Making Sub Males More Useful
Make Grandpaws How They Were Meant to Be
-------

✪ Summary:

Shaman Piety is an extremely limited currency. Unlike almost every other quest in every Lioden event - potentially *every* other quest - Shaman Quests cannot be properly skipped without detriment to the player. Other quests allow you to skip a quest if it proves too hard. You pay an event beetle fee or SB to be given a new, random quest and you move on with life.

Not so with Shamans. If you skip a quest, you permanently lose a quest for the day. And if you get multiple quests you can't complete, well you're out of luck.

With the sheer amount of new encounters being added to the game constantly - both event and normal encounters - it continuously weighs the RNG odds of getting the correct encounter AGAINST the player. There is also a very incredibly obvious mechanic in place that makes certain encounters - if not all - harder to find if the quest seeking it is active.

After 6 or 7 energy bars, you should have found your quest encounter by now, but that's not the case. But after skipping the quest, miraculously, what you were looking for shows up.

Frankly, this is getting absurd.

✪ What I Am Proposing:

[+] Add a Scarab Beetle 're-roll quest' option instead of a total skip.
[+] DO NOT give players the same quest they just skipped.

I'm suggesting this amount be 10 Scarab Beetles. This month gives low currency drops and if you repeatedly get a quest you can't do, it'll be pricy, but at least you won't be locked out of quests entirely because it continues to ask you to look for that dumb cow or those humans you haven't seen even once since the event started.

You get 2-3 Piety per quest, and the big ticket Piety rewards for many players are Ancestral Markings. It takes thirty (30) to apply a single marking. That's 5-ish days worth of work assuming you can even complete every quest. If you can only complete 2, it stretches into 10 days.

Edit Log:
[ ADDED] 11/23/2020: DO NOT give players the same quest they just skipped.
Since there is an issue with multiple quests through the game already doing this, I'm politely requesting that if this change is implemented, it doesn't give players the same quest they skipped.

[UPDATE] 11/19/2022: LioDevs have added the following encounter as of November 2022:

However, despite it being added, some have reported rarely finding this encounter. It may not be sufficient.

Quote: "Huge support. I know they implemented the Ahihia encounter BUT I never encountered her even once in the entirety of November. At all. And I am a hardcore player, I roll every day and play for hours. So either the chance of getting the encounter is so low that it’s not even useful, or they messed up and didn’t implement it right. Either way, there DEFINITELY needs to be options for those quests bc it there were days in November where I went 12 hours of constant exploring and never got the one I needed" -via Chow.Hound (#162617)

I myself only encountered her once.
If you don't support, I'd like to know why. I appreciate constructive criticism over a simple "no".

I have a serious suspicion that this is the same problem like we had with "marking opacity does not affect pass rate". Somewhere someone was not informed enough about how this was supposed to work. Or, maybe, in first year of adding this event, when there was smaler pool of encounters a bit of negative RNG was added to make it a bit of chalange.
But now, when we have A LOT of quest encounters, A LOT of herbs ecounters, A LOT of fossil+basic November encounters (like new horse encounter, Lazarus song bird encounters, etc...) this negative RNG is killing it. And it seems that Ahihia encounter is also in this pit.
I simply cant belive that this is "working how it is supposed to work".

I just had another really really easy day of quests, I’ve been doing Shaman Sphinx’s quests so maybe it’s something to do with that?

Edit: yet another day of suspiciously easy quests wtf is going on for me

I finally had to give up on a quest for the first time this month. I spent several hours looking for the Katanga lion, and could only find Tsavos and the occasional Transvaal in explore. I think the lion quests are one of the biggest issues this event has, if even just those got changed to be easier then I think overall it wouldn’t be too bad

Yeah, for some reason I also had more trouble w/ Katangas than with Tsavos.

5 bars in, still haven't seen the ancestral tree. Over the near-hundred energy bars I've put into this account thus far, most of which were used while I had an active quest, I've seen Ahihia ONCE. Out of all the daily quests, I've had two days where I've gotten all quests done within my first two bars, two within the first 5 bars, all other days have been more or less incomplete. Even if the Ahihia encounter is made more common...ugh.

Update: I have now seen Ahihia twice. I have also given up on consciously attempting to get the quests done, which means that I naturally get them all done within three energy bars. Think uncaring thoughts of them and RNGesus will grant you what you need.

Today I had to give up on a shaman quest for the second time so far this month, the quest was to set the marked wooden poles on fire in explore. I took the quest at 5:49 LDT and just gave up on it at 13:10 LDT after exploring for the past 8 hours (my energy never reached 100%, I actively explored throughout the 8 hours). Got a rawhide quest instead when I took my next one, which of course was easy to complete

So far it seems that the lion battle quests are some of the most difficult to do. Even when I’m not on quests, I still rarely find them. When I do, I usually see Tsavo the most, then Transvaal second most, Kalahari third most and Katanga the least. Not sure if that’s how it is for everyone else or if it’s just odd for me

That being said, I have severely struggled with finding the Katanga lion twice, and I’ve only gotten that quest 3 times so far this year, so the odds do not look good for that quest. One of those times, I encountered Ahihia so I got out of it that way. The other time, I gave up on the quest after having it active for 15 hours (took it at RO, explored a bit, then went to bed so I probably explored for like 8-10 hours overall after waking up)

Squishing the toxic bundle takes a good few energy bars to complete, but it’s never been impossible for me so far, same for placing the herb in the lion skull’s jaws. I’ve been sticking with Sphynx so far since he only has 1 lion battle quest whereas Aker has 2, and Sphynx has 5 item quests as opposed to Tefnut’s 4, so I think he might be the best option out of the shamans?

I’ve still only seen Ahihia once since she was introduced

Edit: yet again, today on Nov 17-18th (before RO on 18th) the Katanga lion proved nearly impossible to find. I took the quest at 9:20 LDT on Nov 17 and only just completed it at 1:17 LDT on Nov 18. Granted, I’ve been multitasking with the demiurge quest so I fought about 40 battles today to finish the 100 battle quest, so I was spending quite a bit of energy on just winning the battles. However, out of all those battles I did, and out of all the exploring I did over the course of 16 HOURS (new November quest record for me, I think), not a single katanga lion showed up until right before RO so yipee. Didn’t see Ahihia that entire time either, obviously lol

Edit again: I encountered Ahihia again November 19th, and again just now on November 20th. I consistently struggle with finding both the Katanga lion encounter, and the “burn the marked poles” encounter, but the rest of Sphynx’s explore quests have been overall easy-ish to complete. Very odd. Wondering if they’re doing some behind the scenes RNG boosts, particularly with Ahihia since I encountered her two days in a row after only encountering her once over 2 years lol

Personally, I found the search encounter quests the most difficult

This year I've had very mixed results. A few of them routinely will not show up (the poachers are one), others show up nearly instantly. Not sure what's been changed but there's a difference.
