Private RP between myself and 32475

Star Log
Date: April 3rd, 2537
Mission: To scout for new worlds
Number of Occupants: 100 Crew
Log Author: James Grant
Months ago, we launched into space on a scouting mission for a new world to plant Earth residents on. Our own planet is dying, and we need to find a location to transfer to. The goal is to locate a planet similar to our own world. So far, we've located nothing. There have been stars, planets and suns and moons, but nothing of suitable living. The mission has grown desperate, and I fear that my sister and I will never find a place to truly call home. Will we be lost out here in space forever, I wonder? Will we ever see home? Supplies, at this time, are in a good status, but how long will they last? The past several days, we've had many emergencies, especially in the engineering room. The Core has been failing for some time now, and the causes are currently unknown. To go back to Earth would be a death sentence for us all. We must find a place to land our ship... I just hope the captain knows what he's doing....

That was the last Star Log that James would get to put in. Just as he was finishing it, the alarms began to ring, and something exploded upon the ship. It was jarring, and had him falling out of his seat with a grunt. The man shook his head a bit, stood to his feet. His sister, he had to find his sister. Over the intercoms, one could hear the captain speaking.

"This is your Captain speaking. An evacuation order has been sent out. Calmly make your way to the pods, and abandon the ship. I repeat, an evacuation order has been sent out."

Paling a bit, James was quick to sprint down the hall to the Women's quarters. He was screaming, shouting, for his sister. Where was she...? Little did they know that this would be a new start for them....

"Hmm. That'd be a useful find." She muttered, the word "find" obviously sarcastic. Honestly, Ngea was thinking of actually going up against the night-folk. Not now of course, later, when they were more prepared, but still. A bow of that sort, why it'd be like the old days. Back in her days as an elf, Ngea had been amazing with a bow, she still was, she just didn't use one as often. Now days fighting required more hand to hand combat.
She watched James move off and couldn't help but wonder where he was off to, and what he was going to do. She shook her head and continued thinking.

Adlaide, finished eating, sat back next to the fire and glanced towards the sky. "So, now what. The day has just begun, I assume there is an awful lot that needs to be done. I mean, if there's nothing that absolutely needs doing I have a few notions which could end up being extremely helpful." She looked up at Ngea then to Mordecai, her hands busily fiddling with the hem of her shirt.

Mordecai gave a small nod of agreement. His attention then turned to Adlaide as she asked her question. "You need to get some sleep. You've been without it for over twenty-four hours. We'll worry about things to be done once you've had some rest." He wasn't kidding either. He already had a young vampire sleeping upon him, her fingers curled tightly into Mordecai's fur. She'd be safe here...where she'd have the chance to regain her memories.

Adlaide grinned and shook her head. "Did you know that only two percent of people have actually died from lack of sleep? Well, at least that was what it was at six years ago." She glanced towards the sky, as though trying to do some form of math. "Ah, no, it had risen to six percent last I checked. Anyways," she took a breath, "I'll take your advice soon enough. I'm not quite tired yet. Besides, I have a clear mental image right now and I may loose it if I go to sleep now." Loosing 24 hours of sleep wasn't that bad for Addy, she'd gone longer, here and on the ship. Most of the time it had been because she was up all night reading a book or two. Besides, perhaps the tedious work of making a bolas would turn her mind off and eventually cause her to drift off to sleep. But as she said, she was far from tired and she didn't want to loose the clear mental image which was bright and clear in her head.
She started sketching in the loose soil, a loose diagram soon drawn out across three square feet of ground. There were several mathematical equations along with the drawings. She took a breath looking at it and then nodded. "No one come over here, and if you do step carefully. I'm going to need this diagram for a little while." She pulled the little grass pouch from her pocket and took out the tufts of leftover grass. She'd stuffed a few handfuls in her pockets and she had a generous amount sitting next to her. Now she began with the hand work, her fingers flew, swiftly pulling strands in and out, weaving them into some sort of rope.

Ngea wandered away from the flames, watching the young woman work with raised brows and an awed expression on her face. This human was strange, and what she did didn't always make sense. Ngea turned away from the human and stared out at the day, crossing her arms over her chest and a thoughtful expression taking over her features.

