-LOCKED - September Development Update #72! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Posted on 2024-09-14 01:25:49
Treasure Hunting: SeptemberStarting automatically on 20th September at 00:00am Lioden time and lasting until 30th September at 11:59pm Lioden time, a new Treasure Hunting event will begin! Moving forward, events of this type will always occur during the last 10 days of the month, which includes January's Treasure Hunting event (21st to the 31st). We hope this gives the community enough time to prepare for the events, while we announce them and show new content in the usual Development Updates! We have decided on three Treasure Hunting events in a year, each with its own theme and alternative shop. The third event will have a fun twist and is aimed to be released in 2025, balanced nicely in a gap between the January and September events. To match the omens and the upcoming spooky month, the theme for September's Treasure Hunting is The Drowned! Inspired by some famous games and movies, September's Treasure Hunting will circle around ghost ships, drowned shipwrecks, the famous Kraken, and hints of Lovecraftian vibes. How Treasure Hunting Works You can choose from four *new* maps to send a submale out Treasure Hunting. The hunt lasts 15 minutes and rewards a small prize at the end. Each standard hunt has a chance of discovering a Treasure Map, leading to a much bigger reward if you follow the directions and discover the right place to send him next! The return of Treasure Hunting means that Doubloons are coming back as well! Every Treasure Hunt rewards some Doubloons, but following a Treasure Map will give a bigger amount. The Treasure Cove is makings its return, too, with a creepy overlay. In addition, all current shop items can be found (rarely) when completing a Treasure Map hunt! New Items from Treasure Hunting - Universal: Rusty Iron Grenade, Rusty Sextant, Sea Urchin, Spyglass - new random items that can be sold, kept for potential future crafting, or played with (does not apply to all). - September-Only: Siren's Call - slightly increases the chance of getting the current month's event battles/encounters in Explore for 15 minutes (works during all monthly events) - September-Only: Pickled Roe - used on a pregnant battle beetle to have them instantly birth a clutch of larvae - September-Only: Beetle Nemesis: Tubuca urvillei - a special Beetle Nemesis token Unique in the Drowned Shop
You may have noticed a new item in the Drowned Shop - Sanafica. Using this item will disable beetle larva encounters in Explore for 15 minutes. Enjoy the bounty! WAIT. Skin: Growth?! Yes! This skin grows outside of the usual lineart. If you enjoy the concept, we'll consider adding more supernatural skins in future! New Combo Base!Plague is a new combo base that we are implementing from this suggestion topic. Thank you, Svalbard [Haze RLC] (#129703)! Per the suggestion, this combo utilises bases released through the Harbinger's shop and September's craftables. This base can be bred year-round and is not limited by time of day or season. Genetics: Red Dark Solid Special, tied to Black skin. Factor 1: Augur, Harbinger, Haruspex, Seer Factor 2: Gregarious, Locust, Swarm Wardrobe Overhaul!This update comes packed with a lot of new changes under the hood, and also some shiny new toys to boot! Not only has the interface been given a bit of a facelift (although we tried to keep it similar where possible), but it should hopefully no longer be a nightmare to try to load. Here's a quick rundown of what's new and what's changed: * New Settings * Include custom decors * Enable Floating Preview * Ask Before Leaving (where supported) * Show Owned Items also includes backgrounds * Download your design straight from the wardrobe (also available from lion pages) * Reset the design and start over * No more drag and drop markings or decors * Revealed hidden markings are displayed * Show up to the maximum of 25 decors * Set opacity for all markings at once * Save the whole design, or just the outfit! * Save up to 40 designs * Item effects now work properly! * Chameleon Skin * Eye of the Fierce Roar * Eye of the Kitten * Eye of the Youth * Tigers Eye * Lab Test Frog * Import the weekly Special Lioness directly from the Import menu! * View the Nesting pose in the wardrobe! Performance IssuesOne of the biggest issues with the old Wardrobe was the