Soft thumps from paw pads hitting the sand came up behind Ore. The King knew who it was quickly, It was Pounce. The primal turned around to look at the sub-male who was now an adult and had a long lock of mane swept over his right eye with flowers weaved into it. To his surprise instead of the normal neatly kept mane and flowers, Pounce was bleeding and his flowers barely holding onto his mane.

"What in the world happened to you!" Ore cried out, standing up quickly to start to lick the younger lion's wound's.

"D-Dogs So... So m-many dogs" He panted, sitting down as he did.

"Dogs? How far out?"

"Past the fallen tree, They might b-be closer now"

Ore nodded and walked into the small oasis the pride lived in, looking around for the hunter lioness's with a agitated flick of his tail, only the brood mothers and cubs seemed to be around. "Where are all the lioness?"

"They went hunting a while before I left the must be miles away from here by now"

"Gah....Can you still fight then?"

The brown spotted sub-male nodded and walked to Ore's side despite the large dripping wound on his stomach. Giving a quick dip of the head, Ore flicked his tail and the two sprinted off to the edge of the territory.

The running could have been tiring especially for the already wounded young lion and the older king but the pride to defend their pride filled their chests gifting a energy boost that almost seemed like it was from the gods.
As Pounce slowed down the two picked up the sent of the dog pack and could slow down to a steady walking pace as they began to follow the trail.

"I'm glad your still able to fight, You should be careful not to let that wound get reopened" Ore said sternly to the sub-male, who now had caked dry blood clinging to his belly fur.

" Mh... I'll be careful. It should be a easy fight anyways, I got a few pretty good" He smirked with a flex of his claws.

"Well it looks like those dogs got you good too" The older kings shoulders dropped with a slight chuckle.

" Eh, I'll be find once I get this blood washed off"

" If you say so, Maybe one of the Brood Mother knows how to take care of the wounds? They do look after the cubs all day" Ore was going to say more but he quickly silenced himself as he heard the yapping of a dog pack.

The two lions crouched and began to make their way slowly to the sound. Soon one of the dogs yelped in pain and the crying of a cub echoed on the trees around the males. Ore's eyes widened and he sprang up, leaping to the sound of the cub. He pushed his way into the pack, throwing the dogs out of the way with the threat of his large fangs and stood over the small cub.

Snapping his jaws, Ore let out a bellowing roar sending the dogs leaping back with yelps of surprise. Pounce soon followed behind snarling as he slashed out at the dogs from behind while they where distracted. Two dogs dashed off in a panic while the rest split themselves between the two males, quickly leaping to attack.

Ore looked down at the small cub, it was barely weaned and clinging to his leg with terrified mews. "Shhh shhh shhh, Its alright." He purred in-between slashes and snaps at the dogs.

Dogs clung to Pounces flesh tearing into it as the primal fought to protect the small cub. Letting out a snarl of pain as teeth came down onto his neck but with a quick tug, he was free. The pack writhed like a single mind and reared up as the group slammed down onto the primal's body, tearing into his flesh like they where doing to Pounce at the same time.
Ore roared again this time in pain as he brought his over sized fangs down into any skin he could, his claws swiping wildly into the soft skin. He cut through the group on him until none remained and then quickly bounded over to tear the last few off the younger male.

Grunting he spoke softly "There's a cub...."

Walking back over to the small lion cub, they now saw the extent of the damage. A younger lioness and two other cubs lay'd dead in the dry grass, the only remaining cub bleeding as it whimpered in the grass.

" A male cub" Pounce nodded, holding his head high despite the pain. " We are taking him with us right?"

"Yes, Of course.... Im sure one of the lioness wouldn't mind adding him to her cubs"

Ore walked over slowly, being careful not to get anymore blood on the cub as he picked the small prince up in his jaws. Wincing from the pain of a wound to his cheek before he started to walk back to the prides small oasis, The two males tails flicked almost in unison as they limped away from the bloody area leaving blood trails of their own.

