It was a crowded cafe in LA, and Maia sat across the table from Zac, conversation on pause while they both ate. They had planned the night before to go out to breakfast the next morning, and Maia had decided it was time to do something about their relationship. When her plate had been cleared, she took a sip of coffee from the white mug in front of her and rubbed her hand on her whitewashed jeans, waiting for Zac to be finished so she could finally talk. Him almost done, Maia sat up straighter in her chair and looked at him. "Zac? I need to talk to you about something, okay?" (sorry it is so shortXD) 0 players like this post! Like? |

Zac was honestly enjoying this silence he was sharing with Maia. Except... it wasn't really silent. The cafe was crowded, so he kept asking himself why he thought he was enjoying the silence, because there wasn't any silence. He was pondering his predicament when he noticed that Maia was finished with her breakfast, so he quickly finished his in case she decided she wanted to do something else and not be waiting on him. He frowned slightly when she sat up, and he set his fork down and clasped his hands in front of him, "What's wrong, Maia?" 0 players like this post! Like? |

Maia watched with as Zac set down his fork, looking at her and ready for conversation, "What's wrong Maia?" She thought of her words carefully, and folded her arms on the edge of the table. "Well, we have been together for almost a year. And I have had a great time being with you. But I am beginning to be worried about you, and I," she paused for a second, trying to say this correctly. "I don't think it is really working. So, it may be best if we didn't see each other any more." 0 players like this post! Like? |

Zac removed his hands from the table, and began to finger his fork anxiously. Maia was acting strange, her posture--her arms on the table--were making him think something was wrong, and he bit the inside of his lip as he waited for her to speak. A feeling of dread began to bloom in his stomach, and he gripped the fork tightly in his hand as he tried to come to terms with what Maia was saying. So it wasn't her, it was him. It always was; like she had never done anything wrong, nope, it was always his fault. He lifted his head to look at her, and shook his head, "So you're dumping me. Great." 0 players like this post! Maia looked at him as he lifted his head, "I'm sorry to say, but yes. I wish it could have worked out, and I did try. But we just don't work. You can get really angry sometimes, and I just can't do it anymore." She wished she could stay, maybe help him get over his problems, but Maia was afraid he would get worse before he got better. She itched her arm, and looked to see if any waiters were around. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Zac clenched his jaw when she began to speak. So he was right, after all. It was always him. He didn't think about how a lot of his previous girlfriends had told him the exact same thing, and he just glared at Maia through a wall of white-hot rage. After a moment he stood angrily, and stormed out of the cafe, leaving her to pay for their breakfast. He would get her back. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Maia watched Zac carefully, his jaw clenched as he gave her death glare. Most guys didn't get this angry over a breakup, and this was just proving her point. Even more so when he got to his feet, nearly knocking the chair over in the process and left the cafe. Sighing in relief that she had gotten it over with, Maia flagged down a waitress and paid for the food. Once the waitress came back with the receipt, she got to her feet, grabbing her bag and and stuffing her phone inside. She got outside, the warm fresh air against her skin, she began making her way to her friend April's apartment. She had been telling April that she was thinking of breaking up with Zac, and she had wholeheartedly agreed. Zac would get mad at her for the silliest things, even when they were with other people. Finally arriving at the correct building, Maia went inside and took the elevator to the second floor and went to April's door. She knocked, and after a few moments she heard some footsteps and the unlocking of the door. April appeared, and Maia shrugged her shoulders in greeting. "Well, it's done." 0 players like this post! Zac was furious. He just could not get over the fact that Maia broke up with him because of his attitude. Isn't that why somebody picked a girlfriend, was so that she could help him change for the better? Obviously not, because even though he had been trying, she wouldn't even stick with him long enough for him to actually change! He growled in the back of his throat as he stormed down the sidewalk, and he stopped in an alley to think of ways to make sure she didn't hurt anyone else the way she hurt him. He bit his fingernails, then his gaze landed on the library across the street. He frowned, then walked inside, wondering if they had any books on this sort of subject. The catalog yielded no results, but a title on the shelf near him caught his eye. The book was old, and made up of a sort of leather that reminded Zac of human skin. He shuddered, then shook his head. There was no way that was possible. It wouldn't be in the library otherwise. He picked it up, and gently thumbed through the pages. As he read, a smile began to grow on his face, and he snapped the book shut as he looked to the checkout register. This book was perfect. 0 players like this post! Like? |

