-LOCKED - September Development Update #72! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Posted on 2024-09-14 01:25:49
Treasure Hunting: SeptemberStarting automatically on 20th September at 00:00am Lioden time and lasting until 30th September at 11:59pm Lioden time, a new Treasure Hunting event will begin! Moving forward, events of this type will always occur during the last 10 days of the month, which includes January's Treasure Hunting event (21st to the 31st). We hope this gives the community enough time to prepare for the events, while we announce them and show new content in the usual Development Updates! We have decided on three Treasure Hunting events in a year, each with its own theme and alternative shop. The third event will have a fun twist and is aimed to be released in 2025, balanced nicely in a gap between the January and September events. To match the omens and the upcoming spooky month, the theme for September's Treasure Hunting is The Drowned! Inspired by some famous games and movies, September's Treasure Hunting will circle around ghost ships, drowned shipwrecks, the famous Kraken, and hints of Lovecraftian vibes. How Treasure Hunting Works You can choose from four *new* maps to send a submale out Treasure Hunting. The hunt lasts 15 minutes and rewards a small prize at the end. Each standard hunt has a chance of discovering a Treasure Map, leading to a much bigger reward if you follow the directions and discover the right place to send him next! The return of Treasure Hunting means that Doubloons are coming back as well! Every Treasure Hunt rewards some Doubloons, but following a Treasure Map will give a bigger amount. The Treasure Cove is makings its return, too, with a creepy overlay. In addition, all current shop items can be found (rarely) when completing a Treasure Map hunt! New Items from Treasure Hunting - Universal: Rusty Iron Grenade, Rusty Sextant, Sea Urchin, Spyglass - new random items that can be sold, kept for potential future crafting, or played with (does not apply to all). - September-Only: Siren's Call - slightly increases the chance of getting the current month's event battles/encounters in Explore for 15 minutes (works during all monthly events) - September-Only: Pickled Roe - used on a pregnant battle beetle to have them instantly birth a clutch of larvae - September-Only: Beetle Nemesis: Tubuca urvillei - a special Beetle Nemesis token Unique in the Drowned Shop
You may have noticed a new item in the Drowned Shop - Sanafica. Using this item will disable beetle larva encounters in Explore for 15 minutes. Enjoy the bounty! WAIT. Skin: Growth?! Yes! This skin grows outside of the usual lineart. If you enjoy the concept, we'll consider adding more supernatural skins in future! New Combo Base!Plague is a new combo base that we are implementing from this suggestion topic. Thank you, Svalbard [Haze RLC] (#129703)! Per the suggestion, this combo utilises bases released through the Harbinger's shop and September's craftables. This base can be bred year-round and is not limited by time of day or season. Genetics: Red Dark Solid Special, tied to Black skin. Factor 1: Augur, Harbinger, Haruspex, Seer Factor 2: Gregarious, Locust, Swarm Wardrobe Overhaul!This update comes packed with a lot of new changes under the hood, and also some shiny new toys to boot! Not only has the interface been given a bit of a facelift (although we tried to keep it similar where possible), but it should hopefully no longer be a nightmare to try to load. Here's a quick rundown of what's new and what's changed: * New Settings * Include custom decors * Enable Floating Preview * Ask Before Leaving (where supported) * Show Owned Items also includes backgrounds * Download your design straight from the wardrobe (also available from lion pages) * Reset the design and start over * No more drag and drop markings or decors * Revealed hidden markings are displayed * Show up to the maximum of 25 decors * Set opacity for all markings at once * Save the whole design, or just the outfit! * Save up to 40 designs * Item effects now work properly! * Chameleon Skin * Eye of the Fierce Roar * Eye of the Kitten * Eye of the Youth * Tigers Eye * Lab Test Frog * Import the weekly Special Lioness directly from the Import menu! * View the Nesting pose in the wardrobe! Performance IssuesOne of the biggest issues with the old Wardrobe was the