The chat is a great way to talk and everything is pretty good as it is! Messages are highlighted if you are pinged but everything else is just the same. I am suggesting that your own chat messages are shown as a different color. That way on first glance and those who have difficulty pinpointing their own message in the chat will have an indication on which is theirs.
