Wiki entry about Combo Bases

This began as a way to share theories about possible combinations, but then things got way bigger than expected. A lot of people have invested a lot of currency in the scrying stone to see if we were right about combos, and here is the result :D

But wait... What are combo bases?

When you breed two lions with the right combination of bases, their cubs roll a further, extra chance that can result in a third, new base, a "combo" base. Each combo base has its own requirements, and these bases often ignore the set genetic rules: for example, the Cairngorm combo base (Black Light Solid Special genetics) can be obtained by breeding a Celestial lion (Black Dark Countershaded Special genetics) and a Cocoa lioness (Black Medium Countershaded Rare genetics). Most combo bases can be passed down as long as one parent has it and further requirements are met if there are any, with the exception of Pulsar and Temporal.

*Since the 12th October update, cubs that have triggered the original combo bases - Cairngorm, Citrine, Madagascar or Qahir - have a 50% chance of getting their respective mane color, and these can be inherited like any other mane color!

Right now there are two different types of combo bases: "standard" combos and "factor" combos. Factor ones can be obtined by breeding any of the bases that make up the combo, but standard ones can be obtained by more than one combination of bases that are assembled into two different groups. The combo can trigger as long as the parents have bases that belong to a different combo group (not to be mistaken by the genetic color group).

*Note: While some of the following standard combo tables have been completed, there may be some combinations that remain undiscovered yet.

So I know I should know this by now, but passing on combo bases still confuses the heck out of me, especially since it was all changed however long ago after the coding miscommunication. And I’m not 100% sure of the wording in the guide here, whether I’m just misunderstanding.

It’s not producing the first gen combo base I’m confused by, it's how to have a chance of passing it on from that first combo lion I’m unsure of, if you see what I mean.

Take Soul as an example, because it's straightforward - only 2 factor bases and no other requirements. I understand completely that Ebony x Ivory can produce Soul. But once you have a Soul base and are trying to pass it:

a) can Soul x Soul produce Soul cubs?

b) can Soul x Ivory (or Soul x Ebony, same difference) produce Soul cubs?

c) can Soul x anyrandombase (say, Mauve, for example) produce Soul cubs?

I hope it’s ok to post this here! But Bere and others you seem like the experts who would know this stuff for certain, and hopefully can help my confused brain finally figure out combo base passing <3

Thank you!! So either one parent combo + one parent factor, or both parents combo. Got it, thanks <3

@Myr

Wow, I've seen that others replied already, but let me throw an answer too! For any combo base to pass, you need to either breed a lion with it to another lion that has that same combo base - for example, Qahir x Qahir - or breed the lion with the combo base with a lion that has one of the bases that make up the combo - for example, Qahir x Chartreux. The only exception to this is Pulsar, that can only be obtained as a combo during July - that is, from two lions with any of the bases that make up its combinations. The rest of the year it can be passed down from Pulsar x Pulsar breedings.

I apologize if the explanation in the OP isn't clear, I need to think how to explain it better if it's still confusing.

That makes total sense now Bere, thanks - and thanks to everyone else too! <3

I think I was just slightly misunderstanding the way you had it phrased in the original post that had me confused, so thank you so much for clarifying. I got so lost when there was all the miscommunication before between admins/staff/coders/whatever about how it worked, I never quite figured out how it finally ended up set up, if you see what I mean.

Thanks so much for the help, now I get it and can happily go forth and breed more combos ;)

That's just genetics matching up to make Buttercream Sol, it's not a combo base :o

Sorry to seem a *bit* redundant, but what’s the difference between a “factor combo” and a normal combo?

How do you breed a Cinnabar?? I've been searching around for how to breed one and I can't get it. What are the bases needed?
