What it says in title. To be clear this is not about the actual drawing aspect, I get that. I'm confused about how exactly one obtains the lineart that needs to be overlaid on the pie/patches coloring.

Because, this is my understanding so far:

- unless it's basic poses, the base file lineart is not transparent. All mutation & age specific files have a cream base as default.
- pie/patches custom decor layer over the lion
- all the pie/patches custom decor I've looked at appear to have the exact lineart of the mutation they're overlaid for - they do not appear traced

So if my understanding is correct, pie/patches CD artists are either: obtaining transparent lineart files from some mysterious source that they overlay onto their pie/patches shapes, OR they are obtaining basefiles pre-colored with the closest colors to pie/patches (again from some mysterious source) and erasing them to form the pie/patch decor.

Either way, where the heck are you people getting this stuff from?? Please help

Yep, you can find the lineart files by searching them in google and downloading it as a PNG. There's also some here: https://www.lioden.com/topic.php?id=304429488721

When it comes to making the piebald patches shapes, you just draw them onto the pose you want in the desired colour and then clip the lineart to the shape.

Which would give you something like this:

Thank you! I did see that thread, though it wasn't helpful since the mutation I'm looking for wasn't in there. However, I was able to find it from looking it up :) I'd tried earlier but I must've been sleep deprived n missed it lmao

No problem! If you're on a computer, you can also right click a lions image and select inspect. Within that there would be all the lineart, skin, base marking files/image adress etc on that lion.
