![]() Current Weather: Blistering hot sun without a cloud in sight Enter Canada: Not a drop of rain has been seen since early May, and every animal is feeling it. The sun has become uncharacteristically hot, killing and drying out the Mustangs' main food source: vegetation. The horses have fled to a small, twenty mile area of pine forest, deep in the mountains, seeking shade and relief from the hot sun, which is burning light colored horses. Deer and moose are heading to wetter lands, depriving the wolves of their main food source: fresh meat. Because of this the swollen wolf populous have turned to the horses for food; killing young foals and old horses alike. Safety in numbers has been taken to the extreme, some herds harboring well over a dozen horses. More wolves have passed through these lands, following their prey source. When they happened upon the hundreds of Mustangs hiding in the mountains they stayed, adding to the already overgrown Canis Lupus population. Mares keep even older foals close, and yearlings with a good head on their shoulders dare not stray from the protection of their lead stallion. Because of the dry, sparse grass, lactating mares are condemned to a dwindling milk supply, unfortunately and quite unwillingly starving foals unequipped to graze on what little grass there is. The new wolves brought with them an awful disease, dubbed the "Staggering Sickness". The horses have no known treatment, but healers are working tirelessly to find a cure. It can take anywhere from four to ten days for the symptoms to appear, and contact with the victim's droppings, urine, saliva, nasal discharge, or even breathing the same air will almost guarantee the sickness continues to spread. The main symptoms are thick nasal discharge, staggering gait, hind leg weakness, fever, and lethargy. Some infected horses even die. Wolves seem unable to catch this horrid disease, but it passes from horse to horse like wildfire, and whole herds are dropping like flies, especially with more horses in a smaller area and larger herds. The disease also causes malformed or aborted foals in pregnant mares, and foals, along with the elderly, are more susceptible to it. Character SheetsNo thread generated. Faehna / Mare / 4 years 6 months \ Renegade, August, Starshock, Prisha, Estrella The mare felt bad to leave him, but the patient comes first. She galloped gracefully, with stunning speed, looking surprisingly healthy this winter. She came to a slower pace as she spotted two figures next to one lying down. That must be his mate, a beautiful mare, with a horrible gash in her foreleg. She trotted past 'Prisha' and 'August', and practically ignore them as she kneeled down and organized her herbs. She spotted the honey and spoke without looking behind her. "Tsk tsk tsk, the honey was a good move, but it must be put on after the wound is partially treated." She then nipped some dried chamomile, and nudged it to the mare so she could eat it. "Take this, it will help ease the pain and soothe you. This might sting.." She warned, before grabbing a strange looking plant and applying it to the wound. Afterwards, she took a piece of aloe and snapped it, there was still plenty of clear jelly-like substances oozing out of it. She pressed a few small strips onto the wound, and then grabbed the plant of which she used to cure the infection. She used her jaws to carefully rip the soft green bark from it's base, and cover the small herbs attached to the wound. "Leave that on for a few days, and it should heal." She noted. "I hope.." She silently added on, praying that the infection was not too old to be treated. ![]() |

Prisha The young mare looked at Fae cautiously, watching her do her thing. She trotted away, trying to find food like bark. She looked at a tall tree, with dark brown bark. "I will take it." Prisha whispered to herself, before putting her teeth on the bark, peeling the bark off. She snapped them in half, before spitting it out. She shook her head, she was hungry. Oh well. She took it in her mouth again, this time, swallowing it. ![]() |

(I can imagine what bark tastes like.. DX I like to think I have a super power when it comes to foods, I can imagine precisely what it tastes like. It's kinda earthy, but almost in a bitter way, it has a very, eh, can't explain it, but dark flavor, like, like incredibly dark coffee and earth. Why did I make a whole post explaining what a tree tastes like D:) ![]() |

Renegade-Mentions: Fae, Starshock, August, Prisha Renegade limped back, only clinging to a small sliver of hope that Fae had made it in time. Please let Starshock be okay. Please! He thought. He came upon the scene and laid down in the snow. He knew to stay out of the way and lt Fae work. She would ask him if she needed something. ![]() Edited on 22/10/16 @ 20:47:30 by mr.man78 (#96942) |

Anika Anika blinked open her blue eyes, she was still tired, but she can't stay in an open field. Her belly was round and heavy, it tired her down, all the time. It wasn't the first time, she had a filly a year ago, sadly, Prisha, her filly vanished. She could probably be dead. She flickered her ears, listening to the peaceful bird songs. Snorting, she stretched, her rump high. She felt a sharp kick in her stomach, making her yelp. "Is this a boy or what?" Anika snorted, her breath coming in a cloud of mist before disapearing. She began to walk to somewhere near a herd was, maybe she could be accepted, and wont be so alone and vunerable. ![]() |
