The forest was way bigger than you thought. Your little dwarf legs were getting tired. Too many trees. Why are there so many trees? The forest was a stranger to your environment. Where you came from there were barely any trees. You looked up into the sky, searching for that bright big sun. God where is it? You need to get back to your pride before your king notices you arent with the other hunters. The sun was gone. Thick heavy clouds were covering the sky and you try to squint to see past them.
Plonk.
You flinch back and shake your face. Great. Its raining. You quickly run around, getting frantic. Then you hear it. A loud screech.
Aw hell nah you're not going to deal with whatever that was.
You run to the nearest shelter you could find. A cave. It was a tight fit but that means your size is finally coming in handy!! You get on your stomach and crawl through the tight tunnel. One paw at a time. Just dont think of how your going to get out... or if theres a monster on the other side. You push your claustrophobic thoughts aside and keep pressing forward. Then the tunnel opens up into a larger underground area. The rocky ground was covered in a blanket of moss and long finger like vines stretch across the walls.
You glance around and nod to yourself. No monsters. Or anything living it seems.
A loud growl interupts your thoughts and you spin around quickly. Nothing. Oh.. it was just your stomach. The realization that you havent eaten all day hits you and you begin to feel anxious. Now you're wishing there was something alive.
But there is! You spot it! A small red mushroom! Oh well its better than nothing. Without thinking twice you shove the mushroom into your face. Thats a little better. You're still hungry though. But as you look around for more mushrooms you feel lighter. You start to feel happy. All your worries about getting back to the pride fade away. You dont need them you hear a voice say. They dont deserve you. You may be small but look at how you protected yourself so well against the monster. You smile to yourself. Yeah. You did that. They would have been snatched. You may be stuck here but at least you did it. You sway back and forth, wow this place is colorful! Look at all the rainbows! Everything is moving with you too! The ground is swirling! What fun this little cave is! You're going to stay here forever, you decided.
Oh look! How did you not notice the pool of flowers! You quickly lunge into them, the petals flying everywhere. It was like a soft blanket so you begin to roll around happily. A cute little goat joins you and you find a hyena cub buried in the flowers chewing on them. They were so cute you ended up playing and snuggling with them! This is the life.
But the hunger was still there. So you found a massive red mushroom! It was ten times bigger than you! So you jump at it the best you could and cling to it for life. The mushroom swayed then jerked forward. Whaaa
The world seemed to snap back into place and the colors were gone. The flowers were gone and your fur had an inch thick layer of dirt, moss, and dust on it. You look around and see two, definitely high, animals rolling around the cave squealing. Confused on where the little heaven went you look back at the "mushroom"
But it was gone. In stead a lioness was staring down at you with a smug grin plastered on her face. She was red with white splotches, wait no she was a mushroom.. did she eat the mushroom and become it? Noticing your confusion she grinned more, the kinda grin that went to both ears. You slunk back a little, she was kinda disturbing looking.
The lionesses stepped closer to you and you heard an odd distorted purr echoing around the cave. And just like that she disappeared. Everything did. You felt suddenly really cold and a wet nose poked your face, forcing you to move.
You open your eyes to see your king and your hunting party all gathered around you. Your fur was plastered against your body and you felt yourself shivering. You were completely drenched. Your whole pride was. They all stared at you concerningly and you quickly look around. What happened to the cave? Why are you outside in the rain? Wheres the mushroom lady?

A few years have passed and I havent seen the mushroom lady since. Or even heard the monster again. Sometimes I try to explain to my pride what happened but they all dont believe me. Im not sure what to do. I just know im never eating another strange mushroom again.
