So I was thinking today.

What if we could find skulls on carcasses that have been eaten leaving only a skeleton?

This would work by using all the uses of a carcass to get a skeleton of that animal. Then you would have an extra button on the skeleton (much like the make rawhide button on the event animals). This would be not a event though. It would be like that all the time and it would only have one use for that purpose.

The button would say 'Harvest Bones'

Then you click it, it would do 1 of 2 things. First, based on how many uses you had to turn the carcass into a skeleton is the percentage on how you would turn that skeleton into a skull or 'harvest' it.

For example: You fed your pride a carcass that had 3 uses (based on full uses regularly not half eaten things with 3 remaining.)

After the 3 uses are spent a skeleton would appear in your hoard of that animal. It would have a 0%-30% chance of giving a skull of that animal. So it would be a random chance below 30% on getting a skull. (Ex: each carcass would have a different percentage that you use same or not. 3 uses would always yield you less than 30% but it would be rolling a random percentage each 3 use skeleton: 18%, 27%, 11%, 7%.... etc)

Secondly it would have the a random chance out of 0%-30% to give you a rib bone, or simply give you nothing.

Alerts: *green* "You just picked out a(n) Otter Skull from the skeleton! It is stashed away in your hoard!"

*green* "You broke the skull when trying to remove it. Oh well, you take a Rib Bone instead!"

*red* "You tried to get a skull from this skeleton and broke all the bones including the skull!"

Answered Questions:

Say something has 10 uses wouldn't it be 100% all the time?

No, its anywhere between 0%-100% as 100% is just the highest it can go.

Wouldn't it take time to make all those skeleton/skull pictures of all carcasses?

Its only if Lioden chooses to. They can use generic skeleton pictures and just name it 'Carcass Skeleton' and use the skulls we already have. All skeletons that would also have a previous uses somewhere in the title for generic skeletons ( Carcass Skeleton - Previous Uses: 3 ) or have it in the description for animals that have their own skeletons. This is just so you know which is which.

I have a 1 use carcass so that's as high as 10% for a chance at something. That would be very hard to do! What would make it better?

A GB item from the oasis! It would be called 'Skull Potion' or 'Skull Enchantment.' It would cost around 2 GB. When you use it, it gives you a drop down list of the skeletons you have. You pick one and hit use. Bam! You instantly get a skull as its a full 100% chance. As an added bonus you have a chance of getting a random skull decor! :) That potion is that powerful!

Hmmm.... Would that decrease the value of skulls?

Not really, skulls can be used for toys for one thing. If your lions are all moody and you have already interacted with them today it would sure help them not to run away. They can also be used to check fertility for all you mutation breeders out there. :) Lastly, if a crafting thing was ever put into Lioden, they would probably use types of skulls and feathers.

6/30 EDIT: Can you sell skeletons?

Yes, you are free to put them up for trade or in your branch. Though if you sell them to the monkey they would be only 1 SB. 7/11 EDIT: (It was 0 SB, but now changed to 1 SB due to recent Lioden changes.)

You can still get the random skulls from explore. I've noticed that they would be considered rare in this case since an otter carcass has 1 use. So what I found that mostly all 1 uses are already found in explore.

So if the bone is destroyed, they would still have the marrow to eat.

If they did make carcass-specific skeletons, they might also be used as cub-only amusement items (the biggest skeletons, of course). Letting the cubs play in it would either turn it into a Pile of Bones or destroy it. I'm thinking things like elephants and hippos that I could imagine my cats having a ball using like a jungle gym. Perhaps a chance to get a skeleton form large animals, with the default being a pile?"

I had a similar idea. I was thinking that in order to get bones you would have to bury the carcass for the amount of days the carcass has uses-wise. Then when you unbury it, it would become bones.

I really like yours as well. :)

You know how your lion finds carcasses to scavenge on in explore? Maybe, if your lion has 0% hunger when he finds the leopard's kill, he could have the option to try to get a bone or two out of it instead of it going to waste :) Great idea, by the way :D

This is great! :D Theres also lots of details that were put in, so it seems like nothing was left out. I support this!

So would it be a small bone pile (birds, otters, rats), bone pile (gazelle, calfs, hogs), and then large bone pile (elephant, giraffe, hippo)? Or another idea is a very rare deformed bone from a sick animal that could be used for trading. *shrugs* Just spouting ideas at this point. Like taking the claws or hooves of animals to wear on your toes :] (or make a necklace)
