Masters. They have been around for many years, keeping out of the eyes of the human. To humans, a Master appears as any other human being. They simply have powers beyond those of normal humans. Then, Masters were discovered many, many years ago. Because of this, they were each given an animal to protect them once powers developed. This animal was called a Guardian. These Guardian's are always larger than their normal counterparts unless the animal is already fairly large as normal. Masters and Guardians were each given a crystal that matched. This was their connection; Masters and Guardians can speak to each other. But no Master can speak to a Guardian that is not his own, but Guardians can understand all humans.
Shortly after the creating of the Guardians, different schools were made. Just a few in the entire country. Here Masters trained to better their powers, and learn to fight with their Guardian in battle. But, again the humans found the Masters. Much was done to conceal their identities, but nothing worked. The government waged war. All schools were set to be destroyed. The government succeeded. In most schools, everyone was killed. But at one, two Masters and two Guardians made it out alive. This is their journey.

Trevor's face spread into a large, evil grin at Adysin's beg. This he could use for his advantage, make her give him something he wanted. Well, those where his thoughts when Ryder formed an ice ball that smashed into pieces in his face. "What the fuck... Fuck you, little bitch!" he cursed, bringing his hands to his face where blood spilled from serval cuts. There were gasps around them, and now Adysin knew that everyone was staring at them. Her heart leaped to her throat as she looked around. The people stared at them in horror, mostly looking at Ryder who was still twirling a water ball in the air. "So you're a freak like her? Go to hell, both of you!" he continued. At first people stayed back but then people started coming towards them. Adysin began to panic, still frozen in place. Anger flashed in her eyes as she glanced at Ryder, why had she done that? Now they were caught and no doubt would someone call the police who would inform the FBI about Masters. Everyone was afraid of them, Adysin could tell. They were hesitant, but they definitely were coming. "Ryder... what in the name of God were you thinking!" Adysin growled as she swung her backpack over her shoulder. In a fit of anger, Adysin grabbed hold of Ryder's arm and pulled her backwards. Pulling Ryder behind her, Adysin stood in front of Trevor and punched him straight into the face. Adysin could hear the satisfying crunch of breaking bones, and a smile flashed briefly over her face. Boy did it feel good to punch that man. Adysin did the only thing she could think of next m, she dodged the people and ran towards Annabel who was watching everything happen. Crouching down in front of her Adysin whispered, "Do you trust me?" Annabel stared up at her with big eyes and nodded. Adysin stretched out her hand and when Annabel took her hand, she held onto her for dear life. For a moment she just stood there, embracing the girl in her arms, a small tear of joy running down her cheek. No way was she capable of taking care of a child, but being with her was a million times better than being with Trevor. Annabel hugged her mother back, as if understanding the situation. Then Adysin ran out of the bank, pausing only at the door to see if Ryder would follow.

At Trevor's reaction, Ryder grinned. But then the reality of the situation hit and people started closing in on them. When she was yanked backward, Ryder's concentration was gone and the ball of water hit the floor. Then Adysin was in front of her and swinging a fist at Trevor. Ryder was shocked but happy at the same time. Ryder watched as Adysin ran to her daughter. While Adysin was hugging her, Ryder bolted forward, dodging around people. Just as Adysin stopped to see if she were following, Ryder caught up. "Come on! Go!" Ryder ran through the door and cut back towards the small farm house they had come from. As she ran, she kept looking over shoulder, checking for Adysin and the kid. "We have to get to Adamaris and Zayden, and then get out of here!" Ryder didn't know where they would go. Where could they go? Two Masters and a small child. All Ryder knew was that she didn't regret hitting Trevor like that. She would never regret getting some form of payback on one of the men who had hurt Adysin.