marking & decor selectors. Each time a new marking or decor got added to the game, it slowly decreased the performance of the page. This is due to how the browser renders standard dropdown menus. Every option in a dropdown is what's called a DOM node, essentially an object the page has to keep track of and draw. The more DOM nodes on a page, the worse it becomes. Especially so for lower end devices.For those more technically inclined, loading the old wardrobe up would start you out with just under 73,000 of these nodes (1 per marking per dropdown, 1 per decor per dropdown, plus all of the other elements on the page). If you added 10 more marking slots, that bumped you up to around 102,000(!!) nodes. And that's without being able to add any more decor slots. Again, each new marking or decor would add 1 more node for every dropdown on the page. The new wardrobe uses our custom selectors. These help manage the DOM nodes and keep them much more reasonable. If you were to check the number of nodes in the new wardrobe, it sits around 25,000. Add 10 more marking slots? Still around 25,000. Add 15 more decor slots on top of that? Still around 25,000! New SettingsA couple of the new settings deserve a little explanation. Enable Floating Preview gives you the freedom to view your design while you scroll through the list of appearance options. It stays affixed to the top of your screen while everything runs behind it. This works especially well with the new "Enable Layer Highlighting". Hover over a marking or decor selector, and watch as the respective layer lights up. You also have the option now, when saving your designs, whether or not to save the entire design or just the outfit (including background). This way you can import an outfit onto another lion to see how it looks. There are bound to be some issues cropping up. So if you experience any bugs or oddities, please report them directly to the Bug Board! Be sure to include what operating system (Windows, Mac, Apple, Android, etc.) and browser you're using, just in case it's a device-dependent issue. Please note that the Wardrobe is currently not working in older browsers. The following is a chart of browser versions that are currently compatible. We are working on accommodating older browsers, though it may take us some time. Additionally, we are aware of the current Import issues and those are being addressed as well. Thank you for your patience! Updated Custom Decor Creation FormThe Custom Decor Creation form is also being updated. While this is a minor update, it will hopefully alleviate some issues when attempting to submit a Custom Decor for approval. One thing that we have noticed is incorrect layering for a number of submissions. Whether it's not selecting the correct type (Universal, Age Specific, or Age & Mane Specific), or not filling in the correct fields for the proper layer. You will now be greeted with far fewer options, helping to guide you through the appropriate settings. As you change the "Type", the more options that become available: This should go live sometime later today! Coding Bug Fixes & Miscellaneous Adjustments* Search no longer breaks if you attempt to use a "/" in the keywords - go forth and find fractions! * Some outdated item descriptions have been adjusted. This includes the item descriptions for Cheetah Skin, Crocodile Scale, Damp Log, Four Leaf Clover, Locust Wing, Porcupine Quills, and Speckled Pigeon. * The custom selectors have had a couple of issues worked out, including "ghost" selections and trying to select ranges sometimes breaking the list. * The inbox has been slightly updated with regard to deleting messages. The buttons to "Delete All", "Delete Checked", and "Delete Notifications" have been changed to red for visibility. "Delete All" and "Delete Notifications" now have two confirmation popups asking if you are sure you want to delete your messages. A confirmation popup has been added to the "Delete Checked" buttons in both the regular inbox and the Game Notifications folder. * The Mocha base has now been renamed to Latte. Raffle LionessCongrats to the winner of last week's raffle lioness! A new Squall lady with Ocean eyes, Feline 10 Onyx (NEW!), Lilac Burmese, and the fourth Mauritania background is up for impressing in the Special Lioness area linked here! Marking Note: Feline 10 Fiery is now possible to apply via RMA/RMR/Total Shuffle!

