Updates!

Cub Mortality:
About a year ago we made this poll:

b3thqz.jpg

Fertility was introduced and you guys had a long time since then to get used to the thought of Cub Mortality coming. We took the time to flesh out the mechanics and make it as fun as possible for active, attentive players, and scary enough for those who tend to neglect their lions.

We wanted to give that feature a bit of the natural, wildlife feeling. Lioden is a Lion sim-RPG, not a breeding pet site, and we know you guys wanted some realism. Lion cubs in Africa tend to die or get injured. A lot. This can be either scary or fun, depending on how you view the outcomes, however we wanted to make sure this will give players enough of a safety feeling, if they pay enough attention. Just like in any game, you need to tend to your animals in order for them to be happy.

Cubs won't die randomly. There will be always a way to have your most prized cubs protected ALL the time, and fully.

Broodmothers

Broodmother is a lioness designed to be a nanny to chosen cubs. This means she will not be able to be traded, transferred or go hunting, and will be able to protect up to a total of 5 (6 if Nurturing personality) cubs. When a broodmother protects a cub, it means that that cub has a 100% chance of survival, thanks to the lioness' watchful eye. Every day she protects these cubs she will gain EXP and lose a bit more mood, so you better pay enough attention to your babysitter! Broodmothers CAN breed. They can be nesting.
- You can have 1 Broodmother per 10 territory, rounded up. Meaning, if you have 13 territory, you can have 2 Broodmothers.
- You can attach or detach cubs to protect from her page - you can do it once a day only, to prevent endless boosts for both cubs and the broodmother.
- The moment cub is attached it gets 100% on Survival Bar. It will also get a cooldown and cannot be removed until the next rollover.
- The moment cub is detached, its bar drops to 60-70%. It will get a cooldown and will not be able to be protected again until the next rollover.
- Anything that removes Broodmother from her function such as running, death or freezing, it will set her protected cubs at 70% and they no longer will be protected.
- Mutations such as Blind and Eyeless do not stop a lioness from being a Broodmother.
- Removing Broodmother from her function will set her on a cooldown and she won't be able to become one until next rollover. You can only remove that function if she currently is not protecting any cubs.

Cub Survival bar
The bar is right below Lion Stats and all cubs are born with 100%. If cub is not protected by Broodmother, it will drop daily by random, but not unpredictable amounts (5-20%). Below a certain level, you might get random and fun RPG messages upon rollover that this cub has done something silly to injure itself, wandered off and alike. This will give you an idea that maybe it's time to protect your cub. Your risk if you choose to ignore it.
What boosts the bar daily?
- Interacting/Using Toys/Play All tool.

Survival Bar

brood.png - Means lioness is a Broodmother.
unprotected.png - Means cub is unprotected, but above 40% threat.
danger.png - Means cub is under 40% and at risk of dying in a wildlife accident.
Cub without any icons is fully safe.

The deaths
This is important: Your cubs will NOT die randomly. They are at a risk when their bar is below 40% and it keeps rising if the bar keeps dropping. Cubs will generate a message upon rollover if the bar dropped enough to cause a lethal situation. A random RPG message will be generated and you will learn how your cub died. It will not be stored in your dynasty.

hornbill.png
This item called "Hornbill Majordomo" worth 200 SB in Monkey Shop will boost your chosen cub's Survival Bar to 100%.

All cubs start today at 100% survival. You do not have to worry today or even tomorrow yet. Just take time and give it a try, click around, to see how it works.

Cubs that reach 1 year no longer need protection and become adols without the Survival Bar, and your Broodmother frees her slot. We will focus on adols being useful in near future ;)

Cubs in trades
Their survival bar will go down normally every rollover - they won't die in a trade, but if the bar is low and cub is traded, the buyer might risk a lot if they don't raise it in time before rollover.

Come on, guys. This update has been around for only a day. Give it a chance. (:
Besides, I do believe that the admins will continue to improve this new function (like many other things too)... Nothing is permanent.

Loving this update, adds to the realism! Curious though as to why cubs that are still with their mothers need a broodmother too?

if they want to curb the cub booming maybe they need to stop releasing so many markings almost every week? I mean that is encouraging it.. plus I agree with what others have said... there needs to be a new poll... everyone should have a say in this... you shouldn't go off what was said a year ago...