marking & decor selectors. Each time a new marking or decor got added to the game, it slowly decreased the performance of the page. This is due to how the browser renders standard dropdown menus. Every option in a dropdown is what's called a DOM node, essentially an object the page has to keep track of and draw. The more DOM nodes on a page, the worse it becomes. Especially so for lower end devices.For those more technically inclined, loading the old wardrobe up would start you out with just under 73,000 of these nodes (1 per marking per dropdown, 1 per decor per dropdown, plus all of the other elements on the page). If you added 10 more marking slots, that bumped you up to around 102,000(!!) nodes. And that's without being able to add any more decor slots. Again, each new marking or decor would add 1 more node for every dropdown on the page. The new wardrobe uses our custom selectors. These help manage the DOM nodes and keep them much more reasonable. If you were to check the number of nodes in the new wardrobe, it sits around 25,000. Add 10 more marking slots? Still around 25,000. Add 15 more decor slots on top of that? Still around 25,000! New SettingsA couple of the new settings deserve a little explanation. Enable Floating Preview gives you the freedom to view your design while you scroll through the list of appearance options. It stays affixed to the top of your screen while everything runs behind it. This works especially well with the new "Enable Layer Highlighting". Hover over a marking or decor selector, and watch as the respective layer lights up. You also have the option now, when saving your designs, whether or not to save the entire design or just the outfit (including background). This way you can import an outfit onto another lion to see how it looks. There are bound to be some issues cropping up. So if you experience any bugs or oddities, please report them directly to the Bug Board! Be sure to include what operating system (Windows, Mac, Apple, Android, etc.) and browser you're using, just in case it's a device-dependent issue. Please note that the Wardrobe is currently not working in older browsers. The following is a chart of browser versions that are currently compatible. We are working on accommodating older browsers, though it may take us some time. Additionally, we are aware of the current Import issues and those are being addressed as well. Thank you for your patience! Updated Custom Decor Creation FormThe Custom Decor Creation form is also being updated. While this is a minor update, it will hopefully alleviate some issues when attempting to submit a Custom Decor for approval. One thing that we have noticed is incorrect layering for a number of submissions. Whether it's not selecting the correct type (Universal, Age Specific, or Age & Mane Specific), or not filling in the correct fields for the proper layer. You will now be greeted with far fewer options, helping to guide you through the appropriate settings. As you change the "Type", the more options that become available: This should go live sometime later today! Coding Bug Fixes & Miscellaneous Adjustments* Search no longer breaks if you attempt to use a "/" in the keywords - go forth and find fractions! * Some outdated item descriptions have been adjusted. This includes the item descriptions for Cheetah Skin, Crocodile Scale, Damp Log, Four Leaf Clover, Locust Wing, Porcupine Quills, and Speckled Pigeon. * The custom selectors have had a couple of issues worked out, including "ghost" selections and trying to select ranges sometimes breaking the list. * The inbox has been slightly updated with regard to deleting messages. The buttons to "Delete All", "Delete Checked", and "Delete Notifications" have been changed to red for visibility. "Delete All" and "Delete Notifications" now have two confirmation popups asking if you are sure you want to delete your messages. A confirmation popup has been added to the "Delete Checked" buttons in both the regular inbox and the Game Notifications folder. * The Mocha base has now been renamed to Latte. Raffle LionessCongrats to the winner of last week's raffle lioness! A new Squall lady with Ocean eyes, Feline 10 Onyx (NEW!), Lilac Burmese, and the fourth Mauritania background is up for impressing in the Special Lioness area linked here! Marking Note: Feline 10 Fiery is now possible to apply via RMA/RMR/Total Shuffle!
