“The Void”


It all felt…empty. No sound, no sights, no senses at all, and yet I felt a feeling of discomfort and panic that I couldn’t begin to place. I had only just fallen asleep, hadn’t I? Suddenly, a glimmer of red, bloody eyes appeared from who-knows-what direction, quickly disappearing.

I shrieked, but there was no sound. I was surrounded by nothing. No trees or ground. My camp, now a distant memory, had all my things in it. What was I supposed to do? I looked around frantically, trying to get some sense of location. But in all directions, everywhere I looked was emptiness. Except for those damned glowing eyes.

Shoot! Something from behind dragged me down into something that felt like it was trying to suffocate me... like inescapable fur... the red eyes appear again...”I CAN’T BREATHE!” Oh wait... the suffocating feeling was releasing... AHH!!! MY EYES!!! From the brilliant light, the red eyes came into view... Huh? The scary red eyes' possessor was quite... small.

Some tiny critter was staring intently back at me in the strange void I was in. He was similar to the size of a cat, but he didn’t quite look like any animal in this world.

“Huh..I guess he looks harmless enough but still, maybe it's better to be on the safe side? Who knows what this creature is capable of,” I thought

I looked at the strange creature more closely, having... what looked like wings, a tail, and looked kind of like a snake with legs?

"Oh, right. You're from the lion world. I'm sorry to say this, but you're dead. I'm a dragonet, and my name is Opal, if you're wondering. Come with me to the dragon world, where you will transform and have a new life."

I stared to float and follow the dragonet or whatever, into a swirling portal that appeared behind me. “I guess that happens a lot here,” I thought.

In a moment, the dark and cold void was transformed into a warm and dry paradise. Hundreds of other lions lazed around. Opal looked at me and grinned. “You’ll have to wait a little while till you’re transformed, but once it’s your time, you’ll know. Till then, relax, make friends, do whatever you please!”

Forgetting about Opal, I look around, noticing a two-headed lion cub walking up to me. How sad that a cub must die so young...
"Hi!" one head of the cub says energetically, jolting you out of your train of thought.
