![]() Current Weather: Blistering hot sun without a cloud in sight Enter Canada: Not a drop of rain has been seen since early May, and every animal is feeling it. The sun has become uncharacteristically hot, killing and drying out the Mustangs' main food source: vegetation. The horses have fled to a small, twenty mile area of pine forest, deep in the mountains, seeking shade and relief from the hot sun, which is burning light colored horses. Deer and moose are heading to wetter lands, depriving the wolves of their main food source: fresh meat. Because of this the swollen wolf populous have turned to the horses for food; killing young foals and old horses alike. Safety in numbers has been taken to the extreme, some herds harboring well over a dozen horses. More wolves have passed through these lands, following their prey source. When they happened upon the hundreds of Mustangs hiding in the mountains they stayed, adding to the already overgrown Canis Lupus population. Mares keep even older foals close, and yearlings with a good head on their shoulders dare not stray from the protection of their lead stallion. Because of the dry, sparse grass, lactating mares are condemned to a dwindling milk supply, unfortunately and quite unwillingly starving foals unequipped to graze on what little grass there is. The new wolves brought with them an awful disease, dubbed the "Staggering Sickness". The horses have no known treatment, but healers are working tirelessly to find a cure. It can take anywhere from four to ten days for the symptoms to appear, and contact with the victim's droppings, urine, saliva, nasal discharge, or even breathing the same air will almost guarantee the sickness continues to spread. The main symptoms are thick nasal discharge, staggering gait, hind leg weakness, fever, and lethargy. Some infected horses even die. Wolves seem unable to catch this horrid disease, but it passes from horse to horse like wildfire, and whole herds are dropping like flies, especially with more horses in a smaller area and larger herds. The disease also causes malformed or aborted foals in pregnant mares, and foals, along with the elderly, are more susceptible to it. Character SheetsNo thread generated. Ace Her ears flickered around assessing the situation. Her tail flicking behind her absently. She had no clue young Prisha left, focusing instead on this newborn who she could not loose. He reminded her so much of his father, the mare and foal sat in the dug 'nest' which blocked all cold as she allowed him to gain some strength before leading him back to the tribe.. Where they would stay for the winter. ![]() |

Renegade-Starshock, Estrella "Oh thank God!" Renegade cried. He nuzzled her gently "Thank God" he whispered. All the lame, frozen, emaciated stallion felt was relief. All pain was gone. "I'm glad you're okay my love. I would share any pain you feel, as it's no stranger to me." He nuzzled Estrella. "I think she'll be okay my love." ![]() |

Starshock >>Renegade, Estrella Starshock slowly got to her hooves still with no energy. "See Im fine." She said smiling at Renegade "It's just a hard winter is all." She muzzled him his flank warm against her ice cold snout. She slowly followed Estrella not caring if it was big enough for her she went and laid down immediately. When she did the cause for her weakness became visable, a deep infected wound Located under her front left leg. ![]() Edited on 20/10/16 @ 19:26:11 by Darkqueen💰 (#96769) |

Renegade-Starshock, Estrella Renegade immediately packed it with snow "I'm sorry if this hurts, it's the best I can do, maybe it will melt and clean it?" Sure enough as the snow melted from Starshock's body heat it ran red and white from blood and puss. "That looks bad. What will we do?" He felt helpless, a feeling he would gladly live without. He continued to pack more clean snow in hopes it may work. ![]() |

August / Stallion / 2 years 8 months \ Starshock, Estrella, Renegade August's ears pricked to hear chattering in the distance, and rushed to the scene immediately. His expression grew concerned as he noticed tear marks streaming down Renegade's face and Estrella sitting next to him with a racing heart. He then looked over their shoulders and gasped inwardly as he caught sight of Starshock lying on the ground. "What happened?!" He gaped in disbelief. Faehna / Mare / 4 years 6 months The black and white splotched mare shivered as a cool breeze ran down her spine. The contented mare had felt lucky to have such a thick, silky winter coat. Much heavier than most normal horses, although the piercing spring cold was still very harsh. She lifted to her hooves and trotted a short distance to the icy river, which was only a few lengths away. The ice was somewhat thinner now, as the sun's heat began to pace quicker for spring. By the shore of the river was a small crack in the ice, with bundles of herb sprigs leaning against it. Also, one long, dried twig, also resided by the herbs. She bent down to nip at it and lift it up, freezing cold water dripping from it's end. She trotted by a large, wet log with little specks of snow. It seemed she must have cleaned it off, as there were some other herbs without a twig base like plants similar to thyme. She held the stick in a position where as the droplets would fall onto the little flowers and leaves, so as to keep them watered. She had seen man do the same thing, and she liked to study them and use their ideas. This was yet another reason why she was a loner; most herds would just think it a pathetic and despicable thing, to use man's ideas. She, however, thought it was very useful, and some tricks had almost saved her life before. ![]() Edited on 21/10/16 @ 09:06:14 by Zypheria ☯ (#49415) |