It was odd indeed... "Ngea, why don't you go find James? It's dangerous for him to be out on his own..." Mordecai then advised. He could stay and hold the fort with Addy. She looked to be quite smart, and she was extremely beautiful. Not that he'd go admitting this just yet...for quite some time anyway. Besides, he had to look after Ngea and make sure that James was truly a proper man.

Ngea nodded, she had just been thinking that herself. She shifted into a wolf and moved off swiftly, tracking his scent easily. Her nose to the ground she followed the trail, her ears pricked listening for sounds, her eyes lifted searching the brightness ahead.

Adlaide continued to work, her eyes rarely leaving the intricate drawing on the ground. To make the bolas, she wanted to make sure the strength of the rope was just right, but it would have to still be fairly light and flexible yet strong enough to hold the heavy stones. She paused in her work, just long enough to take a breath and stare up at the gorgeous sky.

James was a good ways off, easy to find for Ngea, but hard for anyone else. He often made sure he left a hard to follow trail. WOlves, though, had a knack for tracking it seemed. The man was currently up in the silverwood tree, and looking over several of the branches it held. Some were to thick, others to thin. Some weren't heavy enough, and some were to light. Bows were a delicate balance, one that often was not found quite right...

"Adlaide, are you well?" Mordecai then asked softly. Was she doign alright? She seemed to be rather...lost? Was that the correct term?

Ngea stared up the base of the tree, her eyes scanning the trunk. "Lower branches work better for bows. If that's what you're thinking. They are more flexible than the higher branches, and if shaped correctly, can be very powerful even if fairly small." Her approach had been silent, and she realized now that she could have startled him out of the tree. Luckily she hadn't, he wasn't faint of heart it seemed.
Strangely enough this made her feel more confident in their ability to reclaim this planet from the throes of darkness.

Adlaide blinked and glanced towards Mordecai. "Perfectly fine. I just keep wondering what sort of gasses make up the atmosphere of this planet, to make the sky look that way. It's such an intriguing question I can't help but coming back to the subject every once in a while. Even though I should really continue working on other projects."
Her hands got back to work, though she continued peering up towards the sky. It was so enchanting, and when the earth seemed peaceful, lulled a person into a false sense of serenity.

James did feel a slight spook, yes, but he wasn't one to jump and fall down. That was more of his sister, whom he had usually played pranks on just to see her startle. Sometimes it even gave her the hiccups. That was something to laugh at, though it was now in the past more than likely. To do something like that here probably wouldn't be smart.

"Huh? Ah, you think so? ... I suppose I haven't even looked at them. To be hoenst, I've always watched people make bows, but never have I done one myself. So this'll be interesting." He'd only take what he needed, of course, seeing that this planet seemed to be symbiotic. The last thing the man wanted to do was harm the poor tree...

What on earth? He glanced up at the sky then, and shrugged. Gases making up the atmosphere...? It made some sense, he supposed, not that he'd truly know. These people honestly likely enver would know nor understand. It was just something that would take time and, well, a lot of knowledge to learn.

"I see...what do you think of it? The colors?"

Ngea nodded, her piercing golden eyes flickering down the tree and towards the lower branches. "It's simple once you've made one or two bows. But the first one you make may not be nearly what you expect it to be. At least, that's generally how it is for most races other than elves... they kind of have a knack with bows." Unfortunately she hadn't quite inherited this knack from her elvin heritage. It'd taken her half a dozen bows to get one that would actually be a decent weapon.
"If you want any help, I've made a few bows in my past. I wouldn't say I'm any good at it, but I know a few tricks of the trade." Before becoming a wolf-folk, one of Ngea's favorite things had been working with bows and arrows. She hadn't worked with a bow for about a year or so now, but she knew the muscle memory and would be happy to have a bow in her hands again.

Adlaide glanced back up at the sky. "It's beautiful, and even on a cloudy day at least the day isn't grey. Back home, the clouds are grey and the sky is a pale blue. On a cloudy day everything would seem do dull and downcast. Here, I couldn't imagine a cloudy day being so draining. Having a lilac covered sky wouldn't seem nearly so boring. So, yeah, I love the colors."

