Are you absolutely sure they were protected? You don't seem to have any broodmothers at the moment - the cub's mother will not protect them unless she has the broodmother role and the cubs are specifically assigned to her (steps explained on wiki here: link)

Feeding them isn't important because cubs (and adols) cannot die or run away due to low hunger or mood until they age up to adulthood - protection % is the only thing that really matters. Without being assigned to a broodmother, cubs will often lose too much protection % to survive. If they get below 40% there's a chance they can die each rollover. That would be mentioned in your Daily Rollover Summary notification message for the day, and can be checked in your user log at the bottom of your den page too.
