TLDR: i think the % of one cub litters and two cub litters should be swapped.

Lions usually have litters of 1 - 4 cubs, although 2 - 3 are the most common. Some lions can even have up to 6 cubs, although I can see why the limit is 4.

My point is one cub litters have become way too common in my opinion. When I first started playing the average was 2 - 3, which makes sense. I don't know why it was changed but it's really inconvenient, and I think it needs to be changed back. At this point if you want an average size litter you need to buy buffys for every single breeding.

I understand that lioden is a game and it's not real life. This game has both realistic and non-realistic features, though, and this particular feature I think should be made to match real life because 1 cub per breeding makes things so much harder.

I've been told the rates were changed due to population boom. I've also seen posts as early as 2016 talking about this, so maybe its always been like this. Whatever the case it, i think one cub litters should be less common. Maybe make two cub litters slightly more common than one could fix this. That way there's still population control, but players can get more results from their efforts?

I also wonder how this would effect the... uh... servers? Stay with me here, my computer literacy is BAD. But I have to assume more lions would take up more storage or something and could be detrimental to the way the site runs? Someone with more knowledge can surely correct this or add to it. Just curious about that impact!

The average was never 2-3. The average number of cubs in a litter is approximately 1.67, and has been since 2017. https://www.lioden.com/topic.php?id=304429292863&page=8

I can only speak for myself, but I've been documenting plenty of breedings since 2019. My average litter size from 2019-2022 was 1,6 Cubs per lioness, in 2023 it was 1,2, but this year it's at 1,6 so far again. I was very sure they changed something when I got that number last year, but maybe it's just rng

Ginger, that's weird, i could've sworn 1 was more common than 2. Are we sure it's still the same? The page hasn't been updated since 2024, is there another page with more recent information?

I'm gonna leave it as 2024 for funsies, but I meant 2020 lmaooo

For reference, this is the expected value calculation based off the results in that thread:

(1 * .49) + (2 * .39) + (3 * .08) + (4 * .04) = 1.67

What this means is that approximately half of your breedings should result in a 1 cub litter, and the vast majority of the rest should be 2 cubs.

I've been playing since 2015 and as far as I can recall, the wiki has always stated 1 to 2 cubs per litter. They recently overhauled the wiki (and some pages are still being added to the wiki) but here's a link to the old wiki that shows this being the case as of 2020: https://www.lioden.wiki/cubs

In real life only 1 in 8 lions born survive to adulthood.

The rates havent been changed in a while; the fluctuations are normal. Sometimes you get lucky and get a streak of 2-3 cub litters, then it goes down to normal 1-2. If you have experienced that change, it means you had a very lucky start in your game, but later, your luck went back to "normal" rates.

Ive never heard of rates being changed due to population boom, and if admins did that, they would certainly announce it in the news - litter size is important enough to be mentioned. They wouldnt keep quiet about this, and I personally did not notice anything out of ordinary - sometimes there's a lucky streak with mostly 2+ cubs, sometimes there's a normal day with just 1 cub litters.

They wouldn't have to update it for this year unless there was new information or things needed to be changed so that's why there is no updated wiki page for it. Sorry for misunderstanding your dates lol!

I think the person that told you the rates were changed mightve been spreading misinformation- lioden devs definitely would have made an announcement. The fact that there was a post similar to yours in 2016 further proves that the rates havent been altered. Assuming that the rates were changed, I don't think its that big of a problem in my opinion. Sometimes when
I mass breed I get a large majority of one cub litters, but most of the time it's pretty balanced, sometimes I even get a ton of 3-4 cub litters. And if you have a specific lion like a DU that you really want to have more cubs, you can just use a buffy.

I like Sky's message about the % of the sizes. That's what I meant when I said one was more common than two haha, I think their rates should be switched