April ushered Maia in after she had heard the news, and they went to sit on the red couch in the living room. "So you finally decided to ditch the crazy guy? I thought you would never leave him, no offence to you. What made you decide to do it?" Maia shrugged once again, "We had made plans to have breakfast this morning, so I guess I just thought it was finally time to break it off." She had been a little nervous, but it wasn't her nature to let someone be around her that could potentially turn abusive, and it was a little scary that Zac had that potential. Maia was thinking about where Zac had run off to. He was probably at his apartment breaking things for all she knew. April looked at her, and Maia snapped out of her thoughts. "So," clearing her throat, she looked to April. "I don't really want to think about this. I am just glad I am out." April nodded inunderstanding. "I get what you mean. Do you want to go out? Or do you just want to stay in and Netflix with me?" "Let's go out, maybe we could shop a little, or go to the movies. Which, I guess is sort of Netflix. We could do both." 0 players like this post! Zac cut the line to get in the first spot, which earned some grumblings which were all quickly silenced with one of his glares. He checked out the book, which earned a strange look from the librarian, but she quickly returned to what she was doing so as not to antagonize him anymore. Everyone else noticed how angry and jerky his actions were, and they were all wise enough to leave him alone. However, Zac himself had no knowledge of how he was acting. He was just stroking the cover of the book, hatching plans in his mind. He quickly hurried home--his apartment was not very far away from the library. Strange, he thought, that I've never noticed it before. He was lucky he found it now, however; this book was going to change his life. And Maia's. Definitely hers. Zac opened the book, flipping to a certain page and trailing his fingers over the lines of words as he read the instructions. He followed them down to the letter, setting up the spare room he had in his apartment for what he had planned. He then sat down in front of the ring of salt he had laid on the ground, which surrounded a devil's trap--one could never be too cautious--and he began to read from the book, almost whispering the strange words in a chant. 0 players like this post! April looked at the clock on her phone, and seemed to gather her thoughts before speaking. "Alright. Let's go to a few stores and shop for a while then we can het lunch. Afterwards, we can come back and bingewatch a show. I will even watch Supernatural with you if you want." April smiled, and set her phone back on her lap. Maia thought all of this sounded perfect. Go do stuff with her friend, look at things she won't be able to buy. "Sounds like the perfect plan!" She laughed when April mentioned Supernatural, and nodded. "That would be awesome, because I know how much you love that show..." They both got to their feet, and April went to get changed out of her pajamas while Maia stood at the island of the kitchen, and opened her phone. He hadn't texted her which was either a good sign, or a vefy bad one. But, wanting to be fully rid of him, Maia went to her contacts and deleted his number. 0 players like this post! Like? |

As Zac continued to chant, he wasn't able to look up and see what was happening, because then he would mess up and all of his hard work would go out the window. But he could feel the change in the air, almost as if it was... furious. At him. He shivered, and his voice began to tremble slightly, but he pushed forward, forcing himself to not look up, to not see the thing that was surely materializing in front of him. He was finishing up the last few lines, and as he did so the necklace he had prepared began to rattle in a peculiar way. It was a simple silver cross attached to a black leather cord, nothing completely special, but it had been enchanted to bind this particular demon to this plane of the universe, and make sure he followed his instructions. Follow Maia, report back to Zac each day on her whereabouts, what she had done, all sorts of things... The necklace shook more, and it slowly began to slide across the ground towards the Devil's Trap. It disappeared from his gaze as he read the last words of the spell, and Zac slowly looked up, afraid at what he might see. He was shocked at what was sitting in the symbol on the ground, and Arunasura was thoroughly annoyed by this whole situation. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Almost as soon as she had pressed delete, Maia sighed and heard steps coming from April's room. Turning, Maia stood up straight and looked to April, who who had grabbed her bag and was pulling on her other shoe. "You ready to go, Maia?" "Yeah, let's go." Looking at her phone screen one last time, she stuffed it in her bag and both her and April began walking toward the door. Once outside the door, April locked it and they linked arms, heading towards the elevator. Maia zoned out for a second, looking at the shiny metal surface of the door, and she turned her head to April. "I deleted his number while you were getting dressed. I didn't want it in my phone any more." April looked to Maia, and smiled. "That's good, it didn't deserve the space it took up in your phone anyway. Now what store do you want to? Or would you rather go to the mall?" Maia thought for a second, tilting her head. "Well, I think the mall sounds good. Many stores, and food too. Many birds, one stone." The elevator dinged, and they walked out into the lobby, the checkin clerk waving to them as they reached the doors to outside. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Zac wasn’t quite sure what happened. He was sure he had done something wrong--the person sitting cross-legged in front of surely could not be the demon Arunasura. If he was, he didn’t look very… demonic. He was expecting the stereotype, if he was being honest with himself, but this blond-haired man that didn’t look older than twenty was sort of stretching his limits. The demon glared at him for a few more moments, then slowly began to shake his head and said, rather blandly, and with a strange accent, “You humans and your petty conflicts.” And then he was gone, leaving Zac sitting there thoroughly confused. Arunasura appeared behind a tall building, not really sure where. He glanced down at himself, noting his attire, and he slid in the backdoor of the building, trying to get into a position to where he could find this… Maia. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Maia and April went outside, and began walking down the side of the street, looking at the different storefronts. Maia looked to April and asked, "How is Caleb? Is he still in Nevada visiting his parents?" Nodding, April adjusted her bag on her shoulder. "Yes, he extended his trip a week or two because his sister ended up being able to come." Caleb was April's boyfriend who lived with her, they had been friends almost all through school, and Maia had known that April and Caleb had liked each other. "So where do you think we should go first when we get to the mall? I was thinking maybe we could go to Hot Topic or Gap, my jeans are wearing out." 0 players like this post! Like? |
