Kade glanced at Dakota. That slight bit of irritation was still there but she ignored it. There was no need to be rude. She was still waiting for an answer from Velvet but there was no harm in including him in the conversation. "Hello, Dakota," she said. "Velvet and I were just discussing the possibilities of other ranks being filled, now that we're more like a real pack and less like a bunch of wolves who are just together by chance." Her tail swept across the ground where she sat, leaving wide arcs in the loose dirt and fallen leaves.

Rivers yawned as she woke. Everyone seemed to be awake already and there was a new wolf with them, so she walked over to Kade, where she was speaking with Velvet and Dakota. "Morning," she said, nodding to each of them in turn. Velvet seemed to be holding herself differently from the night before but she couldn't quite place it. Kade looked like she was waiting for an answer, and it seemed like Dakota had just joined the conversation.

Kade moved back a little to make room for Rivers in the growing circle. "Morning," she said to the other she-wolf, returning the head-dip offered. "Velvet is the new alpha female, by the way. Remington made that clear this morning. He also found a new survivor right when we were all waking up and I'm not sure but I think his name is Kodo."

Mariposa sat down in front of Kodo as she yawned and licked some morning dew from her pelt. She looked back to Kodo and dipped her head in a greeting. She only talked when she felt neccesary. She hoped he wouldn't take it as a sign of hostility.

Velvet’s appearance

Another survivor? Velvet perked up at that, morning sleepiness gone. It gave her hope whenever another survivor was found. A larger pack was more likely to survive than a smaller one when none of the wolves knew each other. She wagged her tail, smiling happily, when she heard Remington refer to her as his mate. She doubted she’d ever get used to hearing that, or that the warm flutter of her heart would ever cease at the words. She was excited for the rest of the pack to know. A pack with a single alpha could be stable, but a pack with two alphas could have a future.

Velvet reciprocated the pressure as he rubbed his pelt against hers, delighting in the exchange of scents that showed they belonged to each other. He went off to check on other pack members and she turned to chat with Kade. ”We just talked about how nice it was to spend some time alone,” she told her, ”Honestly we didn’t speak about too much else since we were so tired. I guess it was a long day for everyone.”

She chuckled as Kade asked if he’d be choosing a beta soon. She knew Kade was a dominant female, able to think not only for herself but also for the pack. To Velvet, nobody was more deserving of the role of beta. ”I’m not sure,” she replied, ”It would probably be for the best to sort out ranks before setting off though.” She gave Kade a nudge and a wink, ”Want me to put a good word in for you?”

Stood next to Kade, she noticed Raoula nearby and called out to her. ”Good morning Raoula, how are you?” She looked up, hearing Dakota, ”Thank you Dakota. I hope we can do right by you!” A few minutes later Luna walked up to her. Velvet laughed and nipped the pup’s ear gently, ”It’s a bit soon to be expecting pups. The pack’s very new and we have a long way to travel. Besides, if I was pregnant how could I keep you out of trouble?” Her tone was playful, truly happy for the first time since finding out her old pack had succumbed to the earthquake.

Rivers joined the small group stood together and Velvet couldn’t remove the smile from her face. She’d found an amazing mate and a new pack. She could remember life in her old pack, being surrounded by the rest of them and constantly playing and nudging against others to reassure herself they were still there and keep bonds strong. She never thought she’d have that again after the death of her pack. However, given the way everyone seemed to gravitate towards each other, she had hope that she’d have that sort of bond with other wolves once more.

Dakota couldn't help but shake his head in disapproval at the mention of Kodo. He wasn't one to keep his opinion to himself. He looked at Kades scars, trying to be discreet. He could tell she was confident and strong, just by the way she carried herself. "How'd you get those?" He asked her, guestering to her scars. She stared at her wide eyed, like a pup, expecting a story about battling wolves and caribou by herself. He always loved fantasy stories, like the ones his father would tell him and his brothers.

Kade laughed and bumped Velvet's shoulder with her head in a friendly, playful gesture. "I'd love that. You're the best," she said, then cocked her head to the side as she heard Dakota's question.

