Dakota continued to stand beside Remington when he felt slightly uneasy. He could sense that someone was watching him. Out of the corner of his eye he looked around at the clearing, then saw a female watching him. He looked straight ahead and sat down. He looked around, making sure it was him she was looking at. He looked back at her, then forward again, grinning. He was flattered, she was very pretty. His tail began to wag slightly, and he looked directly at her and winked, making sure she saw him. He looked her up and down, then at her face, and smiled. Then, he stood back up and stood beside Remington, smiling.

Cyber walked over to Velvet and sat down. "I'm so happy for you and Remington," she told her. "I think it'll really help to get this group close." Cyber stood up and shook the grass from her fur. "You two are both so beautiful, I can't imagine how amazing the pups will look." Cyber loved the thought of pups. The group already started feeling like family, little pups would make it so much better.

Velvet’s appearance

Velvet nudged her head against Kade’s shoulder in sympathy. ”I’m sorry things worked out that way.” She couldn’t imagine what it must be like to try for pups for so long and not be able to have them. Now, Kade’s mate was gone. Velvet didn’t know whether he was alive or not but he wasn’t here with Kade. She’d probably never get the chance to see whether they would have been able to have a litter together. She felt pained for her friend. She lifted her head to watch the fight attentively, hoping it was a minor one for dominance rather than a serious attack.

”A gorgeous day,” Velvet replied to Sollux, tail wagging slowly. Her gaze drifted from the fight to him, though her ears remained perked so she would know if anything escalated too far. Though the day was a nice one, a break from the rain showers they’d been getting, that wasn’t the reason the day was good. It was being with the pack and having Remington as her mate that made Velvet so happy.

Speaking of Remington, the femme noticed her mate had moved closer to the group again. Her tail wagged and she smiled as Aatu started a conversation with him. She was about to move over to him when Cyber approached her. Turning to the female, she beamed, ”Thank you, Cyber. I’m glad the group is getting along as well as it is.” She tilted her head when the femme mentioned pups. She wasn’t the first to have spoken of future pups this morning and Velvet felt herself getting excited.

It was no secret that she held a strong affection for pups, having been a sitter in her previous pack. One of the reasons she’d held off on getting a mate for so long was because she needed a male who was not only good enough for her, but good enough to care for any pups they may have. She looked over to the male who would hopefully one day sire her litter, expression full of content fondness. ”It really would be wonderful to have pups in the pack, wouldn’t it?” She thought of Luna, so lonely being the only one her age. Pups birthed into the pack by anyone would bring the group closer, would give them a sure future to work for.

The desire to be a mother was stronger now that she’d found Remington than it had been for a long time. She trotted over to where he and Aatu sat. She circled fully around him closely, marking him further with her scent where their coats brushed, then came to a stop at his left side to sit beside him, pressed against him. ”Hello, my mate,” her voice almost purred, tail thumping against his. She placed a paw over his and butted the top of her head against the bottom of his chin before nuzzling into him. She couldn’t help the need to shower him with affection, to show him how much it meant to her to be with him now. ”Good morning Aatu,” she smiled at the other male, not forgetting the presence of her pack mate.

Mariposa watched Dakota leave to stand next to Remington and she sighed. She suddenly noticed Dakota gazing at a female and Mariposa perked up her ears. 'He can't be serious.' She thought as she then gracefully walked under a tree.

The male nodded, and then listened to Cyber and Velvet converse about pups. He himself had never been fond of the idea, Atleast not after the insident. He sighed, finding himself looking around upon Velvet leaving. Everyone seemed to be finding someone to become close with. Sol would just have to wait for the right wolf to come along.

Sollux tilted his head up, looking up at the blue sky, the sunlight warming him to his marrow. He let the smallest smile keep on to his muzzle, and closed his eyes. He was happy to be able to have a moment to bask in the glorious light, silent or not. He sighed, longing for the days he had spent with his mate, before she had gone. When they had played and joked and flirted with eachother. It wasn't long before the quake that they themselves had been discussing a family. The smile on his face grew a bit bigger as he thought back, and the top of his tail wiggled a bit.

