I've never heard of the name for one being a Black Dog, though it just sounds as though copying a Church Grim. That could also be a possibility too. During the old days, houses or religious buildings wold bury a live animal beneath them to have a spirit protect the dead and ill. The most common were lambs, black dogs, and people. It was a Swedish tradition originally but spread. But I guess it also depends on their location. ![]() |

Ebony, a black hog would be chained to the stables in Africa for the longest time to fend spirits from the pregnant mares ![]() |

But guys, let's talk about something that's gotta be real; jersey devil. Reports of the creature have been found all through the east coast with a few even from the Midwest and west. I myself have seen an animal that I firmly believe to be the Jersey Devil because it was an animal with the head of a vulture (uncommon in Washington) hooves of a deer (vultures can't pick up deer) and the wings of an eagle (there are no golden eagles in Washington) in addition to that, the legs were moving perfectly coordinated to the wingbeats, as if they were running on the wind as the wings hit it ![]() |

Interesting, See personally I do not believe in the Jersey Devil as the story of it's uh... 'birth' was heavily religious. Although I suppose there could be a Jersey Devil, Or a creature similar to it, That may or may not exist. You've given an incredibly intriguing description though, I'll look into more cryptids of the sort to see if I can find anything alike, What location did you see it may I ask? ![]() |

Any "hellhound" I may have seen is probably a large black coyote cross that likes to follow me around when I'm with my dog Echo. It's a vicious hunter though, I'm surprised it eats anything at all, the way it shreds rabbits and the occasional chicken ![]() |
