Hi hi! So I have been playing a bit sporadically for two years. Doing well is, objectively, subjective. You have to have GB to retire your king early or otherwise wait until he turns 15. In general, my tips are as follows and I'll break them up by subject!

Money
1. Hunt. 24/7, as many times a day as you can. Have multiple hunting parties and send them out as many times a day as you can. Then, with the excess, bundle them in groups of 100 and sell them for 1000 OR 1 . This is one of the fastest ways to get SB and GB. You also will almost never run out of food if you do this and don't have a 100+ lion pride. My territory is 43, between cubs and sub males, I have around 65 Lions and I don't run out of food so long as I keep up hunting.
2. Sell your amusement items. If you go through and play with your lions every day, you won't need amusement items very much, if at all. I typically bundle the skulls and other items that can't be used for nesting into bundles of 100 and sell them for 1000 OR 1 on the trading center.
3. Open a branch. You have to pay for it but mine paid itself off so quickly. Generally, what I do, is play the current event storyline and any extra items that are being asked for, after I have completed it for myself, list on your branch. You can check what the current prices are on the branch and list it around the same. Last month I had to have made over 2000 SB on Locust Wings alone.
4. Farm the Events. You can get applicators, breeding items, and all sorts of other valuable items that you can then save and resell on the trading center later. These can also be used for offers on lions you want when you don't have the SB or GB available to outright buy them.
5. Studding. This is a bit more subjective, but list your king for stud. If you can't retire your current king to get a new one, then use applicators on him. If you can get ahold of one that is used for a combo base, you can make MONEY off of them. In general, if you can't replace your king, buy up applicators and use them on him til he has a vibe you like then list him for 100/125 . Even if he isn't a mutation king, he's low gen so you might still get people willing to stud to him. You can raise the price as necessary if you get a ton of studs.
6. NCLS. Get to dreamboat status and then all the NCLs you get will be in heat. You can bundle these up in groups of 3 and sell them for 30 on the TC. People will buy them for breeding projects. If you find a chased gal you don't want, check the prices in the TC but you can generally list those for 100-150 depending on the markings and bases they have since they are G1 and if you have dreamboat status they'll be in heat too.
7. Fodders. All those potato cubs you don't want, put them on the TC for 10-25 . They get bought up to be enclaved and on a rare occasion someone will buy one up for the sake of a breeding project or because they like it.

Breeding
1. Stud out. It's costly, it is annoying sometimes. It can be frustrating finding a king you like and personally I get annoyed with it frequently. However. This is the best way to get cubs with different colorations and bases. You can also try to breed for mutations by using a Pennyroyal on a primal (any variation) stud.
2. Items. Use them if you have them. CRB is probably only going to throw mane mutations which are pretty useless for you. GMO Cows and Lion Meats are more profitable in general but also far more expensive. If you want mutations, those are the three ways you'll get them from breeding. Buffys are good if you're breeding for a specific thing and want to max your chances.
3. Breeding knowledge comes with time. This is one of the things that I am still learning and figuring out, and I've been playing for two years. It's complicated and beyond frustrating sometimes, but it's also one of my favorite aspects of the game.

Acquiring Lions
1. Browse the TC. I have come across gorgeous lions for stupid cheap. I have found muties I loved and could afford and bought them. They are out there, you just have to have the patience to scroll through the TC for them.
2. Auctions. I have gotten multiple mutations and some of my favorite lionesses from bidding on the auctions in chatter. They are wonderful places and I highly encourage doing the auctions, just make sure you don't bid more than you can afford in them.
3. Explore. You can get beautiful chased lions from explore. You can also get NCLs that you can use to breed prettier lions than what they are.
4. Breeding. This one is self explanatory I feel.
5. Giveaways. Browsing these on occasion has found me some gorgeous lions.

If you have other specific questions I can answer them for you! This is just a general info dump but I think that breeding, finding pretty lions/muties, and getting money are the three hard things to grasp onto as a beginner. Good luck!!

Harbringer is a factor for the Plague so it's a good start. I would invest in getting marking applicators and RMAs when you can but you've got a really good start! If you want to add a mutation there's MoDs too!!