Tags! Shad has added 22 new tags this month in the Doodles, Event ➜ September, and Miscellaneous ➜ NPCs categories! Poll Results - Thank you all for voting on last week's poll! It looks like many of you would like to see a few more Feline recolours, leading us into this week's poll... NEW POLL - Out of the following options, which one recolour for Feline markings would you most want to see added to Lioden? We will be implementing the top three results. Let us know in this week's poll! Next Update: Community Update - September 20th! Next Development Update: October 11th!! Where's the official raffle and Friday comic? Community raffles and Friday doodles are only released on community updates. This is a development update, so no raffle or doodle will be released this week, sorry! Our apologies for the late news post! Better to have a small delay than more bugs. We appreciate everyone's patience! 153 players like this post! Like? Edited on 14/09/24 @ 02:37:08 by a Moderator |

Incredibly disappointing dev update. To preface, I am writing this all out because i love this game. But in all honesty, this dev update reflects a severe disconnect between the admin team and their core player base. It's painfully obvious that no one who makes these decisions is connected substantially to the community. All anyone wanted was ochre powders. People wanted treasure hunting back. Because of ochre powders. Ochre powders were a big swing from the admin team, and despite their initial (somewhat) controversy, they became a key component of breeding projects. And because we were promised a treasure hunting rerun, we all played around with our new toys and burned through them all by June. And then treasure hunting didnt come back. And it still didnt come back. And we wait and wait and wait. All to hear that we won't be able to go for them again until January 12th of next year. Instead we can have.... a basically useless explore item! It's a baffling decision to me to not include the most sought after item in a treasure hunting rerun. It appears to me that the dev team is prioritizing giving us shiny, new experiences over what we actually want. Treasure hunting could've been rerun with exactly zero changes and people would've still been happy. Lioden has clearly suffered recently from having too much workload, which just makes me plain confused why the dev team voluntarily spent all this time on something no one asked for? At the very least, treasure hunting should've been rerun and then polled on if we wanted rotating themes. And for the combo? It's uh. Ok? It's another decision that leaves me kind of baffled. Consistently, the dev team picks 6 year old suggestions that no one has seen or thought about in years over newer suggestions with thousands of supports. I understand that this one fit the "theme", but not everything needs to be themed. The last entirely independent combo was... basalt? A lot of players were excited for this dev update because we thought we were getting a non-event related combo base. Maybe I just have a tinfoil hat on but it's insane the number of player suggestion that were 1. from a player who has already gotten a suggestion in game and 2. from before like 2020 or so. There are so many player suggestions that players are actively asking for and supporting, why not add those? And uh. Wardrobe is really cool.... if it worked. I broke it in about 2 minutes of trying to use it super super full of glitches so i hope those get fixed quickly 27 players like this post! Like? |

The crab rave-- LMAO. Seriously though, thank you for the big updates. Sometimes I get sad that the game will become stale (same events every year, same storyline etc) and injecting these new events helps keep it fresh. I look forward to more big updates in the future. 2 players like this post! Like? |

I also wanted to say that Siren's Call does sound amazing, especially during the upcoming event October! I would LOVE for it to 1) Be longer than 15 mins.. Like even the coffee beans could use a boost. I think these two items could be AMAZING together if they lasted just like Roasted Lambs because that's how I see myself using them with the Lamb. Especially since it's more affordable than buying Energy Boosts like I would do now! I see potential in Siren's Call and Coffee Beans. It's just lack luster when these items don't last any time...I MEAN even Hyena butter lasts longer lol 2) For Siren's Call to be in the Shop 🥹 like I would gladly switch that item with Sanafica to be in the Shop. Just otherwise seems wiser to just save up my Treasure hunt currency for Jan.. Ofc I believe every criticism here on this news page is out of tough love. People LOVE this game. I love this game. At the end of the day, I believe the player base just wants to feel like we're being seen and heard. I know I appreciate everything Admins do..we just want to feel like our opinions are important. 13 players like this post! Like? |

I have nothing more to say, I participated in the first revolt of the players and there is only one thing to be taken from this situation, >they don't care they won't change<, it's simply disappointing and tiring, Lioden was built by the same players who now fight for their rights and are ignored. 