Fun fact:

A female praying mantis can keep a males sperm for multiple egg lays so that she doesn’t have to mate every time, you can also tell their sex by counting the abdomen plates. females have 8 sections/plates, males have 6. Females are also generally larger than male

Most if not all sharks aren’t aggressive in the way they will randomly attack people. Often most attacks are cause the person did something or the shark went in for a nibble and the person freaked out (I’m autistic for sharks)

Fun Fact!: The artificial banana flavor you and I have come to know is actually based on an extinct banana species/breed! This banana is extinct because Bananas are all essentially clones of one another DNA wise, so if a virus/plague (It was referred to as a Banana Plague) were to break out among one particular breed of bananas the entire breed would be wiped out in nearly one go! So every time you have a Banana Laffy Taffy and you think about how it doesn't quite taste like a banana, just remember you are eating a candy recreation of a very extinct and moderately long gone food!

Fun fact: you know the Variegation on plants that make the look pretty (in my opinion) isn't actually good for the plant. The lack of pigment doesn't allow for photosynthesis to occur which basically stops it being able respire properly, this happens with any colouring besides green hence why in the wild it's hard to find naturally occurring variegation as the plants have evolved to produce more green. This is why plant collectors are both very happy that they get a full Variegated leaf but also annoyed because once there is one leaf the plant will only continue to produce more and more of those leaves which can lead to the entire plant dying

Did you know, Great White sharks always die in captivity because they need to constantly move and hence have no space? Essentially, they'll both drown and suffocate at the same time! Most aquariums don't have the space to house them. I don't remember where I learned this, I think it was my Marine Biology class. ALSO, did you know that sharks have these marble-like things in their eyes? I can't for the life of me remember why and I'm not gonna google it. I had to dissect a shark in said class and the teacher let me look around.

Also, supposedly the Georiga Aquarium is the biggest in the usa? I know for a fact that's at the top of a google page, but I learned that on tik tok of all places. Also speaking of that aquarium, we had three whale sharks there! You can dive with them! The largest was named Alice and she passed away a few years ago. I was lucky enough to see her before that!

On the topic of fish and such, animals in the deep ocean tend to grow significantly larger than their species in higher altitudes of water? I can't remember if it's because of the organisms down there, unknown causes, or because their metabolism slows the bigger they are so they don't need to consume so much.

Another fact is that whale drop in the deep sea are like a buffet for those living down there! All kinds of sea creatures swarm to them. Another interesting/sad fact it that whales just stop coming to the surface at a certain point, by choice. Hence, the whale drops. So sad!

I promise none of these were googled, I just sat here typing away like a yapper. I don't expect all these facts to be counted as a ticket, but I love talking about them nonetheless!

Also, did you know that dolphins give one another names! The names are different signature whistles/squeaks/etc that they use to recognize each other with. Cool, right?

fun fact time ! did you know that calico and tortishell cats are mostly female but can rarely be male ?? this is because color for cats is carried on the x chromosome ! female cats get two x chromosomes which means they can get a chromosome carrying black from one parent , and a chromosome carrying orange from the other ! male cats only get one copy of a given color , hence why they're super rare !!

most torti / calico males are either chimeras or have a genetic abnormality that makes both colors show up !! 99.9% of the time, breeding one of these rare males will only allow them to pass one color - either black or red; as they don't have the same chromosomal make-up as females do . females can pass both red and black - but MOST of the time males can only pass one, whichever one is their primary color DNA wise !! but there was i think ONE tortishell male that was actually able to pass on black AND red !! this is because he was a chimera , and his genitalia was half red biologically and half black biologically !! how fucking cool right ?! :DDD