Giving the cautious gray she wolf a second to fully focus on her, Nova stood,she knew it was hard to see her pelt especially in the shadows. She studied the female pack member for a second noticing that it seemed difficult for the wolf to hold herself in a dominant position. Nova kept her head up, staring the gray wolf in the eyes, silently telling her that she was dominant, but acknowledging her outsider status by keeping her tail lowered. "Greetings, My name is Nova I would greatly appreciate it if you introduced me to your alphas so I could join your pack. Thank you for offering, what is your name?" After a second of thought and inner laughter Nova apologized with a self depreciating smile. " I'm sorry if I spoke oddly, my mentor was an older wolf and sometimes when I am uncomfortable or feeling strongly I revert back to his way of speech." Nova gently nudged the gray wolf with her nose wondering if she had once been an omega. There were two types of omegas Nova was familiar with, the kind that thought of itself lower than dirt, always scared, doing whatever he or she was told. The second kind was always respectful and trustworthy, they were the best wolves to have on your side because you did not have to worry they were going to try to steal your rank. Nova pitied the first kind and respected the second. As she stepped into the light with the gray she wolf at her side Nova looked up at her magpie silently signaling him to come down. Ro dived landing lightly on Nova's head tilting his head. "And this," Nova said dryly, humor sparkling in her blue eyes. "Is Ro my black-billed magpie traveling companion." As Nova followed the grey wolf who was heading for the two wolves she had noticed earlier Ro moved, perching lightly on her back. Not the most dignified picture, but better than having him on my head ,Nova thought with amusement.

Remington's Face Remington's Body(more muscle though)

Remington watched as Aatu walked over to him showing respect and listened as he spoke nodding to him. " Morning Aatu, It is pretty tough seeing who would be best where, but its also easy. It is harder to decide a rank for someone when they are good in more than one thing." Then he saw Dakota trot on over and sit by him he looked to him and nodded, "Having fun there? It looks like though she might be upset you left I think she was having fun." A chuckle came out of Remington as he said that. It made Remington glad that there were other males, because he could joke around and talk man to man to them.

Remington rose his head high as he saw Velvet making her way over to him, as she showed her affection Remington was a little surprised and intrigued inside. Velvet did not seem to worry about the other wolves around them and was great at showing how she felt. Velvet was a bit different and he liked that a lot, his eyes followed her as she had walked around him then sat to his side bumping his chin and resting her paw on his. Boy was he lucky he thought. He started to lick her cheek and nuzzle her with his as he sniffed taking in the scent she gave off. He then started to lick under her chin to her chest still rubbing his head up against where he had licked. If Velvet was going to show her affection he might as well, and besides he liked this kind of stuff he found it fun and he loved it. If he could he would spend all day everyday showing her his affection, but other things did have to be done. He lifted his head eyes glowing with happiness, "Hey there lovely, I hope all this attention your getting isn't to overwhelming" He smirked teasing nudging her with his shoulder as then his attention was drawn to the male Kade had greeted.

Remington stood shaking out his fur and looked to Velvet licking her nose and walking over to the male, "I am Remington, alpha male this is our new pack, are you traveling or looking for a group to join to travel with? If you would like to join you are most welcome to we are all quite friendly." Remington nodded to the male and when turning and looking back at Aatu, Velvet, and Dakota he saw Dakota gazing upon something and followed the direction in which he was looking and saw in sort of hidden was another wolf, smelled female. Remington though about going over, but though it best to let her come out when she felt comfortable. He heading back to Velvet's side and spoke for everyone to hear, "Could everyone please come and gather over here for a bit I would like to announce maybe some positions, and maybe discuss are plans for when we head off on our journey."

Remington had been so caught up that he had not realized they had not even started on the way to the Valley of Hope, and that place was already a great distance away. He was ready to take the wolves to the land of sanctuary and ready to start a life he never thought he would have.

Kade's ears perked up as she heard Remington announce that they were assigning positions and getting read to go. She was ready to get out of here and far, far away from this forest. And she was hoping to be a beta. That, too. The she-wolf padded over to where he stood, sitting facing him, a slight distance away.

