It does not give negative karma, I just tested it. I don't recommend attacking lionesses because that's an expenditure on its own. Probably the easiest way will be to consume Vulture Eggs - each one gives a 20 point karma boost in either direction.

If you're unable to procure enough vulture eggs, another way is to mass-kill lions for bad karma. This might be harder with your territory size, though. To make the best of it, you'd be better to invest in the heartless personality for 1gb so you don't lose energy.

If you're going to be buying vulture eggs anyway, it might be better to save the money upfront with the single GB. But definitely, if you already have enough vulture eggs, just use them.

ETA: Slapping a lioness while you're claiming them gives you negative karma, I think. But still, wasting energy battling like that isn't optimal!

It's also good to be battling! The main source of October currency is from battling. I've already gotten 2 crunchy worms (600+ blood beetles) just from exploring and battling, no extra buffs. The best encounters come out at night, but rabid animals generally give good currency too. Angels give less but they give demon currency too.
