Request #2, I’d love some Gb! Fun fact: one of the most endangered ecosystems in North America is one that most people have never heard of- the canebrake. A bamboo forest! Yes, the southeast US was once covered in massive swathes of impenetrable bamboo forest. They were knocked down and plowed for farming. There is nothing left aside from the occasional bamboo thicket. It’s thought the eradication of this biome is a major factor in the extinction of the Carolina parakeet, which nested in the bamboo. There are 4 species of bamboo native to the US, Arundinaria appalachiana, gigantea, tecta, & alabamensis. The last one, whose common name is Tallapoosa Cane, was just discovered in 2023! 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hi! This is request number 3 I would love some GB or the jag. fun fact: koalas have fingerprints that are strikingly similar to humans’! Because of this, people have said that there have been cases in Australia in which koala fingerprints were mistaken for human prints, but these claims are mostly unfounded and have no real evidence to back them up. Still, though, under a microscope the ridges of a koala finger and a human finger are incredibly similar. A difference in the dermal ridges of koalas and humans, though, is that humans have these dermal ridges all along our palms and full fingers. Koalas only have dermal ridges on certain areas of their palms and the tips of their fingers, the places where they need the extra gripping power the most! 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hi! This is request number 2 I would love Bitch or some GB :D. While you may know about the radioactive "elephant's foot" at the site of the Chernobyl disaster, did you know about fungus, named Cryptococcus neoformans, that grows around it? Instead of using chlorophyll or photosynthesis to create energy, the fungus uses melanin (Yes, the same stuff that's in our skin!) to feed on ionizing radiation, which it turns it into energy through radiosynthesis. In essence, it's a super tanned moss that eats radiation strong enough to kill you. Apparently the level of radiation it feeds on is enough to give a human a lethal dose in 3 minutes! Similar fungi have been found on the hulls of low-orbiting space crafts, meanimg it can survive the vacuum of space. Recent research was conducted with experiments to see if it could be used as a shield to protect against cosmic and solar radiation! Y-know, since it eats the stuff for breakfast. Apparently they had promising results! Chernobyl has always been something I found fascinating, and everything you look into just adds to the fascination! 1 player likes this post! Like? |
