The easiest answer most of the year is sell event items. Theres always something worth gb there, even if some months are higher/lower demand than others. I reccomend learning values by reading through chatter's Wanted: items. Its more representative of the market because its shows what people are buying and how much theyre willing to spend rather than what people already have and how much they want for it. Once you're more familiar with demand you'll find it much easier to make money through the year.
Additionally, the wiki is your best friend. Knowing a month or two in advance that, for example, you need murex shells, rocks and rainbow stones to craft the murex apps in march would mean you have plenty of time to stock up on ingredients while theyre cheap to craft with or just sell later when prices spike.
Finally, if youre using Feed All Play All, the toys you gather passively through the month and dont use can usually be sold for enough to cover the price of FAPA, making it more sustainable long term than you might initially expect!