11 players like this post! I have to agree with Coolio and a lot of other comments from players upset with this recent news update. I love this game - I have spent an immense amount of time on this game between breeding projects, event grinding, etc. I'm complaining because I love this game and want to see it improve. I have been patiently waiting for treasure hunting return since May, when the admin team initially mentioned the return of treasure hunting being planned soon but was delayed due to Jaglions. That's fine, I understand delays and appreciated the transparency. But then June and July rolled through, people burned through their powders due to expecting a return of this item soon. August came, people anticipated the return of powders since the initial polling never mentioned removing items from the shop and cycling items, causing people to sell their powders off like they would for any other upcoming item that's about to be in season again. And now what? Ochre powders are almost 20 a pop and will only continue to increase until January. That's 40 if you use double powders for a project litter - something absurd when you consider ochre powders were originally proposed as a gnawrock-lite that's more affordable (albiet admins implemented different mechanics than the suggestion). For context, If you're specifically breeding for a super high breed-only project lion and use two ochre powders (40gb rn) + a buffalo scrotum (20gb rn) that's 60gb per litter.... now imagine that in December when both items are going to be even more expensive. Projects require dozens of these litters oftentimes and that's not even including the time/currency it takes to get to the point it's worth double powdering + buffying each litter. I completed my vagabond project when powders were way cheaper and I do not envy the poor souls who try to do that shit when powders cost 2-3x what I paid, that project already broke me. They're going to be in hell if they need to ochre saltlick the mane or ochre gnawrock a rosette on top of that. It just feels like a huge middle finger to users with a breed-only project who have been planning around the return of this item for months. We cannot "grind" treasure hunting due to it being time-constrained, if you have a full-time job or you're a student you're fucked, for lack of a better word. For the briefest period, a full breed-only project was feasible (expensive, but feasible) if you planned accordingly and saved GB to buy ochre powders in-season... Only to find out "in-season" is only 10 days for arguably one of the best items in game that often times get double-upped on and blown through quickly. The same players who drove in-season prices up to absurd numbers in February (and even September) are just going to do the same shit in January and it's going to be even harder for the bottom 95% of lioden players to get the items they need in season. You're only making it easier for the richest lioden players to control and ruin the economy. The players who actually play the game are actively getting screwed over. The vast, vast majority of players wanted treasure hunting back because of the ochre powders. It's a huge slap in the face that we weren't polled on rotating shop items and a lot of people were led to believe ochre powders would be back soon, and planned accordingly. If you were going to replace any item this event, I can't fathom why you chose the breeding item people cared about more than any other item rather than the other exploring item (coffee beans) when several exploring items were implemented for this rotation. Or better yet, just rotate the decors. You guys introduced some really good items, and it'd be nice to see them more realistic to use for projects :') I've never seen any suggestions for rotating event shop breeding items - I've only seen this concern raised for applicators which tend to rot in hoards/not get used much longer than breeding items. This just feels like another huge disconnect between admins and the community, similar to how the community proposed raffle studs and admins came out with suggesting full clones released in explore when it was never mentioned before. I really, really hope that admins take the community response into consideration like they did with the raffle lioness discussion, at least. That being said, I don't really have high hopes (but I hope I'm proven wrong - edit thanks for proving me wrong admins). Side note, can you guys at least please clarify if doubloons are saved between shops if nothing else? 29 players like this post! Like? I'm sorry mods for these words. I know it's hard to see my favourite game undergoing these issues, and I'm so terribly sorry that you had to read this. We mostly wrote these in spiteful manners since for the past 2 weeks, we haven't been heard enough I now understand you all try your best to give us what we want, I'm sorry I failed to realize that before. Ok i don't think admins are horrible people. Or stupid or any of that. I think the main issue here is there has been a series of unfortunate events that have not been fully addressed and the long time player base is tired of promises not being fulfilled or things they wanted are not being taken into account because none of the devs/admins actually play the game much imo. Which is fair cuz you got a lot to do. But when you've played for 8ish years or more or even less... and have seen that the past couple years people aren't being listened to as much. Which I do agree you don't have to tell us everything your doing. Your totally ok to make the items be different per treasure hunt. However you should make sure the treasure hunt is accessible for more then 10 days. I don't need it to be month long but 10 days is way to short for those of us with jobs or kids or a life. The wardrobe is something I am excited about but again it's pretty buggy so it's gonna take awhile for me to be happy with it😅 Anyways devs/admins please note the player base is not turning on you for no reason. It's because we don't feel heard anymore. Which yes you can't make everyone happy... and you have done some things we have asked so thanks for that. but when you got long time veterans of the game coming out of the woodwork to say stop... and really listen... that takes a lot cuz we prefer to keep the game going and we don't want you guys to think we are ungrateful for the game you've given us... but its just been a pretty shitty season imo. And I'd like to see this game soar and keep going. But unfortunately the only reason I'm still here js because of the community. If it wasn't for that I'd be long gone cuz projects aren't feasible with the drop rates of jb as they are. Or anything else really due to the market crash. 23 players like this post! Like? Another thing in addition to what DawnStar says - a lot of veterans are coming out of the woodwork now because we (I certainly) are no longer afraid of catching a ban if we say the wrong thing because we're so close to giving up on the game as it is because we aren't heard. 5 players like this post!
