I came back to Lioden after one of my several month hiatuses as is my normal routine and what I've seen has left me confused and distraught.

Cubs. So many cubs. TOO many cubs. Literal legions of cubs huddled under this godforsaken tree, waiting to be taken away. But for every cub taken, dozens more take its place.

I've been playing Lioden almost since it came out and in all my time playing this game, I do not remember a single moment in this game's history where the giving tree could hold onto cubs for more than an hour. This backlog is unprecedented, and what's more, what people are leaving there, and the low prices people are now charging for high tier marked and mutated lions, are showing something even more insidious.

I've discussed with people in the chat how insane the giving tree currently is. I just received a female adolescent with a squeaky clean heritage and TWO Tier 6 markings. Another player pointed out that they had gotten an adolescent female with a patched mutation and entirely clean heritage.

These are lions that should be worth hundreds, if not thousands of silver beetles. And people are tossing them into the tree like they're some regular two tier one marking cubs from an NCL. Meanwhile those trying to sell similar lions in the Trading Center, those priced for what these mutations or markings should be worth aren't selling, and people are undercutting by as low as a fourth of those prices.

I don't wish to fearmonger but I think the game may finally be at its breaking point. I think we finally, simply, just have too many lions. If we're at the point that people are treeing mutations and some of the most expensive markings in the game, and so few cubs are being taken that we now have a backlog of LITERALLY THOUSANDS, we've surpassed critical mass on lions, meaning their value has tanked to nothing, which means the entire website's economy could follow soon after since the entire economy is based on the breeding, trading, and studding of lions.

Most of the cubs I got from the tree had 3-6 colorful markings, including nice ones like feline elysian. I remember even getting a foldie adol w/ an RMA mark the first time I pulled from the tree, and a adol w/ a gilded mark on the next. I ended up giving the foldie away because I couldn't sell him even when I priced him at 250

Oh gods, it was a nightmare to sell a 6M G2 colorbomb Tobiano mut/stat rep, and I was only able to get rid of him due to training him up to 1000+ and him having a Crested mane just in time for the punk challenge. When I had a similar cub born when I was still trying to get rid of the first one, I just wound up sex changing it and using it as a breeder for the G2 marks. So those are probably the last G2 stat/mut reps I'll ever try to sell for a long, long time

To be fair, I haven't seen a dip in the food market. I sell 100 use food bundles for 1000 SB/1 GB pretty quickly (sometimes within like 1 minute of posting the trade). Probably because I only use actual food in my bundles, and not snacks or small meat

I used to sell 400-500 stat G2 Rifts for 18-20 GB back in, hmm, November? December? Now I can hardly sell 400-500+ stat G2 Dappleds for 5 GB. A lot of it might be the mutation is not as popular, but goddamn.

Good to know it's not just me finding it nigh impossible to sell lions nowadays

I don't frequent the forums/chatroom very much so I'm not really sure of any specific causes (apart from vaguely realizing more new users are coming from Tiktok? and there's a LOT more new users signing up everyday compared to past years) but the last few months I've definitely been noticing that the majority of my lion trades just don't budge. Even cubs with high-quality traits that used to sell easily like popular raffle marks and low-gen mutations, they usually just sit there, maybe get 1 watcher if I'm lucky but actual buyouts or offers are scarce. I'm increasingly just giving up and chasing them if they still haven't sold after 2 weeks, or not even attempting to sell them in the first place because all the effort of bumping/advertising will probably be wasted.

I was wondering if this was just a coincidence due to me playing less than I used to, but judging by this thread it seems to go beyond that, impacting lots of people and having a ripple effect on other areas of the site I hope some solutions are implemented soon.

Hi! I've been here for a while too, though I took a very long (*cough* 7 year) hiatus. When I was more active, I would have a hard time selling commissions, but selling lions was a breeze. Now it's the opposite... I don't know what to do with the uggo cubs I get, so I usually just chase/nature reserve them to avoid stocking up the tree even more than it already is. It's definitely safe to assume that the bubble has long since burst...too many damn lions on here!

