Lex rooted through the food he had scavenged throughout the neighborhood. His nose touched soft fur and the dog uncovered a hare he had caught hoping in the neighbor’s old yard. He hadn't done much hunting before everything changed, it had been by luck that the rabbit’s instincts of panic caused it to run right for his paws. Lex had been staying smart about his food ever since the humans left. He stores what he finds in his house and only eats a little bit everyday so he will have enough for tomorrow. Gently, lex picked up his kill and carried it into the old living room. The sound of the springs in the old couch rattled as lex jumped up onto the soft piece of furniture. Lex lay with the hare between his two front legs as he began to tear away at its soft flesh. The taste was tender and delicious in his mouth. He wasn't used to such good food, he usually only found moldy bread, or leftover hamburger meat. But this was different, it felt…...real.


Once he had finished with his rabbit he cleaned his mouth of its blood and trotted out to the streets to search for something useful and maybe find a drink of water. He was growing quite thirsty.

Ji explored her new refuge, sniffing around for any scraps of food that may have been left over. A sent caught her attention, it was stale, but near. She followed it with her nose to the ground until she came to a trash can filled to the brig with strange human stuff. She nosed it to see if it would move without her having to use any effort. It didn't budge. She frowned and wrinkled her nose at the thought of having to root through all that garbage. But then she thought about all the cool stuff she might find and perked up immediately. She took a few steps back before she lunged at the trash can and rammed into it with her shoulder. The trash can fell to the ground with a loud thud. The trash spilled across the floor. She smiled, there was a half eaten sandwich and a bag of old fries sprawled among the trash. She munched on them while keeping an eye out for more food.

Bentley was walking around the perimeter of his building marking his territory as he also looked for food, he lifted his head and let his ears perk as he looked around, he watched a rabbit scurry across the broken road that had grass growing through it and he shifted his weight and ran after it, he caught his food for the night and hid it somewhere for later he finished his marking and settled down outside the door of the building watching just relaxing in the sun waiting for anyone else to show up or to meet anyone, he rested his head on his paws and sighed quietly his ears moving listening for any sound, the now 80 pound male was getting kind of lonely, he was used to noise from living close to a highway and the sound of people, but now all he got was silence and the occasional rat.

Bentley lifted his head at the sounds of claws against concrete, he twitched his nose and looked in the direction of the noise, he let out a friendly but warning bark, before he sat up, his ears perked in a friendly manner as he watched the male walk towards him "That's close enough" he spoke clearly in his naturally gruff voice, it could also be because he hadn't drank clean water in a month or so, from the size of the other male, Bentley knew it would be hard to win in a fight against him, so the Doberman was hoping that isn't what it would come to. Bentley has been losing weight from the lack of food and he knew he didn't have as much muscle as he use to.

Lucca pawed at an orange leaf that lay on the road. It fluttered into the air when he poked at it. Suddenly excited, Lucca made a quick play bow and pounced on the leaf. It fluttered into the air before his paws reached it. He yiped with joy and chased after it for a while, it fluttered here and there and he playful attacked it. His big paws tangled up before he could get in his last pounce. He tumbled over himself and landed on his chin. He sat up and shook his head, he spotted something in the corner of his eye that made him immediately forget about his tumble. 'Friends!' He thought to himself as he looked on at two fellow dogs. His tongue lolled out of his mouth as he bounded across the road to the dogs. One was laying down, Lucca awkwardly jumped over him, his big blundering paws not quite making it all the way over him. His big soft back paws awkwardly flopped over the bigger dog. His face stayed bright and over excited the whole time, his whole body wiggled with excitement. Then Lucca saw the other dog, A huge fluff ball in Lucca's eyes. He hopped over to him and weaved in between his front legs. He stopped in the middle of the two huge fluffy paws and looked up at the bigger dog's face. Lucca's tongue continued to loll out of his mouth as he panted from all the excitement.

Bentley watched the small pup in shock as hit jumped off him and ran towards Levi "Pup" He called out watching the dog confused "Where is your mother?" the Dobie asked watching the pup interact with Levi. The large black and tan had a soft spot for pups, they often reminded him of the small human that he lived with, he looked back at the pup and tilted his head "Why are you alone out here small pup?" he asked lifting himself up showing off his once large body "Have you eaten recently?" he asked shaking out his fur causing some of his last shedding to fall off, he licked his nose and looked back at Levi before looking at the pup again.

Lucca sniffed and licked his maw. “I don know where mama is, the river washed me away from dem,” he snorted, still cheerful, “they will come find me I sure,” at the mention of food Lucca suddenly noticed his growling belly, “I tried eating s’m grass yeterday, but it wadnt that good,” he mumbled before rolling over on his belly and rolling on the chilly road. He looked at the tall back dog upside down, his tongue lolled from his mouth.

Lex prowled along the road in his neighborhood. He had cleared at least all the houses on the left side of the cold-a-sac, but he had many houses left to explore. He hopped up a few steps to a house he had yet to check out. A dog door welcomed him, he sniffed the rim to make sure there was no dog still taking refuge in the house. 'Clear', he determined after a moment. He pushed his way through the door, and scanned the area. The house was well kept, but smelled of mold. He walked up to a near by counter and hopped up onto it. Sniffing around,he found nothing of interest. Gracefully leaping back down, the golden next went for the trash can, knocking it to the floor with a thud. He sniffed through the remains in the trash. To his surprise there was a whole chunk of steak that the humans had thrown out. 'Jackpot' He decided that this was all he needed for now and would possibly return to search for more later on. He quickly snatched it up and made his way for the door. Before he reached the dog door he spotted something in the corner of his eye. A bed, a bid soft clean dog bed. he looked on at it, he had always wanted a dog bed, he usually slept at the top of the stairs so he could watch the front door. The wood wasn't very comfortable, but he didn't really care up until now. 'why not? it won't do any harm?, he told himself. He trotted over to the fluffy bed and dropped his meat chunk inside of it. He grabbed the side and pulled on it. He dragged it to the dog door and struggled with it for a moment until it popped out the other side. He carried it all the way back to his house and up the stairs. He dropped it at the top and stared at it. It was the first time he was actually excited about something since the sickness took over. Something stirred in his chest, the feeling that maybe this life isn't hell. He smiled at the thought. He cheerfully grabbed up his chunk of meat and brought it to his stash.

Bentley laughed at the small pup and walked around the corner of the building, it took him a few minutes but he walked back with the grey rabbit, he dropped it close to the pup and laid back down in his spot licking his nose watching Levi making sure he wouldn't take the meat from the still growing pup, he rested his head on his paws, he had eaten a day or so ago so the rabbit wasn't a big give up, he licked his nose and watched the pup with a small smile gracing his face

Presley was walking down the street careful to avoid any glass or sharp rocks, he lifted his head and let out his high-pitched howl to see if any other dogs were around, he looked around the current neighborhood he was in, he was trying to get home to see if he could find his once home, but he wasn't so sure where he was, everything smelt like death, and he was getting kinda bored of being by himself, he let out the howl again as he walked towards an open front door, he stepped into the house and walked around smelling everything before he decided to jump onto the couch that let him see the front door and settled down