Heat spread across RIver's skin as she realized that Dakota was looking at her. He'd probably caught her staring. Embarrassed, she looked away, then joined the others as they began to group up around Remington. She was excited about positions as anyone, though she knew she wouldn't get a high one. Kade or Dakota for beta, she was almost certain, and she'd be a warrior or hunter or something more in the middle.

Dakota walked over to Kade and sat down beside her. "Excited to officially be beta?" He smiled, nudging her. In his old pack, his parents were alphas and his oldest brother was beta. He was simply a hunter; along with most of his siblings. He glanced at Rivers, then watched Remington, waiting for ranks.

Cyber looked at Velvet. "I heard you were a pup sitter in your old pack," she stated. "So was I, it was a lot of fun seeing the young ones grow up." Cyber looked at the ground sadly. "One year, the winter was horrible and there were constant blizzards through the day and night, we lost a whole litter. There were five of them," Cyber looked back up at Velvet and smiled. "This pack will be a fresh start," she said, smiling. She looked at Remington, anxious for the ranks.

As the gray wolf Nova now knew as Raoula walked to join the pack of wolves Nova heard what the Alpha male, Remington, had told the other new wolf, Lyall?, that any could join and they would soon be deciding on ranks. Looking around Nova saw the brown female she had seen earlier and a gray and white male wolf. Approaching the brown she-wolf, the gray-white male called Kade, Nova studied her more closely while listening to the gray wolf confirm her earlier thoughts.

This female wants to be beta, but so do I, Nova thought. I do not know how the alphas are going to choose ranks. Are they going to let the wolves that disagree fight? Or will they assign ranks even though they do not personally know some of the wolves here? Shaking of her thoughts Nova sat next to Kade and the gray and white male, dislodging Ro from her back. Curling her tail around her paws like a big hunting cat, Nova introduced herself. “I am Nova and the magpie is my traveling companion Ro.", she said with a sigh as Ro once again landed on her head, he seemed to be getting protective around the new wolves. Nova raised her ears forward looking both of the wolves in the eye stating her dominance with body language. After the introductions Nova focused her attention on the many wolves gathered in the clearing. Nova had introduced herself showing herself to be competition for the brown wolf and Kades reaction to that introduction would tell Nova a lot about the former alpha. Will she act with aggression or with good humor at the prospect of competition?, Nova wondered while watching the wolves in the clearing.

Most were females and a few where unattached males. Nova looked at the males admiringly, it was a new experience for her, to see the male wolves sit peacefully with the females. The ones she had met during her time as a loner had tried to force themselves on her expecting her to give in because of her small stature. Most had left with terrible scars, while a more unrelenting male had not left with his life. Nova had never tolerated bullies and except for her mentor and a few others, most of the wolves she had met on her travels had been evil for lack of a better word; they had hunted for fun, not food and preyed upon those weaker then themselves, even pups. Nova growled at the memories her thoughts had brought to the surface, she had experienced more in that month as a loner then most wolves experienced their whole lives. As a result she was less inclined to trust, wolves had to fight and earn her friendship. To become her mate would be just that much harder... though if a male did find his way there, he would be loved dearly.

Nova felt the emptiness that filled her heart caused by the loss of her mentor, the family she never knew and the horrible crimes wolves did to their own kind in the name of survival after the huge earthquake. The thought that this pack could hold the same honest values as herself boggled Nova’s mind. Could she find a home with this pack or would they turn out to be like the others she had seen?

Velvet’s appearance

Velvet sat happily as Remington returned her show of affection, leaning into him with a smile. She chuckled at his comment and winked at him. ”I’m pretty sure you’ve realised by now that I love attention.” She glanced over at Kade, remembering their conversation, and nudged her mate. ”I was thinking about it, and since our pack’s beginning to form and everyone’s getting to know each other it might be time to assign ranks. I assume if anyone’s unhappy they can confront each other and fight over it, but it might help our stability as we travel if for now everyone knows each other’s standings.” She looked at him, wondering his thoughts on what she’d said, then continued after a short pause, ”I was thinking Kade might make a good beta. Her experience as a previous alpha is invaluable, and everyone seems to automatically respect her dominance during hunts. What do you think?”

