I'm kind of down bad for money right now and I'm considering opening commissions (or at least trying lmfao) but from what I have seen over the years people on here tend to opt for gold beetles/items instead of USD/irl currency. Is it worth trying to open slots solely for USD? Idk if this question goes against any rules but are there any other sites you guys would recommend trying to open slots on alongside lioden? For people who do sell commissions and adoptables, do you think adopts do "better"? I've also got no clue where to properly post this topic but I am genuinely curious

typically, a majority of users purchasing art only have access to GB or in-game currency due to them being under 18, or being in a different country and not wanting to pay USD if they're [for example] british.
getting USD comms depends on your style and the quality of your work in all honesty; some will do better, some won't and that's unfortunately the truth.
i would however, still make a thread and advertise it as USD only and see what you get.

I feel like you might have to advertise more for USD commissions (just bumping, really), but I've had some pretty good luck with commissions on LD that are only USD. It's true that I wouldn't recommend LD as my first choice for selling art; there are definitely better places to do so, that I would recommend doing instead of (or doing as well as selling somewhere else) if you're in need of money.

Also on the adoptables vs commissions question, I feel like that highly depends. On LD, I feel like you'd probably have a better chance at selling commissions over adoptables though. This is just my opinion/observation. I might be wrong, and if you'd rather do adoptables, I say go for it. However, my best recommendation would be if you're in need of real cash-- try your luck off-site too!

I've been selling art for around 10 years.

My main platform is Facebook I've had the best sales with USD commissions especially in furry groups since I do specialize in animal art. So, it's just finding those right groups that fit your art.

I've only been selling art on Lioden again for about a week now.
Out of my 6 commissions from Lioden one was USD and 5 were GB so GB is definitely the popular choice on here but there are people who do pay USD. I also make my GB price a little higher to encourage USD.

I personally have done better with commissions rather than adopts.
I'll make adopts occasionally but they are definitely not my main source of USD and they can sit unsold for a while.

There are so many variables that play into getting USD commissions
like art quality turnaround time pricing ect.

I hope this kind of helps. It never hurts to try see how it goes and advertise on multiple platforms.
