Being with a mother is not enough protection; I see you have few lions assigned as Broodmother, and lots of cubs, which means most your cubs are unprotected.

Broodmother, is a role you set in lion options. Then, you choose cubs for her to protect, they are NOT added automatically, you need to do it by hand. Without it, cubs can die. Being nursed with a mother is not enough, she does not protect them; you need to assign a broodmother specifically.

Are you sure you assigned the right cub to be protected? The "Cub" named cubs do not go in same order in the Broodmother dropdown as they do in cave, the Cub could be second cub when checking the cave list but it could be eight cub in Broodmother dropdown. Are you certain you didnt protect another cub by mistake?
