Who knows what might have happened, had you visited on any other night. For tonight, was a full moon, and the veils had thinned. It comes as no surprise then, that the moment you turn your back on the egg, something strange happens: it disappears. And you laugh because ha-ha the egg went invisible again, so you reach down to pat it and reassure yourself. But this time it is really, truly gone, and it does not come back.

You panic as the moon creeps higher and the shadows grow longer and still there is no sign of your egg - until a shimmer appears in the air. A wisp of lich-fire almost seeming to beckon you. Taking a tentative step towards it, it disappears in a flash, only to appear a ways down the path, leading deeper into the graveyard. And so you follow.

She sits there, robed in black with only a shadow where her face should have been, one pale hand gently stroking some.. creature. It turns to you with holes for eyes as black as the night, and a body composed of bones and bits of ever changing scales. It seemed to shiver in the cold night, but perked up upon seeing you. You, who might have loved it.

"It is not your fault, that you lost her. Strange things happen when the veil thins between planes. Nor is it her fault she was curious, as all living things tend to be." The figure says to you, in a voice like stars and wind. "You will continue to lose her, as she has been... altered. Where once she could change between forms and colors, now she appears to drift between worlds and realms, forever a lost thing." The figure gently strokes a hand down the creature's spine, and her night black eyes flutter closed.
"But you, stranger, you may be her tether if you so choose. Love her as only you might, and let her soul be set aflame. Should ever you lose her, light this lantern - my gift to you and her both. It is a summons, as much as a beacon. A way home - as long as you are her home."

Should you accept this task, to love and be loved, a spark shall ignite within the creature's eyes, and upon her lantern. With a soul kindled flame, a bond has been struck. May luck be with you as she learns to control her powers and travels between worlds. May she always find her way home, to you.
