You can find leaves and rocks in Explore, but more caves don't make you able to hold more lions - they're really just for organization! You need to expand your territory, either by buying more spaces or by PVPing other players' kings (which I recommend)

See on your den page, near your main lion's image, the "Territory" line? There's a (+) next to the number of territory you currently have. You can click that in order to buy more. Be aware that the price DOES go up with each space purchased, so it gets rather expensive especially for new players.

You can get a maximum of 40 territory without it costing Gold Beetles, and up to the first 20 spaces can be purchased with Silver Beetles. Between 20-40 territory you have to PVP for those spaces. Don't worry - it doesn't steal any territory from the other player :)
