Eh, here we go again I guess, another Primal suggestion. Amphimachairodus is an extinct Machairodontinae, that lived during the late Miocene in America, Africa & Eurasia. It was closely related to Xenosmilus, Homotherium, and Nimravides. It was about as large as a lion or tiger and is currently divided into five species: • A. giganteus - Kretzoi, 1929 • A. kurteni - Sotnikova, 1992 • A. coloradensis - Anton et al., 2013 • A. alvarezi - Ruiz-Ramoni et al., 2019 • A. hezhengensis - Jiangzuo et al., 2023 A. coloradensis was about 1.2 m (3.9 ft) at the shoulder, A. giganteus had a shoulder height of 1.1 m (3.6 ft), potentially making it one of the largest known felids. However, females were smaller than males, at least for the species A. giganteus. I don't know how much tho, the only thing I can find online is 'There was marked sexual dimorphism in A. giganteus, with males much larger than females.' If I find any reconstructions or skeletals of females I'll add them as soon as I find them. Update: I got my hands on a .pdf of The Big Cats and Their Fossil Relatives by Alan Turner & Mauricio Antón. Sadly it's not a skeletal or a side-view reconstruction. It shows 2 Amphimachairodus in the mating process, but it's not worse than the images we have in the February event, so I guess it's ok to post it here. View at your own risk tho. It didn't had as long fangs as other known sabertooth cats, but Amphimachairodus' teeth were not as delicate as their genetic cousins teeth. The females canines were also slimmer and generally longer than the males. Female Skull Male Skull Amphimachairodus also had a longer tail than other known machairodont genera. I really suggest a video from the Youtuber Sergei Merjeevski, he's talking about the skull and showing a really nice replica. Below is a reconstructions of A. giganteus This primal variation could be called Amphi, but I'm not good with names. Update: If you're googling Amphimachairodus you might also come across the terms Machairodus/Amphimachairodus kabir & Machairodus coloradensis/giganteus etc. Machairodus/Amphimachairodus kabir was classified as Machairodus, then as Amphimachairodus, but this genus is now invalid and got reclassified ínto it's own species named Adeilosmilus in 2022. The genus Machairodus is a wastebasket taxon, and over the years many genera of sabertooth cats have been and are still occasionally lumped into it. And thus, Amphimachairodus has also been lumped into it, before it got reclassified to what it is now. |

I don’t see a reason to not support, especially given the provided research and evidence for it to make sense that it would exist. Fantastic job presenting this potential mutation. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I just don't think it's different enough from the current primal mutations--its very similar to the ferus and I think it would be hard to make an entire new mutation out of it that is distinct enough compared to the others given the artwork and bone structure shown 0 players like this post! Like? |

I'd agree! We do need more primal variations. And the research is amazing! 0 players like this post! Like? |

as someone who loves primals, long magestic tails and prehistory/extinct animals I 100% agree, i think a primal variant from "real life" with a long tail (compared to other primals) would be so amazing to see. ofc as an artist i can understand how long this all would take to implament not even includeing the codeing aspect but with enough time i think it can be done 0 players like this post! While i love the amount of research that went into it, it doesnt actually explain why it should be added, or how its any different to the current primal mutations we have. We have some with longer teeth, and larger, so that's A already met, all were missing is the long tail, which can also be found on primal teeth mutations while they aren't actually primals they assist on that part. Id love an actual argument attached alongside the awesome factual information you have < 3 For now i wont support as i really cant see any difference other than the long tail and not as much floofiness and long,, cheek hair is it called? 0 players like this post!
