I had seeked help recently in chat for trying to price lions. I was linked to Miakoda's Lion Pricing Guide, which is, as it seems, the most recently up to date guide regarding as such.

https://www.lioden.com/lion.php?id=306019240000

I will be selling the above linked male today to make room for a new sub aging up next rollover. According to the guide, he is worth at least 400 SB at baseline. However the guide also recommends a reduction in price with age, and the suggested reduction would still put him at 250 Silver Beetles.

However, at least one person has claimed he is a "potato" and barely worth 100 silver beetles.

I wanted some insight into this and to ask why he would be less than half of even his discounted price, at least again according to this person, or if they're just trying to mislead me and the guide remains fairly accurate.

I agree that’s he’s barely worth 100sb as he’s a non sex-changeable male with common attributes

He's clean and young, and would make a decent stat rep. I don't think you've overpriced him, 410sb isn't a large amount.

Make sure to advertise that he's a short lineage, clean sub, and people will be more likely to notice him.

Well then we need a new guide to meet with this community's nearly impossible and ever-changing demands. He's 400 according to the most recent one. If he's barely 100 now we need a guide to accurately reflect that and why, not just because the community is finicky if your lion isn't buried under so many markings and decorations you can't actually see it anymore.

@Angela Thank you. I've been getting mixed signals since I started looking at pricing and I'm not sure what to believe anymore. It feels like there's just a bit of a vendetta against lions that aren't buried in 100% opacity markings.

If I didn't already have a stat rep in the works I'd be interested in him myself X)

You really just have to learn how to advertise what you have - which takes a lot of trial and error unfortunately. Guides only really go so far on here.

I mean I'll never have a jackpot lion that makes me a fortune outright because I won't touch anything that doesn't look feasible on a lion or primal. This is something I know and accept.

But I feel like people are getting unrealistic in the values of these lions at this point if they aren't drowning in every color of the rainbow. I don't appreciate being misled in the value of my lions even if a guide isn't 100% accurate in the modern day. It can give me a ballpark estimate.

In all honesty pricing guides for lions generally aren't accurate at all, so they're of very limited use. Especially the older they get, the less relevant they become. They're a nice idea in theory but the market (and changing popularity of lions, markings, etc) just doesn't work like that in a shopping list kind of way where you can add 50SB for x and subtract 100SB for y. It's too complicated and too subjective. I've really never seen a pricing guide I'd recommend using that would be as good as just browsing/searching the TC to get an idea for actual current pricing of similar lions :(

Partly the mixed answers you're getting will be down to people's personal preferences too, and what they look for in lions - for instance, to me personally he's not worth much because his only real value is in his short heritage, and I don't clean breed. Submales don't have much purpose in game beyond heirs, so adult males that aren't king-worthy aren't generally worth anything if they can't be sex-changed. You'd need to market him to clean breeders specifically imo, as a Gen2 heritage replacer, because otherwise he'd be just fodder value.

Well if there's a market I'll tap into it. Even if my lineage hadn't randomly glitched out and deleted all of the data of my first king, I've never had an inbred lion.

If people are willing to pay to avoid inbreeding, I'll gladly provide.