A grin split her face. "Alright . . . This one here, on my shoulder," she began, seeing the say her her mind's eye. "It was a bright day, plenty of sunshine, in the middle of winter. I'd been alpha of my pack for a few months but the pack was on the brink of starvation. And some younger wolf thought she could run it better. I am of the opinion that she also was jealous of my mate, but he'd have stepped down with me had I lost. So, this she-wolf challenges me. It's in the middle of winter but I'm eating better than she is because she refused to hunt half the time. So we fight. I win, of course, but it wasn't easy, and she got me on the shoulder with a tooth."

She moved to the second. "This one was when a bear broke into the den," Kade said. "A massive grizzly, the spring after the fight, just out of hibernation and starving. We'd had two litters that year, five strong pups, and the bear was too hungry to resist. But it underestimated our numbers and our strength. My mate and I took the lead and started biting at it and the others fell in with us, all but the mothers of the pups, who were getting their children to safety. The bear got me right there and killed one of my closest friends, but with his sacrifice, we were able to drive it off."

Then the one on her hip. "For my hip. When I was very small, no more than a few months old and still a loner, hunters came and killed my mother. I had two siblings. All three of us were captured and taken to their metal cages. They probably intended to breed us with dogs; some humans do that. I was given that scar and they did some very painful things; I don't remember all of it. But the larger scar happened while I was escaping. One night, the humans forgot to lock the door of my cage properly, and I ran against it until it opened. There was another, sharper fence around the place, and I managed to get under a loose section, but a jagged bit at the end caught my hip. I did manage to get out and find a pack willing to take me in, though. I don't know what happened to my brothers."

Silence overcame her but she managed a weak smile. "Those are only the stories that left scars. I have plenty more, if you'd like to hear them sometime."

"Cyber... huh. Well, I'm Kodo. It's nice to meet you." He said, slowly letting himself fall down into a sit. He glanced at the other female and started feeling at least a little bit of comfort, if a few of them would accept him right away maybe the others would in time. "And yours? I don't want to forget to ask." His tail wagged weakly once or twice, simply because he'd finally managed to pull it out from under himself.

He turned as another female joined the scene and he instantly recognized her as the Alpha's mate. He wondered how long they'd known each other, but it was easy to see when a pair was just matched for one another. He'd seen a few pairs like that in his time, and it was always a good sign for a developing pack to have that bond right away. Without it, chaos was always just around the corner.

Remington's Face Remington's Body(more muscle though)


Remington walked to his tree he knew so well from the day he was a pup. He was happy and proud that the wolves around him had chosen and believed in him to be their alpha and lead them. He had been so busy that he hadn't been able t stop and take in the fact that they would be leaving and heading on their journey soon. To the others wolves they had lost their packs, homes and everything, but he hadn't he lost all that a long time ago. Remington would have to now leave the only thing left of his past and his family to start with a new group and lead like his father always wanted him to. Remington quietly sighed to himself looking behind him seeing all the wolves socializing and gathered around one another. Remington looked back at his tree and started walking into the woods a bit through the bushes to another place he knew so well. Hidden within the bushes was a place him and his sister had buried a human item they had once found when they disobeyed there parents one afternoon. They found in a river a necklace with a silver coin on the end, he chuckled at the sight of it as he dug it up and buried it again. He lifted his head over the bushes seeing the wolves still all together talking and walked out of the bushes with his head low to the ground.

The temperature started rising with the sun and he went under the boulder where it caste shade and lay down. He didn't want to ruin the communication that was going on with the wolves and laid there stirring up dirt with his tail trying to stay cool. He looked around at all of the wolves thinking about the roles he felt they would be best in. He then sat up tall and watched Velvet with a grin of happiness. The way Velvet spoke, and moved just looked stunning and made him feel good to finally have her as his. As he remained laying under the boulder he thumped his tail on the ground watching from the distance.

"Mariposa." She simply said in reply to Kodo. She dipped her head. She looked around and she pointed at Dakota with her paw. "Dakota." She said, trying to not talk too much. She only got the point across. She then turned back to Kodo and she laid down, crossing her paws.

