hi there!! recently, i've been getting into making quick base concepts for fun. i wanted to share these two (as the title probably reveals) silly bird-themed bases because i really liked how they turned out! these were just for fun, so don't take them too seriously- i thought other players might like to see my ideas! see macaw v2 at the bottom of the thread!
more bases will come soon!!! probably just as i get inspired by images and in-game items! base one. . .lovebird base!i based this off of the image for the lovebird plumage item. although it can be bought in the flirt shop, i thought this item, along with a few other types of feathers, could be crafted to make the applicator for this base during february. i think it'd be cute to include flamingo feathers, kingfisher feathers, and grey crowned crane feathers in the recipe! i thought maybe golden light countershaded special would be a good fit for it so it can be with other green-ish bases.  here it is with magpie thrown on just for fun! i thought the matching bird name was silly.  base two. . .macaw base!this one was just for fun, and surely way too colorful to be added to lioden (ignore hexaplex and decennial). i've always wanted a rainbow base, though, and i think a scarlet macaw themed base would be a cute way to go about it! i think a combination of different feathers and rainbow stones could be used to craft it, maybe during december? not a very macaw-y month, but it feels more lighthearted and fun than the rest of the events :) maybe red medium countershaded special for the genetics?  🏝️ 🌈 again, i'll probably come back later with more bird bases once the inspiration hits me (i'm already thinking of canary, god knows we need another yellow base lol). feel free to tell me what you think- positive or negative! remember that the point is to be colorful like the birds they were inspired by, but i understand if these bases aren't for everyone! i'm not an experienced base maker at all, so i could definitely benefit from some tips too! thanks for looking at my little base thread!!! 🏝️ 🌈 hi!! here's the lineless versions- i forgot them in the original post. oopsie
i appreciate all the kind words and feedback as well as the 85 (11.10 - now over 200! goodness!) supports! thank you so much!!! this is definitely a process for me, ive only made a few bases before and never even posted them before this, so this is all very new to me! these are obviously subject to change, i might have some epiphany or something about the designs later on down the road LOL also i want to mention the fact that macaws are not native to africa- i didn't make a macaw base under the assumption that they are, i simply thought the colors would be nice on a lioden base! however, (personally) i don't think it's a big deal that they're foreign animals, but i understand how it would feel strange for some, and im ok with not supporting for that reason. i'm open to the idea of renaming the base to fit a bird species native to africa, but the ones i've looked into just feel better off as their own base concept and don't exactly match the base i already have. ive had a few thoughts on how to tweak it, though! i thought it would be a fun idea if the fact that they come from another continent was the entire point of the base. we already have an explore encounter relating to the capture and exchange of rare birds, so i think that could be incorporated into how this base is obtained. just an idea, though! thanks for all the feedback and support- it means a lot! if anyone has any thoughts on how to improve the appearance of macaw i would love if some ideas were thrown out too! |

both bases are lovely and you have my support on lovebird, but i don't think macaw would fit in lioden because of what it's been based off of - most lioden bases whose names aren't simply describing their color (eg: onyx, green, gilded) are named after things found in africa and/or named in african languages. while there are some exceptions to the rule, having a base based off of scarlet macaws, a species emblematic of south american rainforests, would be noticeably out of place and feels... strange, i don't know how to describe it. as if the implication was that the amazon rainforest and the many rainforests in africa were interchangeable, you know? though at the end of the day this is just one giant nitpick and you're free to take apart my argument, i just wanted to explain why i pressed the no support button ^^'' 0 players like this post! To be fair, we have a Blue Poinsettia base. Blue poinsettias don’t even exist. Those that do have been dyed or spray painted. Then there’s bases like Ragdoll (a domestic cat first bred in California) and Water Hyacinth (a plant native to South America). Taking that into consideration, having Macaw wouldn’t be strange at all. I think you’re reading too far into it if you think it devalues Africa’s unique ecosystem. 2 players like this post! i appreciate your feedback a lot and ive definitely pondered how it would fit in alongside other lioden bases which, for the most part, are based on animals in africa like you mentioned. however agreeing with what osmanthus mentioned, its most, not all! i specifically had reindeer and ragdoll in mind when creating macaw. lioden is full of unrealistic bases (take all of july for example– the lions with some of those bases come from space.) and i didnt personally think one based off a bird (albeit from another continent) would be too bad. id also like to point out again that there was in no way meant to be an implication that those rainforests are the same, and that i just wanted to make colorful bird-inspired base ideas! 0 players like this post! I really like Lovebird, it'd be nice to have a new Feb base that wasn't pink! I like pink bases as much as the next guy, but much as Cotton Candy is a nice break from all the dusky blues and warm browns of December, a little green would be good to have in the Feb mix. A suggestion for something colorful like macaw but still African-based, since I agree it's nice to stick at least a little bit to the setting for bases when possible: bee-eaters! Some are fairly similar to scarlet macaw in color palette... and then there's the carmine bee-eaters looking like someone combined cinnabar and nun. I'd have said 'that'll never be a LD base' years ago but I'm not sure anything is impossible now. 0 players like this post! Like? |
