It's your boy, back at it again with another banger base idea. This time, it's gonna be an NCL exclusive. As much as I like the natural toned NCL bases, I figured a new color scheme of one could be had. Introducing: a gray NCL Base! It was loosely based off looking at the Maziwa base. I don't have any names for it currently but I'm open to suggestions! Criticism is always open as I'm still rusty at designing I also think it could be a Pewter combo base! Not sure with what but I definitely see the vision Like this? Check out my other bases Fox Base Vulture Base Name Ideas: cake 💫 (#53239) Mpunga (Zulu). Ngwevu, (Xhosa). Kijivu (Swahili). Um, cake’s name suggestions are actually just the names of various African languages… Not the words for “grey”… Jsyk… 1 player likes this post! Like? |

Oh what the hell. That’s such an unreadable format. That’s so difficult and troubling to read. 1 player likes this post! Like? |

I found this thread after going down a massive rabbit hole and realised I might have something to contribute! These grey bases are absolutely gorgeous, and I just wanted to make a small correction/suggestion to one of the names that were proposed. I'm from South Africa and grew up learning Zulu, and while it's not my first language, I know a decent amount from school/everyday conversations and can use it in conversations. I wanted to suggest that you change the "impunga" suggestion to "mpunga" (without the "i") because impunga with the "i" is a very specific grammatical conjugation of the root "mpunga" that only appears in certain contexts. Long-winded explanation: Zulu nouns take different starting prefixes depending on their class; for example, most human words start with "u-" or "um-", while nonhuman nouns (objects, animals) tend to start with "i-". When a noun is modified with an adjective, the adjective usually takes a prefix that matches the noun - this process is what linguists call agreement. "Impunga" is a variant of the root word "mpunga" that you would only see on nouns that start with "i-". For example, "Ikati impunga" means "The grey cat". By contrast, if I wanted to say "the grey teacher" (weird one but I couldn't remember any other human words), that would be "utisha ompunga" - note the different starting prefix. To go even further, "grey hair" would be "izinwele ezimpunga" - another different prefix. "Mpunga" is the citation form of the word, and it's the main form students are taught in classrooms; you learn bomvu is red and mpunga is grey, and later on you learn their individual conjugations. Seeing "impunga" by itself felt a little weird to me, so I thought I'd leave a comment hahaha This is a small suggestion on a thread that's more than 1 year old, but languages like Zulu are very underrepresented online, and accuracy matters. I'm also just a massive language nerd and love talking about linguistics. Hope this suggestion is helpful, or even just interesting If anyone else here speaks Zulu please feel free to correct me or add your own two cents! I live overseas now and don't get to practice Zulu unfortunately, so there might be something I've forgotten :)) 0 players like this post! Like? |
