I am 18 in january, and have been drawing since i was 13. While i would love to say im a good artist, i know i have alot to improve on. This clan seems like a wonderful idea and id love to be a part of it.

I also have a suggestion~ Maybe once a month or two there's a art contest, where you are given a topic and you are to draw to the topic should you participate. Small prizes of SB would be given to the top three participants? This way it will add a bit of a fun competitive edge, and will give artists practice to draw something they may not have drawn before.

You know, you are actually writing about something simillar to what I meant when I was writing "I'm also thinking about creating rewards system." in main post. I was thinking about it for some time now and I know more or less how it would look like, but I wanted to wait and see if there will be people who want to join before writing about such details. :)

hiya! i'm shaska and i've been drawing digitally for maybe two years now? you can see a portion of my growth [only about the past year and a half] on my portfolio here. some other things about me as a sort of introduction i suppose are that i have a hard time motivating myself to draw [hence commissions, but i can only do them in the summer], switch in and out of "casual" typing occasionally, and spend more time than i should on the internet :o lioden is pretty much the only community i'm active in and the only thing that forces me to keep drawing, so i'm hoping that this family will enhance that and i'll be able to see even more growth in myself. i have a whole lot of things to get a hand on still, but recognizing you flaws is a start!

i would love to see challenges, though the prize system would likely have to be based off of something other than who's art is the best otherwise it could get discouraging for some people? i love the idea of mentoring/how-to's and possibly there could be a tutorial thread where we could post short tutorials to help each other out? maybe there would be a reward for posting one?

@saphiri i use a huion tablet. It's like 80$ on amazon and a good starting out tablet c: I have used it for a year now and really enjoy it ^^ I think I'm ready for the next step up though and currently saving for the huion that has the display screen in the tablet itself

saphiri - i use a wacom pen & touch with sai, and have for the past year and a half. i highly recommend wacoms in general, they're a leading brand and very nice!

Saphiri i recommend wacom myself but-
I have a Huion gt-190 because it was all i could afford (400$) and it works great for me
Wacom runs way better though, my cousin has one

Well, that's good, I didn't remember that. :D
Your idea about making tutorials by members and sharing them is great, I'm definitely going to create topic like this. :) Keep giving me ideas if you have them, making threads and organizing them wouldn't be a problem as I am going to send you links to private clan forum when we will find 10 members.

Shaska - actually one of main reasons to create this community is finding the way to keep being motivated to draw. I sometimes find it hard myself and I think this clan could really help.
You mentioned the prize system - I think you don't need to worry here, I invented it in the way that the challange winner's reward wouldn't be very big. (especially for now as the clan is really small and I won't have any sb from it that could become rewards) It would only be a way to say that he did good and that he should keep going. Expect much bigger rewards for things like being active. You could get it by doing all challanges in the month for example. (I don't want to go into details too much here)

I use Wacom Bamboo Pen & Touch for... 4 or almost 5 years now? I really didn't know anything about art then (almost nothing changed btw :D) so it was just good luck that I liked art that much after this. I don't recommend to buy tablet this way. :D

ok guys I am stumped... how do people get the small thumb nail picture of their reference photo on the canvas you are working on in paint tool sai? lol

I'm not sure if I understand correctly, but you can always just paste the reference photo to the canvas on separate layer, change it's size and move it somewhere it doesn't cover your painting?
