My queen is the result of my own breeding project, and I’ve completed two so far, so I thought I’d give my input!

I personally started with playing around in the wardrobe, experimenting with different markings and other traits. Once I was satisfied with the look I had, I decided to check the availability of the slots of each marking (altering them if the slot was kept private or was nonexistent). Note that I took on a 10BO marked lion, which isn’t a must, and one can make it less tedious to get the desired slots by going with applicator or piety markings!

After that, I started looking for a lion that had the first few traits that I wanted my final project lion to have (which were eyes, skin and a marking with a rarer slot than the rest).
It was difficult, and I just got lucky to find such a lion to king and kickstart my project.
From there, it was all about finding the lionesses that had the remaining traits (sometimes you only find a gal that has just one of the markings and hope it and your project king’s traits passes onto a cub).
I also looked for available studs that had the right traits, if there was no lionesses for sale on TC or even in existence that fit the criteria,

I was impatient and would king the cub that was born with the most of my desired traits without waiting for the cool-down to end, which isn’t something I would recommend unless you have the GB to spend,

After A TON of Ochre Powders and skin&eye saltlicks, I finally had my final project cub born (which I also kinged immediately),

I would say that breeding projects are exhausting and sometimes tortuous (especially if you’re aiming for a BO base, which I wasn’t ambitious enough to try), but also incredibly rewarding!

Also, if you’re going for a specific BO mane type/colour, I’d recommend getting a project king and the lionesses of the same mane shape (like Savage x Savage), because manes are inherited from either parent (so a Tsavo x Savage will result in either Tsavo or Savage maned cubs, not Heavy maned or something of that ilk).
Royal mane shape, on the other hand, can be achieved through breeding either two Royal maned lions, or lions with the manes shapes that are Royal mane factors),

To add onto EbonyShards' response (by the way, lovely queen!!) I'd like to note that mane colors have a 50% chance from passing from either parent - so if you breed a Briar mane to a Noctis mane, the cubs have a 50/50 chance of either mane color showing up. However, mane shapes do have the ability to fail, so a cub born from a Tsavo mane x Savage mane can end up inheriting Crested for example. Here is the wiki section explaining mane shape genetics.

Also as for the examples. I've had two projects so far. One is still in the motion (13 BOs including special base) and it's Villanelle


And the other one (completed) was ✧ Sara ✧ (2BO marks, 1 piety, 2 applicator ones + applicator eyes & base).


I also came up with them by playing with different designs in the wordrobe. The fully (or almost fully) BO projects are the most difficult ones and also most popular. But you can literally have any design YOU want and like. If it's composed of only applicator/oasis markings then you can achieve it by collecting the right apps. Or you can also breed for it if you prefer that way. There is no one path.