Adysin ran blindly through the streets, not really paying attention to the people around her. She knew they were staring, but all she could do was smile. With Annabel in her arms, she felt as though she had accomplished the greatest thing on earth. She felt as though the one true purpose of her being was to dedicate her life to this girl, to give her everything she could. Perhaps if she was lucky she wouldn't remember Trevor. When they reached the shed she threw the door open to find Adamaris staring at her with wide eyes. "Don't question it." she said quickly as she placed Annabel down on the ground next to Adamaris. Oh having her would make their travel a lot harder, but they needed to get out of here as soon as possible. "Where can we go?" Adysin asked Ryder, throwing some of the things that had fallen from her bags back into them. She threw them onto her back, grabbed her weapons, placed Annabel on Adamaris in front of her little pack. "Annabel, hold on to her. She won't let you fall. But whatever you do, don't let go." Adysin said, leaning down to give the girl a quick kiss on the forehead. She then turned towards Ryder and stared at her with wide eyes for a moment, panic flashing through them. Adysin knew she would be able to protect them with her shield, but that was not where her panic was coming from. She didn't know where to go, and it scared the hell out of her. Adysin hated feeling this way, it was terrifying. The world was such a huge thing that knowing where to go was almost impossible, "You're not going to like this... but what about your parents?" Adysin finally said, her eyes worried and searching. Adysin felt so disoriented that all her normal behaviors were disappearing and new, stranger ones were coming in.

Ryder flew into the shed behind Adysin. Quickly packing up Zayden's pack, she reached over and snatched up the blankets. She hated to take them from the family, but they may come in handy. Throwing them across Zayden, she put his packs on top and then turned to face Adysin. The panic in her eyes scared her, but Ryder knew it would be reflected in her own. Ryder stopped for half a second, took a deep breath, and let it out, allowing herself a moment to think. Then she was hit with the mention of her parents. "You-You want to go to my parents?" Ryder was floored. She looked at the kid sat atop Adamaris and knew they had no choice. "It's about a week's travel by foot from here. We can get there, but it won't be quick or easy." The thought of going to see her parents scared the living hell out of her. She hadn't left on good terms with her mother. And even less so with her father. Even if they made it there without being caught, there was no promise they would be okay there. Her father might do something drastic. But Ryder gave a sigh. There was no other choice. They had Adysin's cash and Ryder's debit card. They could make it there and provide for themselves so long as they flew under the radar. Way under the radar. Ryder glanced around the shed one last time, making sure they weren't leaving anything important. As she looked Zayden stepped in front of her. An odd look on his face. "What happened and who is the kid?" Ryder shook her head. "No time for that right now, Zayden. But you stay behind Adamaris. Keep and eye on both of them." Ryder paused and looked Zayden directly in the eyes. "Protect them." She then turned back to Adysin. "To my parents it is." Ryder walked towards the door and poked her head out. The crowd hadn't followed them here just yet. But she knew they couldn't be too far off. "Let's go." She held open the door, an odd calm over her.

It was obvious to Adysin that Ryder was not very happy with the suggestion to go to her parents. She knew that it would be hard for her, but Adysin also knew that she needed to put the past behind them and make amends with her family. To her, family was the most important thing in life. Without family, you literally were no one. Adysin hadn’t had a family for the longest time, causing her to be distraught and confused, wondering around aimlessly without purpose. “I can go the distance.” Adysin said, a determined look crossing her face. Slipping on her bow, she turned towards the door that was cracked ajar. Outside stood Theon who stared at the girls with large eyes, “You’re leaving?” he asked sadly. Adysin smiled sadly at him and crouched down in front of him, running her hand through his hair quickly, “Yes. Those bad people I was telling you about, they have found us. When they come and ask if we were here, say that we were not.” When Theon nodded, Adysin stood up again and glanced around, seeing that the coast was clear. Without another look over her shoulder, she crossed the street and onto the other side, where the forest offered a nice shield. This forest went on for hundreds of miles, Adysin believed that it would lead them in the right direction and offer them some protection. Adamaris padded next to her, Annabel grabbing onto the wolf’s fur.

