They have a rare chance of being mutated (the only way to have a heritageless mane mut, og tongue, etc) and can generate with almost any base or marking in the game with a rare chance of a raffle or rosette marking (some people pay a decent amount for a BO marking in a new slot). Male adolescents can be more valuable since they can be sex changed if desired, or used as heritage reps to get G1 kings. As adols they can be mut checked, and certain people will pay a lot for one with an adult mutation like OG teeth.

Id say V'Kai is better; its not guaranteed, but you can get rare and special bases on those groupies, sometimes bases worth 10+ GB, and if you're very lucky, you can even get base like Temporal which can sell for 100+ GB. Mutated groupies sell well, even if mutation on bred lions costs low, a groupie with it will cost more. It takes luck to get, but is still better than just energy or cub training; in my opinion, Id rather take a chance of something cool, than get a little extra energy and a bit extra cub training.
