I just met someone who got scammed through the new Goodie Bag feature. Someone was offering multiple bags, promising one of them had a certain item, but it turned out that the item did not exist in any of the bags (all of the bags were together in one trade, by the way). I've seen this happening to other people as well. I understand this is a thing of chance, but it's still incredibly rude to promise something and not hold up that promise.

We (Imperial Disease and I) that a new rule regarding the Goodie Bags would be helpful to reduce scamming. You should NOT be able to advertise an item that you did not put in a bag.

If you have any added suggestions or concerns, feel free to post! c:

I noticed this too, and aparently if the person who gets the prize doesnt tell you...you never know if its been bought or not, and itd be very easy for people to put 10 bags of junk and just SAY one might be worth it. But be scamming.

I feel like these goodies bags are just an open way to scamming anyway....
People may still pretend the item is in one bag, and unless you buy all of the bags, you will never know.

it's a good idea, but pretty much impossible to monitor because of the huge ammount of users and bags on the site :/

I agree. Personally, I don't think the goodie bag thing was a great idea :/ Sooner or later, I think people will stop buying them in fear of a scam tbh.

Personally I'm not keen on the goodie bags and wouldn't buy them because I can't see the point in spending money on something that isn't a sure thing, but they're effectively just a raffle like all the other raffles run on the site already. The only difference really is that the 'winner' isn't necessarily public knowledge.

But your suggestion that once the bag with the valuable item advertised has sold all others should be removed from sale, doesn't seem at all fair to the seller to me. First off, how are they going to know that that bag was sold? The whole point is that once they're made it's impossible to see what's in a goodie bag, so if they have 10, or 100 or whatever identical, how would they know which was the bag? Secondly, it wouldn't be false advertising unless they swear the item hasn't gone yet, because in the number of bags originally advertised there was the item they originally mentioned. The fact that it's gone is irrelevant to the way games of chance like that work, imho.

I think goodie bags are great for giving little random gifts and doing fun but 'secret' free handouts - to newbies, or friends, or clan members, etc etc. But as a raffle/lottery type feature it's only going to work if people realise it's a game of chance rather than a cheap way to buy a cool item. 9 times out of 10 the person selling the goodie bags (honest or not) isn't going to do it if they aren't making a profit. That's how lotteries/raffles work, lol.

I like the idea of ensuring that one of the bags has a promised item, though I don't think you should have to take down all your bags when that item is bought. That's the point of a chance bag after all, and you should be able to sell all of your bags that were involved with that 'chance/risk' event. After all, if your putting a lion balls in a bag and selling x number of bags and selling them for 2 GB each, and the very first person to buy gets the balls, you lose money. THe point is to gain money/break even ect. Otherwise those that do that can't afford to do it anymore, and people who potentially couldn't afford the 50GB item no longer have the chance of getting it at a reduced price.

I have noticed the same thing. Goodie bags seemed fun, but have become nothing but a scam within a day! It's a good idea. Support. I really hate goodie bags, though. But, if you promise one bag has an item, you have to provide that item.

I voted no support because how would the boards know if the bag contains the item advertised? To help expand on this, I think goodie bags should have their own section of the site, just like clan raffles do. People can easily advertise that a goodie bag contains an item, only for all of them to be filled with junk. Maybe the feature can somehow read what's inside the bags and have in bold letters that one may contain a valuable item with the possible items listed. Once that item is gone, the message no longer appears. The coding would be difficult but, it helps as a way to be sure that at least one of the bags does contain the item that was promised.

@Dinocanid I think that's a great idea. I'm not a big fan of the Goodie bags. They can be a good way to send a bunch of items through a transfer, but it is too easy to scam someone by saying that there are Mutation items in the bag, only to find feathers and 1-use items. It would certainly be a good idea to have the bag say what is inside. Like you said, it may be difficult to code since there are so many items in Lioden, but it would reduce scamming by quite a bit.

Agreed with Dinocanid. I feel that there should be a way to see what is inside the bag or some type of notification (like when you hover over items and it gives a description of what that item is/does).

I was actually quite surprised that when they made goodiebags they hadn't already included this feature in it.

Edit:

I know they were supposed to be something of a surprise to be a fun activity for players but its almost the perfect tool for scams :c

I agree with this new rule, I mean I do sell Goodie Bags but I ensure there are 5 items in each bag and the worst one has Feathers, SKulls, and Lion Feet. I just bought one, and I only got one Lion Foot. Now I feel incredibly dumb for taking that small risk. Especially coming from someone who doesn't buy GB and instead has to 'work' for it.

you must remove all remaining bags once someone buys the bag with the item, as the bag with the item no longer exists (as long as you're online, of course).

You do realize there's no way to tell, right?
If I make 15 goodie bags, one has a lion meat, I don't even know which one it's in.
You can't name them differently, then people know.

Also, if they advertise that the bag has an item, or if you buy the whole set and there is no item, report it.
That IS against the rules.

Also, seeing into the bag makes the whole thing pointless. Goodie bags were made to combat the threads, they're supposed to be surprised.

Take caution with buying them, buy only from people you trust. And if you get a dud bag, don't blame the seller if they also have good bags.

After all, if your putting a lion balls in a bag and selling x number of bags and selling them for 2 GB each, and the very first person to buy gets the balls, you lose money. THe point is to gain money/break even ect.
Agreed with Reno here.

Again, if you are being scammed, I cannot stress enough, REPORT IT. Goodie bags are not immune to scamming! People cannot make guarantees that they cannot keep! Admins should be implementing more extensive user log reports for them to make it even easier for moderators to take care of it.

@Torquil
What I do is I name each Goodie Bag with a number and I am the only one that knows that number which contains the BIG prize

Yea but then that would take away from some game aspects and again would make people who possible spend a lot to fund/create the chance of actually winning something important losing out. Like me, I have a bunch on my branch. It's admitted, that out of the 8 of them, 7 are filled with not so good items, 1 has a lion meat, all bags are 2GB. It's a game of chance. If it's informed that 1 bag has one high value item or something, and then someone buys that bag say on the 3rd purchase, your losing money, and then I wouldn't be able to hold it again. Yes, I earn a little bit more then what actual item is worth, but it gives me the ability to do it again, or possibly add more items to the bags in the future. Gives someone a chance that doesn't have 12GB for a lion meat to possibly get one for 2. Just like a raffle, it's a game of chance. If the information disappears 3 bags in because someone ended up with the lion meat, I lose money, and thus can't buy more items to do it for people again.

Also agree with Torquil.

Em - Still, why should we take down the remainder of the bags if the big prize is gone?
For example, yesterday I did a lion meat grab bag thing.
If the very first bag bought contained it, suddenly I have to take down all the prizes and lose a profit.

The outcome is clear, you buy accepting the risk it might be gone.
I don't think it's on the buyer, rather people need to hold themselves accountable for their gambling. :s

Yes, people are going to make a profit.
Selling 15 goodie bags containing X item is no different from a raffle with 15 slots for X item.
The prior is just more fun.
