Jack looked down at Kade, disbelief civering his face. They were on a mission, they still had to make sure the club was vacant of any stray vampires. "Kade, no." He said, firmly. He dragged her outside.

Kade giggled slightly as she was taken outside. She was aware of her drunkenness and took out her stele. "I have a glyph for this," she said, though it took her about five tries to get it right on the inside of her wrist. Her head cleared immediately. "Okay. This won't last more than a few hours and the effects get weaker and weaker as I redo it. Sorry about that."

"We are still completing our mission." Jack said as he whirled on Kade. "I don't care how long the effects of the mark, or alcohol last. I care that the mundanes are safe, and the vampires keep to their word." Jack almost screamed. He didn't have time for such childness when people were in danger. He may not show it all the time, but he cares.

Kade growled, a rather inhuman sound back in her throat. "If they're gone, the mission is done, Jack," she snarled. "I care just as much as you do if not more. My grandparents -" Her voice broke. "Just . . . No one should ever have to suffer like that. And even seeing vampires is enough to give me flashbacks sober so I drink. And because I drink, I invented a glyph to sober me up, at least for a bit. So let's get this goddamn mission done so I don't have to care anymore." Everything about her had gone from absolutely fine to incredibly angry to some sort of depression. "I care too much sober."

"Caring makes us human!" Jack yelled back at the girl. And then, quieter, "Our mission isn't over until we see no vampire on the premises. We have to look around, not drink our problems away. I have lost people to demons and downworlders too. All shadowhunters have, so don't think that its a problem you need to keep pent up in your mind." Jack said, and stormed off. He placed his glamour back on. He walked to the back of the building to see if any stray vampires had stayed behind.

Kade finched. Tears were already streaming down her face but she scrawled a mark on her arm to make her look somewhat like she was fine and went back inside. She slipped through the dancers and to the door in the back. She saw the note from the vampires and scanned over it.

Jack saw splatters of blood on the cement in the back of the building. There was no way of telling if it was human or animal, and Jack wasn't in the mood to check. He didn't see anything other than a few rats running around. He went around the whole building, and nothing. He started walking back to the institute. Kade can find her own way, he thought to himself.

Kade walked through the rest of the building and found nothing, so she left. She had money for a cab, she hadn't spent it all on booze, so she got one to the Institute. "Keep the change," she told the cabbie and got out once they were there. The effects of her glyphs was fading, so it was evident she'd been crying and she was stumbling slightly, but she made it to her room, where she got the bottle of Crown she kept and started drinking again. The door was locked and her stiff was put away, but she had her grandparent's photo album out and was going through it.

Jack made it to the institute in good time. When he entered he saw what a mess there was. Drawings covered the walls. He followed them to the dinning room to find the table flipped and all the plates and ceramics broken. His mouth hung open in horror. He was speechless. "Cy-CYLENA!" He yelled. He was having a crappy night already, he didn't need this. He paced in circles, thinking of what to do. His parents weren't home, but they would be in a few days, and they might come back early. Jack walked to the training room and threw daggers. Just about all of them hit bulls eye.

Kade was crying by the time she finished looking at the album. The last picture was her, standing between her grandparents. All of them had their arms around each other and they were just about to start packing for the trip to England. It was their last picture - that night, they'd gone on what was supposed to be their last mission. And they were killed.

Five minutes later, she was drunk but had stopped crying. Shakily, she pulled herself up and decided she should go apologize to Jack. Kade followed the sound of knives hitting home to the training room and just watched for a moment, waiting until he ran out of knives and had to collect them from the board to speak. "I'm sorry about earlier," she finally said.

Jack didn't say anything. He just kept on throwing the knives. When he ran out, he went to go fetch them. Some of the knives landed on the outsides of the target, but others landed right in the middle. Jack had a scowl on his face from beginning to end.

Kade was not at all deterred by Jack's silence. If anything, it made her more willing to speak. "It just hurts so much. All the time," she continued. "Tomorrow, they'll have been gone a whole month. And my parents don't even care. They just sent me to live here, like that will just make it better. Like getting attached to another family is the answer because what happens when you die, or your parents? Maybe it isn't so bad for my dad but what about my mom? They raised her and she didn't even go to their memorial service."

She was crying again, tears leaving tracks along her cheeks before falling to her pants legs unchecked, but she kept on. "And I've been on fourteen missions since but nothing helps. I wake up at four in the morning and I can't just sit there and think I have to get up and do something or I break. I drink myself to sleep so I don't have time to lie there in the dark. I have to keep myself busy and I have to act like it's okay because everyone has lost someone and they can go on so why can't I?!"

Cylena watched Kade enter, noticing her unstable state and balance. She wondered about it for a while, but shrugged and forgot it. A little while later, she heard a second entrance. A few minutes later confirm it was Jack, when he yelled; he had found her scene. She fluttered out to where he was, the training room, and hovered beyond the doorway, her feet a few inches from the ground and wings a blur. Kade was there, but he seemsd to be ignoring her.
