I thought that it would be a good idea to incorporate notifications in the threads.

Much like the 'News Post' notifications, and other notifications that don't go into your inbox, why not have a red bar on the page that informs you of someone posting in a thread you started? I know that most people want to do other things while they wait for responses from people in Chatter on their forums and would rather not spend all their time refreshing the page in case someone responds.

Something akin to '(User name here) posted in (thread name here)' will pop up as that red notification bar on the top of the screen. The link to your thread is right there and you can go to it right then or choose to ignore it. The red bar will disappear when you exit the page, or it can have a little X so the bar can be exited out of when you choose. Same thing could happen if someone mentioned your name (uses the @username) in another thread. It would pop up as '(User name) mentioned you in (thread name)' again links are there and this can also be ignored.

Now I know some of you won't want the notifications, which is why I am also suggesting there be an option to turn off the thread notifications located in the thread itself, making it so you don't get notifications for that certain thread. If you do not want the notifications at all there can be a button on your profile as well, turning off notifications all together.

Other Suggestions for Notifications:

Notification restrictions: New notifications for the same thread will be restricted to the last five people who posted after your last post. To reduce red bar clutter the usernames could be condensed to the same bar for the same thread. Something to the effect of '(Username, Username, Username, Username and Username) posted in (Thread name)' could show up instead of one red notification bar for every one person who posted.

Priority Threads: Much like the ability to stop the notifications of certain threads, there should also be a button to prioritize notifications from a thread. This could possibly tie into the bookmarking system, if not then maybe have it as a separate list that can be edited.

Quick Links: Once you get a notification from your thread, you are linked directly to your thread. Why not take that a step further and have that link go straight to the page where the reply is? No more shuffling through tens of hundreds of pages to find the reply you are looking for. Example; Someone has mentioned you in a thread you posted in. Instead of having to shuffle through pages to find that post, you just click on the thread link and BAM you right there on the page. All you have to do now is just scroll down to easily find the comment.

Subscribe:
Upon posting a new thread or posting in someone else's thread users are automatically subscribed to that thread. The next time someone posts in that thread a notification will pop up. Unsubscribing will be the same as stated above, there will be an option directly in the forum for one to click on if they no longer want to receive notifications in that thread.

Oh okay. That's already in the suggestion though.

At the bottom it says 'Now I know some of you won't want the notifications, which is why I am also suggesting there be an option to turn off the thread notifications located either in the thread itself, or on your profile if you don't want any notifications at all.'

Meaning I am thinking that there can already be a button on the inside of the thread so you can basally unsubscribe to the thread if you want. However I can add to that and make it clearer.

EDIT!
I edited that statement to make what I was trying to get across clearer.

I support this, and would take it one step further by allowing a user to manually subscribe to any thread they want.

Why not make things simpler 'a thread you have started has unread responses'

I would even love to see an ability to subscribe to threads- with a similar message.

An ability to be pinged by is number or something would be cool to- I've missed responses so often because I lose threads.

I will definitely keep your suggestions noted, however It might just be me but I like seeing who posts in my threads. That way I can choose whether or not I want to ignore it based on who replied. Okay that sounded mean, but I think we all have a few people that we don't feel the need to talk to right away. Ha ha

I might need to make this clearer, but while writing this I was trying to hint at the 'subscribing' part of all of this being tied to responding to the thread. Once you post your own thread, or post in a thread, you are instantly subscribed, then something will come up the next time you go into that thread asking if you want to unsubscribe.

Also the pinging suggestion I feel is already covered by the Priority Threads suggestion at the bottom of my post. However, if I need to add anything I will.

This would be awesome I would add threads you have posted in as well for notifications

I hate it when your trying to care for lions and bid in an auction at the same time x.x you lose the links in a mass of posts you have commented in and end up loseing the auction because you can't find it

This would also solve the problem of players having to pm bidders who have been outbid I can see how that would be tedious
