Updates!

Cub Mortality:
About a year ago we made this poll:

b3thqz.jpg

Fertility was introduced and you guys had a long time since then to get used to the thought of Cub Mortality coming. We took the time to flesh out the mechanics and make it as fun as possible for active, attentive players, and scary enough for those who tend to neglect their lions.

We wanted to give that feature a bit of the natural, wildlife feeling. Lioden is a Lion sim-RPG, not a breeding pet site, and we know you guys wanted some realism. Lion cubs in Africa tend to die or get injured. A lot. This can be either scary or fun, depending on how you view the outcomes, however we wanted to make sure this will give players enough of a safety feeling, if they pay enough attention. Just like in any game, you need to tend to your animals in order for them to be happy.

Cubs won't die randomly. There will be always a way to have your most prized cubs protected ALL the time, and fully.

Broodmothers

Broodmother is a lioness designed to be a nanny to chosen cubs. This means she will not be able to be traded, transferred or go hunting, and will be able to protect up to a total of 5 (6 if Nurturing personality) cubs. When a broodmother protects a cub, it means that that cub has a 100% chance of survival, thanks to the lioness' watchful eye. Every day she protects these cubs she will gain EXP and lose a bit more mood, so you better pay enough attention to your babysitter! Broodmothers CAN breed. They can be nesting.
- You can have 1 Broodmother per 10 territory, rounded up. Meaning, if you have 13 territory, you can have 2 Broodmothers.
- You can attach or detach cubs to protect from her page - you can do it once a day only, to prevent endless boosts for both cubs and the broodmother.
- The moment cub is attached it gets 100% on Survival Bar. It will also get a cooldown and cannot be removed until the next rollover.
- The moment cub is detached, its bar drops to 60-70%. It will get a cooldown and will not be able to be protected again until the next rollover.
- Anything that removes Broodmother from her function such as running, death or freezing, it will set her protected cubs at 70% and they no longer will be protected.
- Mutations such as Blind and Eyeless do not stop a lioness from being a Broodmother.
- Removing Broodmother from her function will set her on a cooldown and she won't be able to become one until next rollover. You can only remove that function if she currently is not protecting any cubs.

Cub Survival bar
The bar is right below Lion Stats and all cubs are born with 100%. If cub is not protected by Broodmother, it will drop daily by random, but not unpredictable amounts (5-20%). Below a certain level, you might get random and fun RPG messages upon rollover that this cub has done something silly to injure itself, wandered off and alike. This will give you an idea that maybe it's time to protect your cub. Your risk if you choose to ignore it.
What boosts the bar daily?
- Interacting/Using Toys/Play All tool.

Survival Bar

brood.png - Means lioness is a Broodmother.
unprotected.png - Means cub is unprotected, but above 40% threat.
danger.png - Means cub is under 40% and at risk of dying in a wildlife accident.
Cub without any icons is fully safe.

The deaths
This is important: Your cubs will NOT die randomly. They are at a risk when their bar is below 40% and it keeps rising if the bar keeps dropping. Cubs will generate a message upon rollover if the bar dropped enough to cause a lethal situation. A random RPG message will be generated and you will learn how your cub died. It will not be stored in your dynasty.

hornbill.png
This item called "Hornbill Majordomo" worth 200 SB in Monkey Shop will boost your chosen cub's Survival Bar to 100%.

All cubs start today at 100% survival. You do not have to worry today or even tomorrow yet. Just take time and give it a try, click around, to see how it works.

Cubs that reach 1 year no longer need protection and become adols without the Survival Bar, and your Broodmother frees her slot. We will focus on adols being useful in near future ;)

Cubs in trades
Their survival bar will go down normally every rollover - they won't die in a trade, but if the bar is low and cub is traded, the buyer might risk a lot if they don't raise it in time before rollover.

So the description for broodmother says, "she will not be able to be traded, transferred or hunted." Does this mean she cannot go hunting? The wording is weird.

Xy: that's what happens when you rush type xD I will fix that typo

Am I the only one not happy with this update? I'm sorry I can't be on every single day and have the time to care for every cub and lioness for hours on end. That's what it takes to take care of any pride above ten. Now I have to worry about my valuable cubs dying every day too on top of feeding, moods, nesting materials, and space? The cub economy will not be affected by cub mortality. If anything, people will rush to sell their unprotected cubs and flood the market even more, dropping prices further.
To add salt to the wound, it's 200 SB PER CUB to buy something to boost their survival rates. If you have more than five cubs---which most people do---it would be a fortune to protect them!
Sure, people will say: "If you just pair them with a babysitter you will be fine~" Except that the pairing process is too deadset. I like to hunt and level up all my lionesses, so now I have to switch them once a day to train them because one has to be on cub duty?
What's next? I have to click on a nursing lioness to nurse her cub every day? Maybe I'm the only one overwhelmed, but this game is getting too time-consuming. Don't give me the "but we're making it realistic" spiel. If you wanted true realism, you would have other lions allowed to come in and kill your cubs and steal your lionesses. If you wanted true realism, you would die from wounds or infections. Disease would spread throughout your pride. A wild lion would not be able to cure his own rabies. Onyx lions would not exist nor Prune, Ebony, Albino, ect. Most eye colors outside amber and brown would not exist. No spots or stripes. Also, a lioness babysitter would not protect the cub from illness. Another lion could still come in and kill it and take the babysitter. She's no match for a lion by herself. There would be a thirst meter all year round. There would not be unlimited territory for each lion to have all he wants. Sub-males would be chased off always. Lions would never "trade" with each other's pride. And lions would not care for beetles as currency.
All I see is another daily aggravation. Beat on my opinion if you wish, but I will not conform and be happy about this.

Xy:
1 - you do not have to be doing this every day. Normal playing and interaction is boosting the bar just like you'd do hunger and mood.
2 - Broodmother protects cubs 100% ALL THE TIME. You just assign and boom, off your head.
3 - You're assuming a bit too much with this imagination but I do have to remind this is a simulation RPG not a breeding pet site :)

I'm sure this has been asked, but I just want to be sure- does having something happen to your cubs by leaving them unprotected damage your karma in anyway? Both of my King's are good, and I don't want to see their karma taking a hit from this.

Also, is the "protection level" like that of a lion's mood, where it only changes after you've had your daily rollover?

Xy: Karma has nothing to do with this! And yes it drops with rollover, like mood and hunger.

I'm not quite sure what to think of this, but I'm definitely going to give it a shot before I complain about it. ^^

I love the new mortality! It's such a neat way to give more lionesses a use :D
Just a question, could I remove a lioness from being a broodmother? And if yes, can I trade her afterwards?
Another question, will cubs absolutely run away at a certain point without a broodmother?

Btw, the new SL is absolutely beautiful! Whoever designed her deserves a raise xD

Xy: Yes, about broodmothers! Cubs - no, if you take care of them! Just daily playing/care, and they will be fine!

Lemma get this staright...

you wanted realism (don't even get me started on that load of crap... OR the leopard thing.)

then you made a bird for 200SB

to protect the cubs

REAL
YEP
GREAT
GOOD

I wish there was a way to turn this shit off...

I do not like this at all

AT ALL

That sounds even worse than what I thought!

gawsh this game is getting hard for newbies.

As someone said

a kick in the teeth

I hope exhibited-2 doesn't turn out liek this

if it comes out :(
