Hello there ^_^ I'm an aspiring artist and I really want to improve my art, therefore I wanna start using something OTHER than MS Paint.. X'D I've tried some programs before and some were cool, some a bit confusing, some VERY confusing. So I want to know what programs you use for art c: (If you want, you could show me some of your art examples and tell me what's interesting about the program(s)) I'm mostly looking for programs that are free, but feel free to suggest pay-to-use programs as well for future reference X3 It's not necessary, but if you can, you could share with me a few art tips :3 I still have some trouble using anything other than MS Paint XD Especially when it comes to smooth lines, anatomy, fur texture, shading and lighting, etc. Also while we're on the topic, does anyone know of any good animation programs? I want to start making my own animations but I don't know much good animation software. Mostly looking for things that have a trace of the previous frame for you to draw the next frame (Rotoscoping I think it's called..? Basically the feature in Flipnote Studio for NintendoDS where the previous frame is printed out on the next frame so you know where to continue drawing) and something easy to use. It would be cool too if some of the animating software also had some cool brushes and tools to create effects, textures, etc. Lemme know any good recommendations and/or art tips you could share with an aspiring artist like me X3 Thanksies ^u^ 0 players like this post! Hey all, sorry to crash OP's post - I just bought some new lines and wanting an app - (preferably laptop) to use. I'm only hoping for simple and easy tools like an auto fill, and some simple blending? Any ideas? I'm downloading FireAlpaca as I write and will try my hand at that! 0 players like this post! Like? |

@Sniper I normally use FireAlpaca abd sometimes I use PaintTool Sai, but the autofill tool tends to be a little wonky ;u; It's good for some of the effects tho. I myself am still looking for some good programs to use X'D 0 players like this post! Like? |

If you really want to do digital art and animation then Adobes creative set is really good. You get Photoshop and Animate CC. https://www.deviantart.com/opelstorm1324/gallery/ I've managed to do a few digital watercolor with Photoshop as well as some other stuff. Animate CC has onion skin (lets you see a few frames behind and in-front) and you can upload video to Rotoscope (tracing the frames of another video source) I used IncScape for a while, not sure if its free or payed for (came as a download with my drawing pad) It was alright and a step up from MS paint in my opinion. And just be careful when it comes to cracks of programs like these. Some use connections with proxy servers to make the program think your logged on with a real paid for account. If you don't know what your doing your probably gonna get a few virus. If you can afford it please buy the programs. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I'd recommend firealpaca and krita for free programs. I know that you've stated above that the autofill ain't really working well, but autofill generally doesn't work in art programs. A better way to colour is to use the wand tool to select the area outside the lineart, invert the selection, so that the area inside the lineart is now selected and then use the brush tool to colour on a layer placed underneath the lineart... at least that's how I do it XD As for paid programs, I'd recommend Clip Studio Paint and/or photoshop. Clip Studio, because I find it easiest to use and Photoshop because it's an industry staple. I use Clip Studio Paint for most of my drawings (e.g. https://www.deviantart.com/scarlet-t/gallery/?catpath=/) and I'd say that I'm pretty happy with it ^-^ 0 players like this post! Like? |

FireAlpaca & Medibang are basically the same, they're both free to use and very nice too, I prefer medibang though due to the darker layout & cus its easier to move around :) Other programs I've used that are free are: Gimp - not the best but it helps for easy edits in images Sketchbook - Pretty OK but it has a Pay-to-use Premium version Other good programs: Photoshop might be something, its abit hard to learn i've heard but it looks good Paint Tool Sai, easy to learn, i'd definetly use it but it doesnt work on Macs :P ^^^ Both have free trials of 10-30 days i believe 0 players like this post! Hello there friend! Im currently using Paint Tool Sai.. ANd even though it is a free program, it is hard to get.. There are lots of versions with viruses around so... What Im trying to do now is get used to Krita. You can make animations easily there, and if you only want to draw, it has lots of different brushes and textures! About tips.. I usually do the sketches traditionally, and then go and draw digitally over them using layers and opacity and stuff (I can stream for you someday, if you want). If I decide to go full digital, I use LOTS of reference pics, and here Im recommending Kuadro, a free to use thing to put images all around your screen so you can always have the refs at hand.. My favorite tool to do lines are pencil like. With strong colored lines, and I also change the settings to make it start and end the trace smoothly. I dont like "See through" lines (I have no idea how to explain this XD) Now shading... I have a particular technique.. Then again, I can show it to you on a stream, if you please. Here is an example 0 players like this post! Like? |

@Estil Ohh thanks :D Can Photoshop be downloaded without Adobe Creative Cloud? I've tried downloading it with that but the program doesn't install and Adobe takes up the rest if my limited memory :'D 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 23/07/18 @ 16:10:02 by Jewel Fazbear (#127341) |

hi there! I've got a few examples of my stuff here: https://www.lioden.com/topic.php?id=304429304019 I would highly recommend medibang paint pro! I've been using the program for years, and contrary to the name it is free a brief timeline here: I started using gimp, then after receiving my first tablet I switched to PSE (photoshop elements) because gimp didn't support pen pressure. after switching computers I lost the ability to use PSE, so I went to fire alpaca. shortly after seeing a friend use medibang I switched over. fire alpaca is a great gateway into medibang as they are sister-programs and share a lot of the same functionalities, though medibang has a larger toolset and ultimately gives you more functions. they are both far more complex than ms paint, but it is well worth the time to push through that awkward phase, I guarantee you medibang leaves a ton of room to grow in my opinion, I learn things about it all the time, stuff like perspective scaling (while is insanely useful for applying textures to clothes and walls n stuff and make the perspective look natural), downloadable materials and brushes, custom brush creation, filters, etc. it's all p neat in regards to choosing it over paint tool sai, i'm a Mac user and it isn't produced for Mac. I did make an effort to get into it, but I was only able to get a pirated version () and it did not have pen pressure which became a bigger deal for me after getting a tablet. I'm sure it's super functional and will suit your needs but my heart belongs to medibang if you need or want any help getting to know the program please let me know! in case you couldn't tell im a complete nerd about these things so I'd love to help 0 players like this post!