The two lions approtched the small oasis, the small cub was still mewling loudly to Ore's dismay. Stopping at the entrance the two could now see the lioness back from a hunt but instead of food many of them were bleeding and injured. The lioness turned quickly to the mewling, Zebra the main broodmother of the pride quickly ran over. Ore dropped the cub and she scooped the poor thing up, lapping her tounge over his head as she cleaned the blood away.

Pounce stepped up to Ore's side, looking at the lioness's. "What happened?"

"Mass hyena clan near the marsh, we fought most of them off." Snake purred with pride in herself. "What about you two?"

"Dogs" Ore snarled. " It was a massacre for this cubs family"

The group of lioness's eyes widened, many of their tails flicking in anger at the notion of leaving the kitten a orphan . Soon after the anger passed they lowered their heads in respect for the fallen lions, Ore and Pounce following in the motion.

"How many?" Zebra asked, looking up at Ore from where she had lay'd down to lick the cub.

" Three that we could see" Pounce muttered as he sat down and began to lick at his wounds.

"We should try and get their bodies for a burial, if not for them, for her remaining cub. We are keeping him right?"

Ore nodded. "Yes, Of course Zebra. I wouldn't leave the cub. You can name him if you wish"

Zebra smiled gently, grabbing the cub by the scruff as she stood to return to Evenhide cave. " I shall name him Noctis, after the pelt he carries"

Ore nodded padding off to check on the other lioness's.
"Did you see any herds or prey on your trip at least?" He asked the lead huntress.

" No..." The manned lioness shook her head. "With the large amount of hyenas and dogs around I believe food might be scarse for a while"

Ore let out a heavy sigh. " Once you are all feeling better try again, we need at least something for food the next few days"

" Of course" She purred as He strutted off and to his small outcropping of a den where he fell asleep rather quickly.

// Cub death, starvation and dead bodies warning//

Ore got up each day, checking in with the huntress about any prey, at first they found few small animals occasionally larger ones like impalas or Buffalo but soon there was nothing left for the pride to eat. The only think that they could find would be hyenas bodies which despite the rancid taste of the meat, the pride ate with little hesitation.

Ore was awoken to the yowling of one of the lioness and got up, sprinting across the small pond to reach Evenhide cave. As he stepped down inside of the cold cavern, Cheetah was bent over two cubs who were small and thin.

She cried out to him. " They wont wake up! I brought them food from the hunt earlier but they didn't get up to get any" The lioness nudged the hyena meat closer to them.

He sighed, sitting down near her to nudge the small cubs. Only one was alive but his breathing was shallow. Pushing the already dead one away, he curled up around the male cub and started to lick his fur to try to warm the cub up.
It didn't take long for the cub to join its sibling much to the sobs of Cheetah.

She leaned onto him sobbing into his fur, the primal could only comfort her. Tears dripping off his chin as he held silent. He rose, nodding to her as he grabbed one of the cubs and the group inside of the cave left to bury the cubs.

Soon after they also had to burry quite a few of the lioness in the pride once even the hyenas got scarse. Ore grew worried from this, he only became king a few months back where was all this misfortune coming from.

Perhaps it was just a tough year.

Weeks past and slowly things got better, the herds returned and the large packs of dogs left the prides territory. It wasnt long until more issues attacked the pride, rumors of a fire spreading lioness were being tossed around and it wasnt uncommon to find charged land when on a patrol or hunt.

It wasnt anything Ore worried about until he saw it, A lioness her eyes glowing bright with fire stalking to the prides waterhole. A inferno of flames blazing behind her, sparking from her paws.

"What in the world..." Ore spat, his two sub-males coming to standing at his side. All three jaws open in shock. Calling out to the rest of the pride, Ore pulled himself into a more presentable posture stepping to greet this flaming lioness.

"Hello"

She paused, opening her mouth to speak as smoke bellowed from it. " You have the courage to greet me..?"

"Yes, You are burning my territory.. I would like to keep my pride safe"

"You are afraid, I can smell it yet you face me... you face me to protect your pride. Yes, Your pride is safe do not worry" The raging fire started to lower, keeping itself near her paws and tail.

" Oh... Would... would you like to stay for a while?"

Thinking the lioness paused, "Yes... I suppose I will.."