"It might be helpful..." the man stated softly. James soon carefully moved down a few lower branches, looked everything over a moment. He was then careful as he chose something to use, cutting away a good dozen branches or so, just in case. What they didn't use for bows could easily be used to make other things. He was quite resourceful like that. Then again, he and Adlaide were. They'd grown up in a harsh world before. Nothing quite like this, but the point still stood that they'd do what it took to survive.

"Ah yes... Stormy skies here are often green, and strangely brilliant colors. It's the darker green clouds one must often worry for... The winds that come with them are extremely damaging, and often times fatal... Emerald whirls, we call them." Mordecai chuckled a bit at the name for their tornadoes, but to them? It made sense.

Ngea changed from her wolf form and started to ascend into the tree, pausing every now and then to glance around at the branches. This tree was a good candidate to pick a bow branch, there was no sickness in it, and most of the branches were fairly straight and strong.
Her shoulder ached some, but she ignored it as she rose high amongst the branches. Eventually she stopped and leaned against the trunk watching as James moved about. "I'll be sure to grab a few handful of these leaves, they make a good healing tea, and balm." She ran her fingers along the delicately colored trunk, the bright silvery bark shining in the light of the sun.

Emerald whirls. She raised one brow and shared a laugh with Mordecai. Such a strange name for a thing, emerald whirls. "Back home we had weather similar to that, and yeah, the sky did look a little yellowish green when tornadoes were about. Thinking back now... the sky almost looked sickly before the storms came." And now she'd know what to look for in the weather patterns, green sky meant bad weather, dark green clouds meant tornadoes. That was, erh, emerald whirls.

"Might be a good idea... Adlaide is really good at making tea. You could ask her if you need a hand with it," he commented then. The man knew well that aid could be useful in this place. It'd make friends and plenty of enemies...but regardless, it would be a great aid. "Tell me... What else lives here on this world? Is it just human...like people?" Vampires, elves, wolves...? Was that it? The truth was that this planet held deep secrets, even from some of the oldest denizens of the world.

"Ah... Tornadoes, did you say?" he questioned, sounding it out with his thick accent. It sounded funny to him. "Yes... Dark greens and blues often mean the coming of the emerald whirls..." Mordecai was curious about this place called Earth. It didn't seem that there was to much of a difference.

"No one really knows. This is one of the only regions that has been nearly completely explored. Even then, we are clueless about many things." She plucked a few leaves, very carefully, from the branches nearby, rubbing one in her fingers. The oils from the leaves would help her shoulder some.
"Aside from the species you already know about, there isn't much known about most of this planet. There are legends, numerous legends, that point to some magic that holds the place together. But, as I said, it's only legends. Personally, I don't believe most of that stuff, there's been few legends that are actually true." Ngea tipped her head sharply to one side. "There's the demons, but then again, that could just be some form of an illusion. Fire isn't that hard to make. I'm just glad we haven't run into any of those."

Adlaide nodded. "Yeah that's what we call emerald whirls, tor-na-does." She carefully set her work down, about a foot of the rope now sitting in her lap. She was a fast worker, spinning fibers into rope usually took a little bit of time. "Well, thank you for telling me that. Now I know when to take cover, if the skies green, or there are dark green clouds overhead." She fell quiet, suddenly, her mouth closing and her eyes narrowing as though a new thought had entered her head.
She jumped to her feet and snapped her fingers, eyes flying wide open, an excited gleam in the silvery depths. "I... uh... oh... hmm." She sat down once more, resting her chin on her hand, falling into a grey study. Her light brows fell over her eyes and she seemed to disappear into some realization.

"But to turn your body to fire?" He'd heard the stories from her parents... From what was said, the demons could easily be fire themselves... It was hard to tell, but what all would he know? He hardly believed in any of that stuff anyway... Well, used to. now he didn't know what to believe...

Mordecai about startled at her suddenly excitement. "What? Is something the matter?" he asked, his own train of thought soon broken b the howling once more. Another soft growl was given, and he tensed. They were much closer this time... That wasn't good...