Loving this update! The new bases and manes are great and it only took me a minute or two to assign a brood mother, easy peasy! :D

Maybe for people that aren`t so keen on it we could have a on/off button? Although to be fair I`m slightly surprised at everyone whining about this as I`m finding it a nice add on to the game :)

I agree with the stopping releasing a new marking every week - it means the market rises and falls really quickly. However I do like this addition. Maybe it will convince people who don't have the time to look after 50 cubs at once to stop breeding so many lionesses

Honestly it seems pretty unfair to ask them to stop releasing markings as often. If people didn't try to be so greedy all the time there would be less of a problem. But everyone is so gung ho to be the first to have something or the the best. Stop trying to one up your fellow player and just enjoy the game. Don't spend 100 gbs on one cub because of one marking and you won't get salty when that marking becomes outdated in a week or two. I feel by them releasing markings often it keeps it so that no one marking becomes so coveted people start getting really nasty about it. Quit whining about a game that someone has worked so hard to create. It's freakin' rude. If you don't like the game that much, stop playing. It doesn't matter if you've spent "real money" on it. That's on you, no one made you do it. If you hadn't noticed by now Lioden wasn't made special for one person.

Sorry about the rant Xy. It makes me so upset to see people complain about something you've worked so hard on, completely ungrateful. I love the game and this update!

I love the game;
The stop making markings every week is a bit silly;
I personally do not breed for markings as such;
I always keep 1 or 2 cubs I breed from one lioness;
and I have found it easy looking after them all;
I do not have like 50 cubs in one den;
I would make sure I had room for them If not then adopt them out cheaply;
even if the markings are in demand I will still have a adoption fee for 50 SB;
People should enjoy the game alot more then worry they do not have the best markings ^^
I love this game update;
It gives my 7+ lioness to be nannys :)

see and thats the problem... everyone "cries" oh the cub market is being flooded.. but when someone speaks up its shot down.. then maybe everyone needs to stop bitching that the market is being flooded? hm?

I know we will all adjust.. and I like a few others are on the fence on this.. I like the realism.. but im worried for those that are just starting the game.. if i have this correct you need 10 spaces to have one brood mom... now this may be different now then when I started but it took me 2 weeks to get 10 territory slots... that can be a long time.

I don't think there's anything wrong with releasing markings often. (If you released markings less often you'd see the same thing happen - people go gaga over the newest marking for a week or two, then once it spreads out it will lose its appeal. Newness and relative scarcity will always drive people to want something.)

I've already posted my thoughts on the topic, but to all the people who are saying "HA! Now you'll have to downsize or deal with it!" - that feels a bit shortsighted and rude. Not everyone has the same playstyle as you. Actually, I think forcing people to choose to keep a potentially smaller lair to keep their cubs safe is going to hurt lioden, because these people might have otherwise expanded their pride (spending GB to do it), perhaps spent SB/GB to keep them all fed (through buying more food and possibly the feed all feature), spent more time/money getting decor for their big dens... Now they're just keeping their prides smaller, it could lead to a loss of revenues. Not everyone is going to go "duh I should just buy the play all / feed all button!" Many won't. Some people might outright quit.

I think Lifeon had a good post on pg 12 that outlined why people hold on to their cubs for dear life and try to sell them instead of just chasing them off. There's just a very high cost to pregnancies. 60SB or so per nest, a stud fee (or the initial outlay to get the exact king you want and like!), an extra 60SB if you want to check for mutations... so yeah, then people end up trying to sell all their cubs, even the not-so-good ones, because you end up losing a lot of money on the pregnancies. It might not seem like a big deal to more established players, but it can be a drain to newer players, for instance. I guess the response is "stop breeding so much then!" but that doesn't change that this happens each breeding you do choose to do. Note, I don't think this broodmother feature factors into a monetary cost here so much as a time-consumption one.

Anyway, once again to reiterate, I think this new feature is just more of a chore than an actual hindrance and I think we'll all survive its implementation :p, I just question its gameplay value when it comes to things like fun or entertainment (which, ultimately, is what I want in a browser game).

ah yes very good point clocks... I didnt think about that one *sighs* the sad part is you cant please everyone.. unless we find a middle ground.. maybe this is it? maybe it isnt.. I myself dont stud outside of my prides and my breeding partners... most cubs I either keep or chase. but I dont stud due to reason stated from Lifeon. I explore for all my feathers and stagger the breeding times so I have enough feathers. but me personally I dont have the time to sit on here and go through the 20 cubs I have.. im a stay at home mom with 3 kids and 3 huskies so I do have to agree while it is a neat and cool feature.. it can be a chore for those with no time x.x
