The wind blew softly through what would've been a lively town, wafting the fresh smell of rainfall as the clouds parted. Small puddles of water glistened against the sunlight as houses stood empty with windows and doors smashed open. Not a single stirred and only the faint buzzing of electricity and groans of the infected coming from a distance filled this dull, desolate street. Well, except for the hurried footsteps and heavy pants followed by flapping wings and guttural screeches.

"You zombie birds can't even take a harmless prank, can't you!" A swish of ginger hair came into view as its owner jumped from a terrace and landed on the ground. All without breaking a sweat despite the attempted assaults.

"I only swapped out a stick in your nest, and now you lot had gone ballistic for that reason! You're all worser than the human ones." Vanoss' voice was filled with playful anger, but the undead flock didn't seem to share the same sentiments. Oh well, there's no point in entertaining these feathered folks if all that he had said were in one ear and out the other.

Blue eyes then darted around for whatever structure seemed to have the most rooms and dashed towards it, ducking and weaving past the scattered bits of corpses and debris on the way. The sound of shuffling feet and growling made his adrenaline pumped even more. The best part of a chase in his opinion.

Just a bit more, The enfield thought, eyes widening upon seeing the wooden doors and then-- doors were shut with a bang, locking it in place, and Vanoss slumped against it. "Phew, thankfully, the infected haven't been releasing spores lately." He muttered to himself, letting out a relieved sigh as he scanned the room.

"Now, I suppose this is where I continue my next adventure."

Vanoss breathed a sigh of relief and surveyed the interior of the abandoned building. He recognized it to be, or at least what used to be, one of the most prestigious schools in the kingdom. Tattered banners showing the school's crest hung pathetically from the rafters. He noticed the windows had been boarded up, but what he did not notice were the countless tripwires laid meticulously all over the place. He took a step forward.

The tripwire hooked on his foot, causing him to stumble. It took a moment to process what was happening, but everything seemed to snap in place once he heard the rattling of a Rube Goldberg type booby trap. Immediately he ducked out of the way as several loaded crossbows lined across the wall fired directly at him, just brushing the tip of his head.

In a frenzied panic, he tried to scramble away, but in doing so only made things worse as several more booby traps were activated, resulting in a plethora of blades, darts, nets, and what not. He got nicked a few times, but otherwise managed to come out unscathed. He slumped to the floor, putting a hand to his chest and drawing heaving breaths. Now that he was safe, he realized to absurdity of it all. Why would a school have booby traps in the lobby?

Down a long corridor, he noticed light coming from a room. He cautiously tiptoed up and peered inside what looked to be a library. A fire was going in the fireplace, far from burning out. Before he could hypothesize the strange sight, an arrow flew past his head, hitting the wall beside him, followed by a small shriek coming from somewhere hidden in the room. He noticed a pair of wide green eyes staring at him fearfully from a flimsy blanket fort.

Although I wouldn't mind rping as Val, I still haven't got the gist of his character like how he speaks, acts, and other details.))

(Alright here’s take two. Sorry again for the confusion)

Happy birthday. The words rung in Val’s head. It was his 20th birthday. He should be happy, but he wasn’t. He sat alone in his flimsy blanket fort in the library of the abandoned school. *it’s not fair* he thought. He should be spending his birthday with his friends, his family, his classmates. But they were all gone now.

The wind rattled the branches of the dead trees outside, and through the cracks in the roof the smell of an oncoming storm alerted him. He decided there were better things to do than wallow in self pity. So he got up and began his daily routine. He checked his booby traps and made sure his makeshift stronghold would suffice in the case of a hoard of the infected.

He never left the library unless it was to reset and check his traps, otherwise he stayed there full time. He hadn’t been outside in nearly three years and had been surviving on crops he used magic to grow.

The wind began to blow cold so he started a fire in the fireplace. The warm light filled the room and the crackling was comforting to him. He cooked himself a stew and picked up a book off one of the shelves. He sat in front of the fire to eat, idly flipping through the book. At this point he had ready pretty much every book in this library, and he knew them by heart. There was little entertainment, but he preferred being bored to being dead.

Once he finished reading, he preened his feathers. Since it had been so long since he’d been outside, he had never gotten a chance to spread his wings. In fact, he has almost forgotten how to fly.

Suddenly a bell on the wall rang. The bell was connected to one of his traps and would alert him when a trap was activated. His heart sank as he realized something broke in. More bells began to ring and panic began to take hold. He rushed to grab his crossbow off the wall and dove into his tent. He aimed the crossbow at the entrance of the library, trembling in fear.