Dakota could hear Mariposa say his name. He grinned. "What? Cat got your tongue? You seemed so full of words earlier!" He teased. He thought about the statement she had made before. 'Remind me not to feed you tomorrow,' she said. Dakota chuckled. She was so easy to bother, it only made it more fun. He wasn't trying to make enemies. He was only teasing her, nothing to cruel or serious. Dakota smiled, then turned his attention to Kade. "It's crazy how much you've been through," he told her. "Someday, I wanna have stories like that to tell my pups." He was excited to become a father. He always imagined the little ones running around, so eager to learn and so full of life.

Cyber heard Dakota's remark to Mariposa. 'How rude,' she thought. Oh well, nothing that I can do. She turned her attention to Kodo. He seemed like a kind fella. Cyber smacked him lightly on the shoulder, then bent down, sticking her rear in the air in a playful manner. She jumped up, smiling and batting his paws with her own. Her tail wagged side to side, waiting for him to join in. She was usually fairly serious, but he seemed scared and lonely, she wanted to make him feel more welcome.

Twist yawns, blinking they sleep from her eyes. She glances over at the newcomer before getting to her paws and stretching the stiffness from her muscles. She trots over to the new wolf and those who seemed to be speaking to him already. "Hello! I'm Twist." She greets, offering a grin. She hoped her appearance wouldn't scare off a potential new friend, as she didn't have many of those. She had a pack, but that was family. Friendship was quite different.

Lyall lifts his head, following the scent of wolves. Those he had smelled earlier had seemed to move off. He had fallen asleep in a bed of ferns and woken up early, continuing his search. Finally, he could see the heads of wolves. It appeared to be a pack! He trots into their midst, being the very outgoing wolf he was. He waits to see what their reaction would be before speaking to avoid unwanted conflict.

He nodded softly to Mariposa, turning his head before the cheer on his face dissolved into almost horror. He stared at Cyber's wiggling for a long moment, unable to quite process what she was doing. He stumbled back into the small black wolf that had approached, glancing side to side nervously until her actions clicked in his head. "O-oh. Uh. Haha!" He laughed awkwardly, unused to actual playful behavior. Most often in his life play had involved getting beaten up, so he didn't really know how to respond.

It was then that he realized he'd almost bumped right over the newcomer, glancing at her apologetically and flattening his ears. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you yet. Did I step on you? He asked, glancing her over with the kind of submissive look an Omega would be very used to, just not on the other end. "I'm Kodo, I was just starting to meet everyone." He added, smiling a little bit as the overwhelming response started to get to him. He didn't seem to notice what she looked like at all.

Raoula lifted her head as she heard Velvet call her. "Oh, hi Velvet!" said Raoula, trotting towards her happily. She barely felt ill-at-ease at all with these wolves she had only met yesterday morning. Yesterday morning! That brought her to a halt. She had only known these wolves for a day, but she thought of them as her pack! That was odd. She continued her walk towards Velvet, smiling as she reached her. "It's going to be a nice day."
She suddenly went rigid as she caught a new scent; a new wolf. There was a stranger in the clearing! She turned her head and saw him talking to Twist. He seemed a scruffy sort of wolf, like he was an omega. He wouldn't attack...but she still felt fearful around him, at least until she got used to him. "What's your name?" she asked him softly.

Aatu looked up as he saw Luna leave; she glanced at him, then at Velvet, and left to go talk to her. It seemed she was now the alpha female. Yawning, Aatu left the bushes, smoothing his rumpled fur and pulling twigs out of his pelt. There was a new wolf in the clearing. Aatu barely spared him a glance before he turned to Velvet, where the rest of the wolves seemed to have gathered. He may as well join the party. He wasn't really a morning wolf however and yawned constantly as he made his way towards them, joining the conversation.

Mariposa heard Dakota's comment and in one swift movement, she pounced on him and pinned him down, her large fangs dangerously poised to strike. "Care to repeat that little comment?" She asked with a snarl. She had her claws sheathed, but she was ready to unsheathe them if he disrespected her or anyone else.

(I'll edit this with an actual post later, but I need to point something out. Wolves cannot "sheathe" their claws. They are not cats. They also do not generally use their claws as a fighting weapon; they use their teeth. They are canines, quite different from felines. Take a look at a dog's paw, and then a cat's. The dog's claws are always visible, whereas the cat's are usually concealed. Just a little reminder ;3)
