There was a well known saying. One that Vidar agreed entirely with. If you want something done, you do it yourself. He wasn't a bad Beta. Perhaps, his packmates had a different tale. Despite being in the Midnight Pack for years, it was often that Vidar stood out to be a foreigner amongst their ranks. Likely due to his mother tongue becoming more than known as he spoke his full name. Vidar Bǫlverkr Skógr. A name difficult to understand in the eyes of the canid of this area. They typically went by one name, wearing it proudly. Vidar had three, all of his relatives did. It was difficult to get used to when he had arrived amongst this strange land. They spoke the same tongue, however, Vidar spoke it differently. His words were laced with an accent, thick and gruff which admittedly suited him perfectly. His packmates had grown used to it. For Vidar, it was a simple reminder that he was miles away from home.

And that was why Vidar had taken things to his own paws. It's not that he didn't trust his pack for a quick patrol around the borders, he simply needed to know that someone was doing it right. Who else fit that bill than himself? It wasn't a strange sight for the Betas around these parts to patrol themselves. In his homeland though? Definitely odd, an omen that bad was to come. His original pack had all sorts of superstition, superstition that he couldn't quite erase from the back of his mind, no matter how hard he tried to. It was tradition to follow things a certain way. And since Vidar was meant to takeover the throne back home, it was incredibly embedded into him. However, had it not been superstition that made him lose his home? None of what they had prophesized for him had ended up true. Or, hadn't ended up being entirely truth.

A part of his mind scolded him. Why was he thinking of his former pack? He had a new one now, one where he held significant power in. Vidar had to focus. What was done, was done. The past couldn't be changed, only the future. Letting out a grunt, the colossal coal hued brute took a look around his surroundings. Towering trees surrounded his right side. However, to the left, they had ceased. Instead, plains and hills took their place. The Midnight Pack Beta had made it to the border. The border between Midnight Pack territory and Sungods territory. The thought had him scowling. To this day, he couldn't seem to understand why they were named such a heavy name. The word 'gods' in them. Gods were not to be joked about and to Vidar's eyes, it was truly pathetic that they would carry that name. As much as Vidar disagreed with that part of the name, he had to give it to them, out of all the surrounding packs, he supposed the goody canids in the Sungods pack deserved them. Simply because of their overly goody demeanor.

An amusing snort escaped him at the thought. He would shake his head slowly, brow furrowing. Raising his large cranium, the male would part his nostrils as he took in a few, deep sniffs. No scents that he could detect. Vidar would lower his head back down, scorching hues squinting. Well, that wasn't anything new. Vidar hadn't been a good tracker ever since that large, deep claw mark against his face was clawed onto him. Perhaps, this hadn't been such a good idea. He should have brought another wolf with him, one that had better tracking skills than his terrible own. Cautious amber eyes scanned his surroundings, ear flicking occasionally with any moving bush. If there was anyone around, Vidar would be sure to find them with other means.