Ryder stared at The on as he spoke to Adysin. And once Adysin left the shed, Ryder followed after her, and Zayden after her. Zayden fell in step behind the white wolf while Ryder fell in step beside Adysin. As they walked through the forest, Ryder glanced up at Adysin. She reached over and let her fingers brush against Adysin's hand, unsure if she'd agree to the hand holding. "You alright? After all of that?" Ryder's voice trailed off and she looked at the ground. "I'm sorry about the by the way. But I was just thinking about protecting you..." Her voice was small as she spoke, but she knew it was the truth.

At the gentle touch of Ryder's hand, Adysin jerked hers away. Moments like these did not call for softness in Adysin. In the contrary, she always pushed people away and locked herself in during situations like these. "I'm fine." Adysin said, glancing towards Annabel who rode next to her. A soft smile crossed her face at the sight of the little girl, who seemed at complete peace upon the large wolf. Reaching out, she ran a hand over the girls body. For a little girl, she was rather quite. Although she was smiling at Annabel, it was obvious that she was not okay. For Christ's sake, she had begged. And Adysin never begged. But whenever she saw Trevor, everything within her broke down. The tough Adysin she had created shattered into a million pieces and she was once again the girl that cowered at his feet. Perhaps Adysin just put on a show and really wasn't strong, but Adysin would never let that thought cross her mind. "It was thoughtless." Adysin admitted as she strolled through the darkening forest. "But I know you did it for your own reasons. We were bound to leave soon anyway." she added. Adysin wanted Ryder out, away from her problems. Partly so that Ryder wouldn't have to deal with the constant pain Adysin lived in, and partly because she didn't want to open up about anything anymore. True, she had told Ryder most of her story, but she had spared her of the exact details of what they had done to her. It was too gruesome to share out loud, especially in front of a three year old. "This is Annabel, isn't it?" Adamaris questioned, causing Adysin to glanced in their direction. A small smile crossed her face and she nodded. Looking at her baby girl, she knew that she would give anything to protect her.

Ryder was slightly hurt when Adysin jerked away. She knew what had just happened had taken a toll on her. And it wasn't good to bottle things up like she was doing. Though Ryder would admit that she was guilty of it as well. She often pretended things hadn't upset or made her angry they way they did. Usually for the well-being of the one who hurt her. But Ryder wouldn't handle being told she was thoughtless. That hurt her pride a little more than it should have. Debating on whether or not she should say anything, Ryder watched Adysin look at the little girl. Without thinking of her words, she let them tumble out. "It wasn't thoughtless. I was thinking of you. Of her," Ryder gestured to Annabel. "Of what you had told me. Of how he made you act." Ryder's words were quite, she wouldn't yell in front of a child; she'd seen it happen far too many times. "And whether you like it or not, I did it because I care about you. I wanted to help. So, I did what I know how to do. I did it because I want to be here for you." Ryder ended her mini-rant with one tiny sentence, "Because I won't let you go." Ryder knew it was a lot to take in, and she half couldn't believe the words that had left her mouth. Zayden just looked at his Master. "So, you've finally spoken your mind?"

There were a few moments of silence between Adysin's words and Ryder's explosion of words. Although Ryder did not raise her voice, Adysin could hear the emotion behind them. Quite frankly, they left her kind of stunned. She paused for a moment staring at Ryder, at a loss for words. But this moment of surprise soon shifted into a blazing anger. An uncontrollable anger that made Adysin bunch her fists and her jaw grind. She knew that it was not okay to yell around children, that it distressed them, but she had to believe that Annabel understood that Adysin would never hurt her the way she had been hurt. "Don't talk about my past like you know me. You don't know me at all." Adysin began, her voice haughty, "Thinking about me my ass. Everything you have done was just so you can get in my pants. And you probably would have been lucky, but don't come to me pretending that you care about me or Annabel. I've had it up to my head with fake people, and I'm not about to let someone else do the same thing to me. I'm not falling for your words again. So you can take your act out of my face and put it somewhere else, somewhere useful. Everyone knows that I'm not worth anything, and don't act like you think differently." With every word Adysin spoke, her voice rose. To keep herself from screaming at the girl, she curled her fists so tightly that blood began to seep from the wounds her nails were making. Adysin was too much of a basket case to every be loved by anyone. Perhaps if her parents hadn't died Adysin would have come out differently, but she hadn't. Adysin was Adysin. And Adysin loved to scream, to fight, to throw things, to get angry. There wasn't anything Adysin could do about it, it was so ingrained to her to lash out at people when she didn't know what to say or do. Maybe Ryder would be able to see through all her words and notice what the true meaning of the words were, but no one had ever been able to decipher Adysin, and she would bet a whole lot of money on that no one ever would.