Am I the only one who can't imagine how a web-based pet sim with still images somehow got popular on TikTok? The video sharing social media? And popular enough for new users to sign up in droves? It makes me feel old...

As someone who's running a breeding project, I desperately want to sell failed project cubs. Auction/Flatsale thread didnt pan out, and TC even less so. I have too many damn cubs!! I can't sell them, I can't make profit. I'm forced to chase, kill, reserve or abandon them. Some of them are too pretty to be killed/reserved imo, and I cant afford the territory space to let everyone grow up to chase them. I'm at a total loss at what to do.

At this point I've started dropping prices, HOPING that someone would buy them, but I still get nothing.. So I'm forced to reserve them or abandon them, and a lot of these cubs I wont simply abandon because they're multi-BO Cimmerian cubs. The abundance of cubs has killed the market. I can't sell anything! I have no space! I have no MONEY. AAAAUUUUGH

Agreed. I became friends with the seller of my dwarf lioness over the impossibility of getting her twin to sell. Plenty of offers, but none of them remotely close to the lion's expected value. I personally would love a way to offload excess cubs post breeding event for -something-. I've been giving mine away to anybody who shows an interest, because I simply don't have the room for all of them.

Hey I am so sorry, but this issue came back when I started playing again and got back into rhythm. At least 2k-3k of those cubs are mine that I dumped. One I am a mass breeder for stats and mutations, two I shove cubs in the tree that do not match my requirements for markings and stats. As I do not wish to sell cubs that have less than 1k stats and would rather put them there for free. However cubs that do have have a min of 5 marks are just chased and not abandoned into the tree.

If I take a cub for the tree, I raise them, breed, then chase the female if I do not like the stats/look.

I will agree though that the economy is a mess. It is fluctuating like crazy right now. With some of my Unevens selling for 5 and others for 2

Hi!
Yes, I'm just gonna say what I think.

The giving tree is a problem..

There are too many lions at the tree. I just logged on - 503 female cubs, 734 male cubs? (as an example, there are hundreds of cubs at that tree). It's mad. In total, that's like 1237 cubs or somethin'. And not to mention the fact that most are potatoes.

I have to admit, I do tree rosettes and muties for the sake of not having too much space.

I treed a rosette just now. I've been selling her for like 200 and she hasn't even sold. Clean. G3 - everything. She's an NHR - not even an inverted, and I couldn't sell HER. Like I got a primal fangs from the tree, but I'm probably just going to give it away, anyways.

Also, last year, I bought a pie for 50 . Now they're worth like 2-7 .

It took me frickin' AGES to sell 3 dwarves. I ended selling them for 70 , when they should be worth 90. I lost 20 (yeah, fine, it's kinda my fault) but this game is broken

I think revamping a little the Gorilla Enclave so there's an incentive to throw them the potatoes cubs (couple money, nest material, I dunno) and to allow submales to breed were good ideas. I bet a lot of cubs end up at the tree because it cost energy to chase/kill them, so it's easier to abandon, but if we could throw them at the Gorillas, it's rid us of some of the stock on the website and people would be more putting the cubs they really want to *give* in the Tree.
And breedable submales si there's a reason to keep them rather than "well, you're blue, you're out." (Besides when your king is old)
(Also would allow to have a couple projects at once without going entirely through studs)

I'm a new player to Lioden but I don't see how certain lions are supposed to have certain worth regardless of their genes. Maybe it's the Econ major in me but it seems like a supply and demand problem to me. Since each lioness can produce multiple cubs over her lifetime, it seems like the supply of lions would increase overtime and that the price would go down. I don't really see a solution to this except for changing Gorilla Enclave. People are kidding when they say something is wrong with the game, right?

Well, when the supply curve shifts right, that means sellers have to sell more lions at a lower price, which I do see

well the reason different lions are worth more is because of breeding difficulties.

when you breed you arent automatically guaranteed anything, and the game ensures that there are difficulties you will encounter. so bases that aren't applicable and mutations that take items to pass would obviously be worth more.
