Hello! I think I'll start with how I first got Maggie Mae! Maggie Mae showed up on my front porch skin and bones and full of mange. I took her to the vet, got meds for the mange, and some high protein food for her. Her fur gradually started to grow back and her skin started to look less and less red! When her muzzle fur started to grow in, I noticed that she had a line going around her muzzle, like it had been taped or wired shut. To me it seemed like she was used as bait for dog fighting, which apparently is very common in the town that I moved to last year(where I live now too). That would explain her attitude towards humans. She was incredibly skittish, but not aggressive. It was like she *wanted* to be pet, but was too scared.

The vet wanted to wait until she had gained some weight and was a good bit healthier before getting her spayed. The vet wasn't sure if she would make it through the surgery with how sickly and emaciated she was, so we both agreed to wait. Boy were we both in the wrong! I called myself keeping a close eye on Maggie, but she slipped up and found a male dog...or the male dog found her. Not sure, but she became pregnant before I could get her spayed.

Now by the time that I noticed she was pregnant, it was far too late to spay her. Fast forward a little over 2 months later, now I have 6 adorable puppies in my room with Maggie Mae. Maggie is still incredibly skittish when it comes to physical contact initiated by a human, but she has come so far from when she first showed up! She will come up to me and lick my hand and I have found out that she doesn't like to be touched on top of her head or anywhere else that she cannot see. It scares her a lot and she almost trips over her own feet trying to get away from the touch. We are still working on that, but she let me help her this morning when I was about to go to work. She has been outside because she was nervous being inside and so was I. I didn't know how she would react to my two cats. This morning though, I couldn't leave her outside to give birth, so I got the one puppy she had already had and lured Maggie inside with it. Maggie wasn't too sure what was going on, but she followed me inside and made her little nest on my inside dog's bed. She had 6 puppies within 2 hours. Once I saw that she had calmed down from being in labor, I got the small plastic pool I had outside for critters to get fresh water from, cleaned it really good, lined it with potty pads, towels, and then a soft blanket on top of all that. I gathered the pups and put them in the make shift whelping box and Maggie followed suit. She is now settled in for the night with her puppies all snug in a rug like a bug!

Don't worry though because once the pups are weaned, Maggie is getting spayed! This is her first and last litter! I'll post pictures in a second!
