The ARK

You awake, naked, on the shore of a strange beach, with a diamond-shaped metal implant. Upon closer inspection, it releases a holographic UI to manage your inventory and biological stats like health, energy, hunger, and hydration.

You have no idea how you got here, but that isn't the strangest thing about the island. Just looking at the beach you landed on you can see one thing that is out of place: dinosaurs. They seem just as lost as you, noticing the large reptiles living side by side with the animals that filled their throne: large mammals.

Info!

- Rp Thread!
- Chat thread
- HEAVILY BASED ON ARK: Survival Evolved
(if you haven't played it, you can pick up whats going on fairly quickly)
- Your character can be from any timeperiod. The dinos here have larger gaps between them than human history, so why not?
- You can tame most of the creatures here! The exceptions being invertebrates like trilobites or nautiluses.
- Local fauna and growable plants and berries
- LD's rules apply!
- You can form tribes of people! RP-wise, there is a limit to how many dinosaurs you can manage by yourself, having more people means more hands for more dinos.
- ARK's main point of frustration is that danger comes out suddenly and usually with no warning, decimating everything within a few minutes.

I'm interested in joining if you're still accepting new characters. I'll most likely play a creature * or pair of creatures it depends *.

I'm assuming that the Broodmother, Dodorex, Dragon and Megapithecus are not playable creatures? ( Can't blame me for asking!)

ARK's always gonna be accepting o:

Yeah, those animals are pretty much OP /and/ are bosses. Therefore I'll probably give the role of one of them when a local plot kicks in about them and they will then be subject to popping up every once in a while. I intended this rp to mostly be with human characters, as animals make things pretty hard to control and interact by themselves.

I figured I'd at least ask.

I'll create a human to go along with my creature/s, is there a limit to "large" dinos? (basically anything that doesn't fit though a dinogate.) I'm also assuming aquatic life would make for pretty boring characters.

Sorry I'm asking so many questions I really just want to get a feel for expectations before I start work on characters.

Yeah questions are good !

I'd say one per single person is good enough, if you're settled and /or have people in a tribe, you probably can feasibly take care of more, since someone will be dedicated to that. It's also a trust factor because I don't want everyone to run around with packs of gigas/rexes, lol. When that starts happening, I'll prolly pull into Mega or Lysix to cull the ranks. Yeah, sadly I want people to come into this rp with the fact that their dinos are NOT permanent. I was thinking of a roll system to determine if one dies, especially for large fights, haha.

Aquatic life can be interesting, especially when people want more modern tech. Dunkies are excellent at getting water, sarcs are said to be good protectors for waterside villages, etc. It all depends on where people are going, etc.

My currect plan, this might change if I find a tribe before I officially make sheets, is to have a Bronto, an Argi and a Dodo... I've fit both of those in a bronto-back base before it was cramp but do-able...

[Edit] I like the idea of adding in a roll system for damage or possible death. I'd like to flesh it out some more if you want to pm me.

My question is how to handle damage/death of the humans? It'd be weird if we just avoided it all together, as they would be the weakest of the pack/pod and the most likely target in a wild dino attack.

If a human's taken out does a new one just pop into the tribe to replace them, or do they start in the wild unaffiliated... over all it'd just be weird if I were playing a human in one tribe but dinos in another...

Name: Anasalea Kaeris
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Appearance: Kaeris stands at about 5'9", and is of a lean, "swimmer's" build. Her blond hair is cut rather short and haphazardly, and is pinned out of her face using googles crafted from crystals found up in the mountains and a malleable metal she found in the rocks on the beach. Her skin has darkened from her time on the island, from it's original ghostly pale, to a deep tan. It shows her scars from initial run-ins with the Islands inhabitants, and she doesn't appear to have anything fresher then a couple months old.
Personality: She is the embodiment of the proverb "Where there's a will, there's a way.". She's also incredibly stubborn, and has moments where she's not the most patient of people.
New Survivor?: No, She's seen the coming of Raptor-Claws at least twice on the Ark.
Brief History (before and after coming to island, if applicable): Before the Ark, Kaeris was a carpenter and a contractor. Once on the Ark, she awoke on the Northern Shores, her focus shifted to surviving, she had to learn quickly that "Narcoberries" would put to sleep and "Stimberries" would hype you up, and dry you out.