very disappointed by the lack of powders for this event I feel like a lot of the player was waiting for a revival of the pirate event for the powders, and instead devs decided to push sparkly (vaguely useless) new items to distract us from the lack of the thing that many of us wanted from the pirate event. 14 players like this post! @448720 - You likely wouldn't be poor if the devs made items actually accessible! If you could grind a gnawrock in a day, thats 20GB in your pocket. 45gb if you wait a couple months. 7 players like this post! Like? |

Personally, I like that items are rotated throughout the year instead of being present for every Treasure Hunt. It makes each Treasure Hunting event feel that little bit more interesting as a semi-regularly reoccurring event throughout the year. I like the inclusion of Pickled Roe, the crab(!!), and Sirens Call. Sanafica isn't really for me, but I don't mind its existence. I suppose that it's, in a sense, the beetle equivalent to Hyena Butter, and like Hyena Butter, it'll help give people's chances of finding more desired encounters a little boost, which, given how easily obtained Treasure Hunt items are during the event, seems reasonable. I would like for some items with a less niche use to be implemented in the future, however. As for the current event currency drop rate, I don't really have an opinion either way, so that's not for me to comment on. 8 players like this post! Like? I'd like to think for most people, 'complaining' - providing feedback - is done out of love for the game and desperate wishing for improvement on something you are passionate about. As long as it's done in a civil manner obviously! 11 players like this post! Like? |

The decors, BGs, combo (congrats Sval!) and QOL changes introduced with this are all fantastic and thoughtful, which only makes the contrast with the Treasure Hunting decision here starker. 10 days a year availability is not nearly enough to work with, especially directly before the busiest event of the year. Ochre powders are a powerful item for project breeders now, and many have planned their future goals around them returning as was frequently implied. I've seen the multiple admin interactions in main chat aiming to be more transparent about site progress as I'm sure others can also attest to, and there was reassurances that yes, Treasure Hunting would be returning outside of the January event, it had been delayed due to the Jaglion event, but it was still coming, and people budgeted items and made plans accordingly. People were not worried about the availability of the specific map exploring mechanic of the event. They were worried about the availability of the specific useful items in the Treasure Cove shop. The bait-and-switch is frankly disappointing. If the concern is the items are too powerful when stacked, reducing them from a +10% boost to a +5% boost should do much to counter that, while maintaining it as useful for project breeders. - A 10m x same 10m breeding using 2x powders at the current rate has a 59.9% chance to produce a 10m marking-clone cub. Paired with a buffy, that is 93.6-97.7% odds of at least one 10m marking-clone cub in the litter. - A 10m x same 10m breeding using 2x powders at the reduced rate has a 19.7% chance to produce a 10m marking-clone cub. Paired with a buffy, that is 48.2-58.4% odds of at least one 10m marking-clone cub in the litter. Which is a significant reduction, but still useful compared to base odds- - A 10m x same 10m breeding using no powders has a 5.6% chance to produce a 10m marking-clone cub. Paired with a buffy, that is 16.0-20.7% odds of at least one 10m marking-clone cub in the litter. In my own opinion, a debuff is not necessary (although again, I understand if that's the concern that led to this decision), given the item has such limited availability even in the originally implied distribution - gathering the necessary currency is rng-based and timer-limited, and an individual account can only acquire so much as energy boosts are not an option to 'buy' more time. The only option outside of that is to buy from other players, which is a finite source. 3 sets of 10 days a year does not make that OP, especially when HS and BB can be ground for at much higher rates in their respective events. I hope this change is reconsidered. 19 players like this post! Like? |

Something else that should be noted is that with all these updates with new items/features are being rolled out despite other features they recently released having not been fixed yet. Leopard tails, Jags, and now Wardrobe are all *broken* features in the game that aren't even finished yet. Why do they keep adding items and rolling out new stuff without IDK fixing the games bugs or things that aren't working right?? Genuinely though my biggest gripe with this update is just how much it shows they haven't listened at all. There has been complaints over the new items they've been releasing since Leopard tail, and yet they keep releasing more items that.. no one has been asking for? Also if they wanted to replace a breeding item they should've replaced it with *another breeding item* at the very least, even though I'm an advocate that Ochre Powder should be in BOTH shops because it's only around for 20 days of the year. if they want to rotate out decors/bgs fine but leave the items we actually LIKE around. And if they wanted another 15 minute item, I saw a suggestion for an item that repels ALL fighting encounters for 15 minutes and that seems way more useful that... 15 minutes no beetle encounters. At MOST I encounter that once every 2-3 energy bars anyway, that seems like a cop out for us to spend currency on and for them to say "but we did something, see!" It feels like they're releasing new items to distract from the fact their game is falling apart, jingling some keys in front of the player base so they don't look at the MASSIVE cracks. 20 players like this post! So cool decors for the pirate thing, but nothing actually useful to replace the utter lack of ochre powders? The one item I actually cared about from the last hunt? And utter silence on how crappy the JB and omen rates have been this month, huh? Except for whatever the heck “Sirens Call” is supposed to be? Despite the numerous pages of players complaining about how jacked the rates have been this year? 9 players like this post! Like? |