After Remington moved from her side, Cyber came over to talk to the femme. She grinned at her words, ”Yes, I was a pup sitter. It’s always nice to have something in common with someone! I just love playing with pups and teaching them the ways of the world while the pack is out hunting. Early learning is the most important thing to ensure a wolf grows up properly. Plus, they’re adorable.”

Her brow creased at what happened to Cyber’s pack in the past. She frowned, ”I’m really sorry to hear that. It’s awful when these things happen.” She fell silent for a moment as she remembered her own pack. She still couldn’t talk about them, the wound too fresh, but she remembered each and every one of them. A small, sad smile graced her features as she looked down, remembering. They’d not been a large pack, so the loss of three pups in their worst year had been a disaster to them. Winters didn’t hit the pack as hard as large packs with many mouths to feed, but some years had still been tough on them.

”Yes,” she agreed, voice soft, ”Sometimes a fresh start is the best thing given the circumstances.” Remington reappeared at her side and called everyone’s attention. Some of the tension that had rippled through her at the memories drained away, her mate’s presence reassuring. Things always happened for a reason. That’s what her parents had taught her. Whatever the reason was for her pack being wiped out she didn’t know, but the chain of events had led her to this group of wolves and to Remington. She wasn’t happy about how this new pack had come about, but she was ecstatic with the company she now had. She looked up at Remington, trusting his judgement for ranks and waiting to hear what he had to say.

Remington gently nibbled on Velvet's ear after she said she loved attention, and smiled, "No worries I have decided on positions and agree on Kade. If anyone ends up unsatisfied with their position they are to fight and display their dominance against each other, we will watch and supervise the duel to make sure things don't get to carried away, but one one submits to the other the dominant assumes the position." Remington grinned at Velvet, "You got it pretty easy didn't you now? " He winked to her as he stood and greeted the new female saying something along the same lines as he did to Lyall. He was not sure what it was, but it was something about Nova that made him feel angry inside, but he ignored it and went back to sit down by his mate.

"I have chosen positions and want to let you all know that if you are unhappy with your rank or want something else please talk to me in private. If you would like the rank of lead hunter, or beta it is a fight that decides that with the eyes of the alphas watching you. Just because you might win a fight might not make you a beta or lead hunter. (see chat thread for your position) with that announced and out of the way speak now if you want to challenge for beta or lead hunter position. If you are not interested and are happy with your rank feel free to relax, watch, sleep or anything you wish!" As Remington finished up speaking he pressed himself up against his mate and then yawned laying himself down on the dirt of the Earth. The day was very humid and hot and made him uncomfortable so laying in the dirt would help a little.

As Remington lay there waiting for the pack responses and he flicked his ears and tail swatting away flies and throwing up dirt to try and stay cool. He nipped at Velvet's paws playfully as the heat and the dirt and the moment put him in a playful mood. As he nipped at her paws and her side he then started rolling around showing his fluffy underbelly to her, tail wagging teasing her. He continued to roll around and then stood shaking out his fur causing a dust and dirt cloud to surround him.

Sollux || Male || 4 years, 2 months || Currently Deemed Hunter

Sollux listened. Hunter? He thought for a moment. He supposed it might fit him, him enjoyment of the quite, which surrounded the beginning of the hunt. Though, he always got a big rush from fighting. He loved it, for some reason, weather it be because it released his anger, or gave him pride in protecting something. He decided he'd speak with the Alpha. Maybe not to opt out, big to give it a try, and make sure that switching later on would be alright.

For now, Sol would wait to see if anyone challenged the head positions for the ranks. He would speak to the Alpha once that was all sorted out. Rising to stand, he turned and went to set beneath a tree, where he watched the shadows of the leaves dance, years perked and listening around.

After a moment, the brown shaded wolf let his gaze flitter about the females. They all seemed rather nice to him, big he wanted to really get to know some of them, along with other members of the pack. His mix-matched eyes found themselves on a female who he believes is named Rivers, from his observations. He rose once more to go sit by her, though his optics rest on the Alpha.

"Hello," he began, his voice calm and soft, "I am Sollux. Forgive me bothering you, but I feel the need to mix and mingle with the members of the pack. I thought you might like some company, yes?" A slight chuckle emitted from him, and he let his eyes drift to her. Hopefully she would not deny his attempts of conversation. "What does your name happen to be?" He concluded himself quickly, as he had forgot the etiquette of asking her name in return.