Ryder felt her tears well up. Did Adysin really think so low of her? Think that she wanted nothing more than a good time from her? The back of her throat got thick and she felt the tears falling down her cheeks. "You're so dense, Adysin!" Even Ryder could hear the shake in her voice; the shake of emotions and tears. "If I really thought so little of you, would I still be here? Do you honestly think I'm nothing more than someone after a one night stand?" Ryder paused for a minute, getting her voice back under control, even though tears were still falling. "You're right. I don't know your past. I only know what you've told me, and I'm sure details were spared. But I know enough to know what kind of person he was. I know enough to know that she doesn't need to be around him." Ryder paused again. How could she get through to Adysin? Make her understand that she wasn't trying to use her. That she actually did care about her. During her pause, Ryder glanced down and noticed the blood dripping from Adysin's hands. Ryder looked back up again, locking eyes with Adysin. "But no, you're right." Ryder's voice held a slight mocking tone. "I risked my hide to try to protect you and to protect your daughter. Of course, that means I don't care for either of you." Ryder shook her head a bit and stormed off, walking ahead of Adysin by about 10 feet. Reaching up a hand, Ryder brushed away the angry tears, trying to stop herself from falling apart. But the more she thought about it, the more tears that fell.

Adysin knew she ought to feel bad for the tears that fell from Ryder's face as she talked back to her, but she felt nothing. Adysin only felt a deep satisfaction. She was satisfied that she had made Ryder cry and angry with her, and was satisfied that she rescued her daughter from that evil man. Even if Ryder claimed that Adysin was dense, Adysin didn't feel dense. She felt as though the whole world was clearer now with Annabel by her side. But just because she could see the world clearer now, did not mean that she felt anything. No, she was still empty. "Isn't that the only thing I'm good at? At sex? In the end, everyone wants sex from me." Adysin remarked, crossing her arms across her chest. A cruel laugh escaped Adysin at the mocking tone in Ryder's voice. Oh, this bitch could try her! "Risked your life for me, for us?" Adysin repeated, an icy tone seeping into her voice. "No honey, you are the person to blame. You risked your own life so that you could use me. Need I remind you that you are the person that decided to come along with me? You are the only one to blame for your pain now, don't try to blame it on me." Adysin said coldly, her face falling into a neutral stare. This side of Adysin was scary, she could and would do anything. In fact, she looked almost exactly how Trevor did when he spoke to Adysin that way. Adysin hated herself for being like that man, but he had created this monster and there was no way getting away from it. When she looked over at Annabel, she saw that the girl was asleep. It was better that way, she didn't need to see this. "Don't you see? I'm a monster. I don't deserve love, I don't deserve happiness, I don't deserve anything because of the monster he made me. So, I'm sorry for my lack of sympathy, but frankly, I have other things to worry about and so do you." With those final words, Adysin watched Ryder stalk away from her. There wasn't much emotion in Adysin's expression, though there was a flicker of pain. She knew that she was pushing Ryder away, she knew it very well, but it had to be done.