She figured out that many creatures on the island could be tamed, and her first experience doing so was with Thunder, a red-feathered Dodo. It took her a while to figure out how to knock out the fragile flightless bird without accidentally killing him, as she had with many others before him.

After Thunder came Lightning, her Terror Bird. When she tamed Lightning she'd just figured out how to use the juice of a narco berry on the tip an arrow to help calm down the aggressive bird.

When other survivors told her in passing one couldn't single-handedly tame a Bronto, she gathered everything she needed and stalked the cliffs above the Hidden Valley and simply waited. She knew was a common sight for Brontos to slip down into the crater and separate themselves from the herd. When Flower did just that she was swift to get to work subduing and conditioning the large creature to accept her.
Tamed Dinos: Thunder - Dodo
Lighting- Terror Bird
Flower- Bronto
Other: I'm willing to join someone and form a tribe, just PM me.

Name: Thunder
Species: Dodo
Gender: Male
Appearance: Thunder proudly boasts his bright red plumage, and his coloration takes most after a Rhode Island Red rooster.
Personality: Thunder is a proud, albeit stupid creature. He had delusions that he is in fact Lightning's mate. He guards her to the best that his stature will allow, and will not stand if a wild male Terror Bird comes near her. He often uses his loud squawk to alert Kaeris when anything comes near his love.
Tamed By: Kaeris

Name: Lightning
Species: Terror Bird
Gender: Female
Appearance: Lightning sports a black irridencent plumage that shifts from Purple to Green in the sunlight, and has long, pale, scale-covered legs perfect for chasing down small prey such as dodos and dilophosaurs.
Personality: Lightning is brash, and quick to anger. She is intelligent enough to know when she has been insulted, but by far doesn't appear to understand the chirping of Survivors. She appears oblivious to Thunder's claim on her, and doesn't understand why Kaeris keeps what she considers food as a pet.
Tamed By: Kaeris

Name: Flower
Species: Bronto
Gender: Female
Appearance: Flower is an older female, her once vibrant green hide has dulled to a dark forest green. Her legs, tail and neck all sport scars from a long life of defending attacks from various predators on the island.
Personality: Flower appears very humble, a dinosaur her age knows to appreciate every day. She knows if not for Kaeris she would have most likely starved, or have made an easy meal for the various predators that called the crater home.
Tamed By: Kaeris

(( I'll ad to these as I find time, sorry if they seem a little all over the place. ))

Oh my gosh the dodo, haha.

I was going to use a pathfinder system eg, if your HP is at 0, you need to be stabilized or you die. Based on stats you have more of a "final" hp before death. Damage or time passed makes this "bleed" go closer to 0. So in essence someone can help you. That's for human characters. For dinos there's 0 hp and dead. I'm going to use the ARKrp system where if someone wants to keep their character, they can just wake up unconscious somewhere. If you want a new char, then you can choose a new char that starts as a new survivor or old.

Also, accepted. The Bronto may be a bit tough to move around though, but I'm sure you'll find a way.

Where there's a will, there's a way. Even if I've got to jump down and spend a week chopping logs and breaking rocks.

I figured we'd either go D20 or Fate on this... As long as we've got a fair way to assign HP to everyone.

[edit] Hopped to the RP thread and found I wrote myself into a wall... in my profiles I'm in the the Northern Shore/Hidden Valley and everyone else is in the Southern Islets/Shores/Foot paw... that's a in-game 2 month journey on a Bronto XD...

Haha... That's not good >.<'

I was just gonna say@Esperacchius that since Kaeris needs the cement stuff for repairs she'd be free to come trade with Isaac, who has a beezlebufo & the cement stuff.

@Hawk That was actually the plan! I just lucked into Neptune starting Varis and his Spino in the Maw so I'm going to see if that pans out... if it doesn't she'll move on...

I actually struggled finding goods that you could only get in the north... really Pearls and Pelts are the major thing I could think of up there... and since we all seem to be low to mid-their in tech Pearl's aren't helping anyone really... But come the colder months everyone's going to want/need pelts for fur armor...

I'm sure Varis might be willing to do some trading and giving away. He's been almost everywhere with his Spino, all but the North though. But here soon, I might have him tame a saber-tooth or dire wolf to help him get through without Adami losing body heat.

@Esperacxhius lol, well when you need it, he'll have plenty (given that he doesn't need any surpise repairs, which he may)