Kade || Female || 5 years || Beta female

Kade didn't even bother to bristle as some other female came up into the clearing, announcing herself as Nova, and apparently thinking she should be the beta. It was obvious in her slightly over-dominant stance. With a yawn, the she-wolf stood and stretched, then flashed a grin to Nova. It was not a threatening grin, but rather, the grin of one who was confident in their own abilities. She was ecstatic that she had been chosen as the beta. Even though she'd known it was going to happen, it was still exciting, and brought back a wave of memories as being chosen as the beta of her home pack.

Of course, she would be expected the take a mate, even though she didn't really want one, because the pack did need a beta male and a female, just like both male and female alphas were needed. She was Rivers and another male, Sollux, if she remembered correctly, speaking, and for some reason, a tsunami of affection for everyone in her new pack hit her. She was happy to be here and happy to be with these wolves.


Rivers || Female || 3 years || Scout

Rivers nodded in greeting to Sollux. She was happy for Kade. Even though she'd known the other female was going to be the beta, it was still nice to have it announced. "Hello, Sollux. I believe we've met before, but I am Rivers," she said, flashing him a quick smile. "And it is nice to have company, really." Somehow her mind wandered to Dakota, though. He was the lead hunter and most likely would have become the beta had Kade not been there. She wondered if there had ever been a choice before Kade, if before they'd returned from hunting, they'd lost another beta. And she wondered if Kade intended to take a mate. Her age set her apart from most of the males in the group and it wouldn't be good for an older wolf like herself to have a mate several years her junior. As far as she could tell, the beta was five years old, and she felt that may have been a reasons she wasn't actually the alpha. Alphas needed to be younger; older alphas needed younger betas and vice versa.

Luna || Female || 1 yr. 1 month || Pup

As every wolf around her gathered around the alphas to hear where they stood in the pack Luna remained in the shadows. She did not care for the older wolf activities of ranks. Luna lay herself down watching leaves on the trees in the distance dance along in the wind. A she looked at all the wolves in the pack she was not sure of a couple. She had to blame herself though for not caring to meet any of them or care. She didn't want to meet any new wolves she liked the few she met at first she wasn't interested in really meeting any others.

Luna was just tired her eyes felt super heavy, but she kept trying to stay awake to make sure she wouldn't miss anything. Not like she would miss much though, her rank was pup.....was from the start of the pack and will be for another year.

Dakota | Male | 2 years old | Lead Hunter

Dakota heard his rank, and was proud. In his old pack, he wouldn't even compare to the lead hunter. It was his older brother, he was a large and strong wolf; same as the beta. To them, Dakota was simply a hunter, a young wolf who still had plenty to learn. His mother would be proud if she were still around. Death didn't really bother him. Of course he was sad and missed them, but he wouldn't let their death ruin his life. He wanted to focus on carrying on the bloodline and starting a new family. He didn't want to dwell on the past but focus on a good and safe life for his future pups.

He looked around at his pack, smiling. He felt happy. He knew this group wouldn't be like his old family, but it was a safe place. He looked at Kade, then at Rivers. He saw a male talking to her and got slightly jealous. He was tempted to go and talk to them, but instead approached Remington. "It's finally starting to feel like a real pack," he stated. "I hope this isn't inappropriate, but have you thought of pups?" He watched for his reaction, but couldn't help but glance at Rivers every once in a while.

Cyber | Female | 3 years | Pup Sitter

Cyber was excited to be a pup sitter. She trotted over to Velvet. "So, to have a pup sitter, you need pups..." She smiled at Velvet. "Have you thought about pups? I bet they would be beautiful," she nudged her playfully. She knew Velvet loved the little ones. She looked over at the pup, who seemed bored. Cyber decided that she should get to know her. She walked over to the little one and layed down. "Boring?" She asked, chuckling. She felt bad for the pup; it must be terribly boring here. "Later tonight, if you want, we could maybe chase fireflies. I used to do that a lot with the pups in my old pack." She watched her, waiting for a reply. She glanced at the group, seeing Velvet and Remington, when suddenly a thought came to mind, Cyber hasn't even thought about finding a mate.