Ryder let Adysin's words fall to silence. She kept walking forward, continuing in the direction they had been going. There was so much she wanted to say but had no idea how to say it. She let the tear keep falling. Though these were less angry at Adysin and more so at herself. Ryder thought back to the night before. Falling asleep curled at Adysin's side with her head on her chest. Ryder remembered feeling so right and wanted there. Right now, they couldn't seem further from that. And right now? That's all Ryder wanted. She didn't want to be having this fight. She didn't want to be stalking through the forest yelling at each other. Swallowing her pride a bit, Ryder spoke, her voice just above a whisper and laced with tears. "I'm sorry. But damn it, Adysin," she sighed out her name, "You're not broken. Nor are you a monster. There's so much good in you that you refuse to see." Ryder said nothing more, just walked ahead in silence. Though she did look back over her shoulder at Adysin for just a second. Ryder's tear stained face and red eyes easy to see. Turning back around, she focused on the trees ahead of her, lining a path for her.

Adysin kept walking after Ryder, her gaze fixed on the back of her head. When Ryder spoke, it was hard for Adysin to hear what she said. But when the words registered, Adysin stopped in her tracks. Was this girl blind? Of course she was broken, of course she was a monster. Only a monster would be capable of throwing people away like that and almost take pleasure in it. Only a broken person would crumble at the thought of someone laying a hand on them in the wrong way. Adysin definitely was both of those. So what did Ryder mean? But Adysin was too stubborn to ask, no way was she going to hint that Ryder had hit home a little. Everyone had always told her she was broken and worthless, and hearing someone say the opposite... it did things to your emotions. Maybe a broken person wouldn't see that they weren't broken anymore, but Adysin still was broken. She hadn't healed. Her encounter with Trevor had told her that much. "Oh but I am." Adysin said, her momentarily cracked face turning back to her blank one. But this time it wasn't a blank face with no emotion, Adysin had just sucked in all of the emotion she had and stuffed it into a bottle. In a few moments she would throw it out to see, and one would never get those emotions back. Adysin walked forward again, feeling the comforting closeness of Adamaris. And then, by some miracle, Adysin let it go. She let go of the anger she had had just a few minutes earlier, and now she was back to her empty self. She preferred herself this way. It was less complicated and it was harder to break her even more in this state. "How long did you walk in the forest when you got kicked out of the house." Adysin asked, unaware that her words might hit home in Ryder.

Ryder simply shook her head at Adysin's refusal. And Ryder made a silent vow to make her see the good in herself. By Adysin's next question, Ryder could tell that she had closed in on herself again. Locked away all those emotions. So, Ryder tried to do the same. And surprisingly, at the mention of her family, she was able to. For four long years, she had learned to face the thoughts of her parents with nothing but blank numbness. Anything else just did her no good. She spoke in a flat voice, "A long time. The rest of the night for sure. I didn't want to stop until I had put a considerable amount of distance between myself and them. "I finally stopped when I was too tired to even place one foot in front of the other. It was about dawn, I suppose." Ryder shrugged. There wasn't any supposing to it. She had relived that night many times in her dreams. And it never took much changing to turn it into one of her worst nightmares. She sighed. She didn't want to go see them. She didn't want to have to face her parents with another Master, two Guardians, and a child. What would her mom say? And her dad? What would he do? Ryder's mind only conjured the worst.

Adysin knew very well that to parents who disapproved of their daughter being a Master would have a heart attack at seeing her show up with not one Master, but a child as well. A smirk flickered over her lips at the thought of it. It would be quite amusing actually, seeing them try and pick a fight with Ryder. But Adysin wouldn't have any of it. Not only because she wouldn't have other people make fun of Ryder, but also because they would insult Adysin as well. Upon hearing the fact that they would have a while to walk, Adysin let out an annoyed sigh. Turning her head towards Adamaris she said, "Vielleicht war's nicht so klug sie so an zu brüllen." Although she tried to find sympathy, she couldn't find any. It would take weeks, perhaps months to get out of this state. "Nein war es nicht." Adamaris said simply, looking straight ahead as they continued to walk. Adysin knew that Adamaris was right, it hadn't been a smart idea to scream at Ryder the way she had, but she just couldn't bring herself to feel sorry. And she would most definitely not say sorry, that wasn't like Adysin. "Fine. I guess we should find somewhere to sleep soon." Adysin called, making sure it reached the girl who walked a few feet ahead of her.
