I've been having a lot of ideas but none has outgrown it, basically a mutation that makes the lion look like a hyena.

but do not worry, your lioness did not go for a walk with a hyena, in fact HYENIS is a spine problem that still happens with the cub in the womb of the lioness.
When the cub is born, the first impression is that there is a hyena.

HYENIS

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

~I also thought of some texts for that...

-your lioness gives birth, all cubs are health, but have a different .. looks like a hyena .. WAIT ... HYENA ???-
-[cub] walks up to you and start a conversation, but realizing you're looking at him strangely he walks away quickly and back to his mother.-

-you looks the members of your pride, and see [cub] is away from everyone, you go and tell him to join others along with a message of motivation, he rises happily and goes to the others.-

-you watch [cub] play with your brothers, until one hour he trips and falls. and you burst into laughter.-

Devs already rejected anything coming from inbreeding. And dogs can have that issue, but no felines are documented with a spinal issue that extends the spine like above.

Well, I didn't see any harlequin Ichyosis cases in felines, but it's a mut. I support this, not many mutations change the shape of the lion

May not be to the extreme extent in lioden, but it does exist: https://www.petplace.com/article/cats/pet-health/ichthyosis-fish-scale-disease-in-cats

It's also known as fish scale diseaae

Wild to me with how many unrealistic mutations there are in lioden, people are considering THIS to be unrealistic. I understand the idea that mutations are wanted to be somewhat bound to reality still, so no inconceivable hybrids like a lion and a hyena or I don’t know, wild muties like a winged lions or something crazy like that; but this is just a highly conceivable spinal deformation that even those criticizing the “realism” of keep pulling up examples of in other species like hyenas and canids, both of which- This may surprise all of you- are actually pretty close to felines!! Hyenas especially! You realize that canids and felids are both part of Carnivora, right? Societally we view them as such different animals fundamentally but it’s a little bit like comparing various families of primates such as new world monkeys to chimps(or perhaps something even closer, like gibbons and chimps). Not so different now, is it???

It’s not crazy or fully unnatural to not take some inspo from the mutations we see in these animals and a lot of the discussion around what’s valid or not as an explanation of this mutation or whether it could ever be possible feels so bizarrely nitpicky.

We have all of these wild fur mutations you don’t see in real lions (at least not to the same extent or variation) but they’re fully conceivable theoretically. Or what about any of the various patches that you just don’t see at all (I know there’s like that one lion with a single black patch on its leg but that is at best a source of inspo for patches, it’s not anything like what we see in the game). We have our lovely primals where are more or less in universe just a magically granted hybridization of your lion with an extinct big cat. Even melanistic lions are not REAL, yeah we see this visually in other felids but this standard of “oh it doesn’t exist in lions at all but it exists in black panthers, therefore it’s realistic” feels so arbitrary. Like this,, a spinal deformity that is called a little bit akin visually to a hyena but has a fully conceivable explanation of how it works, is the line we’re drawing? One we see within very similar species and could absolutely work naturally with the anatomy of a lion? Idk. Don’t even get me started one the colors and markings we see in this game, it’s been mentioned before but half of those aren’t even genetically possible in mammals let alone lions.

If you don’t like the mutation just say you don’t like it, it all feels very hypocritical to be fine with everything else already in game but suddenly be upset about this one’s “realism”, all while pulling out examples of it sort of existing in other animals and overall just,, yeah anatomy COULD work like that very easily. I don’t know, I like the idea of believable mutations that don’t HAVE to be something we’ve explicitly seen in lions or even cats. I think expecting mutations to have a level of realism is perfectly acceptable and keeps wild ideas like some of the ones I mentioned before from flying off the rails (though if those standards were decided to change too by the devs, I wouldn’t care too much, considering the state of realism in every other aspect of the game) but man idk this is just a fun idea getting really bloated and contradictory pushback.

Anyway, to finish off by give the mutation itself more attention,. It’s a great idea and I love the concept art, I like it being compared to hyenas too because it feels very naturally like something lions would initially view a mutation like this as!! I actually feel like it’s incredibly grounded in reality for the standards set by this game, and I’d really love a hyena lion myself :)
