-LOCKED - Community Helping System, CoC update, and more!

Updates and Adjustments
* Gold Beetle sales now have an automatic expiry time of 1 week from when they were first listed. Current listings that have existed prior to this update have been given an expiry date of 9th March (1 week from today). This expiry will be separate from Rollover, so it's not 7 Rollovers - it's 7 real life days.
* Chat now uses standard date format. Instead of hh:mm:ss, mm/dd/yy it's now yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.
* Frequently Asked Questions can now be directly linked to, similarly to forum posts. The link is posted under each FAQ, just click on it and copy the address in the bar (e.g. http://www.lioden.com/faq.php?cat=1#1). Anyone who clicks it will be taken right to the relevant question.
* A link to post directly on the Help Board has been added to the very top of the FAQ section of the game.
* The price of increasing Marking Slots on lions has been reduced from 1GB per slot to 500SB per slot.

Helpers and the Helper Hub
We have a new Helper system in place as of today. We want to let it be known that we are deeply grateful for the Helpers that we have worked alongside for the past months and, in some cases, years. But it is time for an update to the system.

From now on, we will not be hiring Helpers as part of a team. Instead, we will be relying on community-sourced help on our Help Board (formerly "I'm Lost"). A bit like Yahoo Answers, actually. Members can post for help on the board, other members can reply with helpful information. Replies to Help topics can be rated based on whether or not they offer helpful information. Over time, members can accrue a secret "Helper Rating" based on how many of their posts have been marked as helpful.

But what about Helper paws? Helper Paws will be disappearing, as paws are a symbol of a handpicked team. We will instead be utilising the Community Owl badge as we recently stopped awarding it to members. The way of earning an Owl badge is to be active and helpful in the Help board. Instead of handing out an application form on an infrequent basis, we will be reviewing members' helper scores. After a certain threshold has been met, we will award the Helper Owl to members who have proven themselves to be particularly helpful. Members who have already earned themselves a Community Owl will be able to keep it in this new system.

The Helper Hub will be removed and all questions will be redirected to the Frequently Asked Questions section or the Help Board.
If you have a ticket open in the Helper Hub, it will be automatically marked as resolved today. If your question did not get answered, please post on the Help board!

So from now on - please vote on replies to Help board posts that are useful and contribute towards providing a community-driven help system!
If you need staff to clarify something for community that seems to require a check with staff, feel free to modbox your question and mention that community seems to be unclear on the answer.

Code of Conduct Change
With this new system, there's always the chance it could be open for abuse. For this reason, we have implemented the following into the Code of Conduct:

Do not solicit Help board post votes from other users. For example:
- Asking other members to vote a specific way (either Yes or No) for your post
- Offering rewards for voting a specific way for your post

We'd like to note that anyone who will be trolling the new system and spamming downvotes to all posts, will be treated as a troll according to CoC.

@Cerb
Link to the suggestion? I'd be glad to support it.
I do have to agree Lioden is just a mess right now. Nothing seems right, I'm worried that Xy might end up not listening.

@Menhit, this isn't really a place for me to link to it, but it can also be found by searching my user ID as the poster in chatter.

I disagree with the new voting/helper thing.
I've already seen a lot of misguidance there, and i mean A LOT. 15 people post the same quick answer in the same topic in hopes to get some votes. Like... competition is good when it's fair.
And i also agree with Icey, some icon or any token of appreciation would be fair to those who served the community.

I made a little rant about the helper system on Cerb's suggestion. What kills me is that the Helpers weren't given a REASON, and weren't fucking notified! Now people that wanted to be Helpers got their dreams crushed!!

"Now people that wanted to be Helpers got their dreams crushed!!"

You shouldn't need an incentive or reason to help people. If you wanted to be a helper for the status of it, you were helping for the wrong reason.

@Thalath
There's tons of people that wanted to be Helpers, and now that they can't?
That's what I'm saying. I wanted to be a Helper, just to help out the community.

I know, but there were people like me that wanted to be Helpers, I mean, yea...okay.
*throws hands up* should've not posted that thing about people getting their dreams crushed, but it is true. Would've been nice to be a Helper.

The point is you can still be a helper, just not a Helper with a shiny blue paw. Whether you have a badge/paw or not doesn’t make any difference to your ability to help people - anyone genuinely wanting to help the community can still easily do that, same as always. It really makes no difference from that point of view. Wanting to be a Helper for the status of being a Helper doesn’t help anybody, and I imagine would likely have been a reason for staff not to select those people's applications anyway

I hope you do realize I am not the one who listens or not, there's a whole team of admins @_@ when I hear "Xy might not be listening" i feel really bad, I do read your concerns, I understand them, keep suggesting stuff, the threads are useful during development meetings to link to and check out community feedback.
News post is not a good place for that

It was worrysome when a lof players were just into the applications for the paw and then they'd get inactive or acted inappriopriately etc.
The whole point is to help the community, that's why the badge is a Community Contributor. You still get to help the players and THEY will be the ones recognizing you.

Current system is very nice imho because we can clearly track every post and filter our wrong and downvotes answers. It's not like every reply, even bad one, collects any score :)
This way it is very clear who is truly helpful and appreciated by the userbase. It is much easier to notice a helpful person than it was via applications.

Oops sorry Xy. Sometimes I just get worried about the consequences of what's been going on with everyone with the current way how the helping system's been affecting people.
@Myr and Cerb, I kinda just wanted to know what it would be like to be a Helper, like, give it a shot. If you can actually just help people normally like what Helpers do, I am kinda starting to wonder why Xy stopped the Helper thing, in a good way.
Startin' to feel a little tired, gonna stop posting for a bit.

@Menhit also though, like Xy already said, he isn’t some omnipotent god of LD lol - he’s one part of a team. There is a group of admins that own, run and make decisions for the game. It doesn’t seem entirely fair imo to keep singling him out like he’s singlehandedly waving a magic wand and changing stuff, or like he’s the only one looking at player feedback. The ‘contact us’ link at the bottom of the screen lists staff roles.

Hey Xy!

While I do think the *idea* of a helping board is interesting, I just think the admins in general could have made maybe a poll asking the community first, or implemented it as a test and gauged the reactions. I know that helpers are technically staff (in a volunteer way), so it's more of an inner thing between the admins and them, but idk. Big changes like the iridescent group were discussed with the community. I felt like this could have been too-- though I wholeheartedly believe you guys had the best intentions for the members and the site as a whole in mind.

As for the other part of your comment, I mean, you're saying that a lot of helpers wanted the paw for the status and then went inactive, and I agree that's an issue, but... Isn't it exactly what's happening in the help board right now? Members tripping over themselves to try and get that shiny badge and the status that comes with it? At least with helpers it was a smaller number of people to keep an eye on... Now it's hundreds (thousands? LD IS a pretty big site these days).

While I dont think the new system is bad, I do think it needs a few tweaks, just like every big change usually does c:
